Even if they weren't sure whether Hong Xiaoduo could drink alcohol, Fan Wu and Murong Jing thought that it wouldn't matter if she didn't have a high alcohol tolerance, since they were there to stop her if things got out of hand.
The wine was served, six different bottles in a row. Hong Xiaoduo poured a little of each to taste.
Those who could see her face forgot about their own food and drink and watched her sample each wine. Her expression changed with each sip: a smack of the tongue, a sigh, a frown, a disgusted grin, a deep sniff, a raised eyebrow.
"Huh? This one smells nice, but it doesn't taste good. This one is the only one that's not bad, it's sweet." After tasting all six pots of wine, this was finally the last one.
"Young lady, this pot is mead, made from rice wine, spirits, and honey," said the waiter who had been waiting on the side.
Hong Xiaoduo nodded and reached out to take the last pot of wine.
Murong Jing kept two jars, and had the waiter take the rest away.
Hong Xiaoduo chose her favorite wine, and Murong Jingfan and the others finally realized that she was not good at drinking.
"Xiaoduo, this mead is sweet, but it's very potent. You should drink less," Fan Wu said with some concern as he watched her down a cup in two gulps.
Hong Xiaoduo nodded in agreement, picked up her chopsticks and first put a chicken leg on Yao Guang's plate, then poured herself a glass of wine. The wine was sweet, delicate and mellow, and after a while, it was soft and long-lasting. The rich sweetness permeated her mouth, and the taste was excellent. The more she drank, the more she wanted to drink.
Fan Wu looked worried, but then thought that the pot wasn't very big, so he decided to let it go. She was only drinking because she was happy, and if she got drunk, he could just carry her back and wait for her outside.
He was completely wrong. Hong Xiaoduo drank the wine because it had absolutely nothing to do with her emotions; she simply drank it because it was sweet and delicious, like a beverage.
A pot of wine couldn't withstand her drinking like that; it was empty in no time. She shook the empty pot in disbelief. "Just this little bit? Gone so quickly? I don't think I poured many cups myself. Or perhaps the waiter didn't fill it up properly in the first place?"
Fan Wu quickly looked at the sweet and sour fish, picked up a piece, and carefully removed the fish bones for Yao Guang.
Murong Jing also carefully examined the wine cup in his hand, admiring the picture of the bamboo forest on it.
After putting down the empty wine pot, Hong Xiaoduo thought for a moment but ultimately didn't ask for another pot. It wasn't because she was embarrassed, and besides, she hadn't even considered maintaining a virtuous lady persona in front of others. It was just that she remembered Brother Fan's reminder that this wine had a strong aftereffect.
Drinking too much around them won't be dangerous, but what if you say something you shouldn't?
Eat a piece of beef to replenish protein, and also eat vegetables. You need to stay healthy so that you don't get sick and have your children take care of you instead!
"Xiao Duo, have some fish, this fish is cooked very well," Fan Wu called out.
Murong Jing also pushed the large bowl containing braised beef towards her.
Heaven knows what those two young men, who were not afraid of death, felt when they were afraid that a young woman would ask for another pot of wine, and they didn't know how to deal with it!
I don't know why, but I just don't want her to drink anymore.
However, as a man, and the one hosting the banquet, it would be somewhat impolite of him not to ask the waiter to bring more wine when he clearly saw that she liked to drink the mead and knew that her wine jug was empty.
Although she also called Fan Wu "Brother Fan," and Murong Jing was several years older than her, she still couldn't speak to him like an older brother and say, "That's enough, stop drinking."
Fortunately, she didn't ask for any more drinks, and the two of them both breathed a sigh of relief. At the same time, they felt that their reaction was both unbelievable and quite funny!
Half an hour later, outside the restaurant, even though Murong Jing and his men had no other plans for the day, they did not continue to stroll around with Hong Xiaoduo and the others.
Fan Wu told the children that there was a shadow puppet show on the other side of town, and he would take them there to see it later.
Hong Xiaoduo was talking to Murong Jing and his entourage, inviting her and the seven children to breakfast and lunch, and helping to take care of them. They were so happy and he even paid for the carriage, so they couldn't just eat and leave.
"It's quite nice that Miss Hong is like this. She has nothing to do and can go wherever she wants, living a carefree life," Murong Jing joked.
After hearing this, Hong Xiaoduo glanced at him and said, "Who said I don't have anything to do?"
"Oh? What is it that you would like to tell me? Is there anything I can help you with?" Murong Jing asked as soon as he heard the question.
But she shook her head and sighed, saying, "The specifics are still uncertain. So, Young Master Murong, please don't be envious. I'm just enjoying my carefree life right now."
"From what you're saying, it was out of necessity, against your will? Were you coerced?" Murong Jing's smile vanished.
Hong Xiaoduo thought for a moment and smiled bitterly, "It's also my fault, I was careless." Otherwise, how could I not have noticed the unusual behavior of the science museum staff and the old curator!
"Who is the other party? If Miss Hong trusts me, could you tell me? I, along with your Brother Fan, should be able to help you resolve this," Murong Jing asked, frowning.
Hearing him say that, Hong Xiaoduo smiled and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Young Master Murong, but we will settle accounts with that person properly in the future."
She had already decided that once the matter was settled and she returned home, no matter how generous the old man's financial compensation or how sincere his apology, she would not easily compromise.
Why wouldn't they say who the other person was? Yet they looked so certain. Murong Jing was curious, but he couldn't press them for an answer.
"Oh, right, you can't tell him about what we just talked about," Hong Xiaoduo suddenly remembered and reminded him.
