Chapter 79 I'll have company tonight

When Hong Xiaoduo got off the carriage, all seven children had finished eating, and Tian Shu followed her back to sit on the cushion.

The seven children could tell that she wasn't in a good mood.

"Mother, eat something." Yao Guang received a hint from her older brothers and sisters and pushed the food towards her.

Hong Xiaoduo reached out and pulled her onto her lap, straightening her cloth hat. In just a few days, stubble had grown out and was a bit prickly to the touch.

Her little body was still thin; when I touched the tip of her nose, it felt a little cool.

The old man at the science museum said that although this dynasty cannot be found in modern history books, it did actually exist.

The initial scene she witnessed of the villain abusing the seven children was not a fictional plot created by the system; it was a real event. These seven children were also real.

"Are you full? What did you eat?" Looking into Yao Guang's innocent eyes, the irritation and annoyance that had been building up in the space gradually dissipated.

"I'm full. I ate a piece of jujube cake, a sesame seed cake, and a piece of dried meat," Yao Guang told Hong Xiaoduo, counting on her fingers.

Hong Xiaoduo noticed the worried expressions on the faces of her other children and knew that she had frightened them when she got off the carriage.

"Let's go pick some flowers. We'll set off after I've eaten my fill." She put Yaoguang down, reached for a rice cake, and started eating.

Suddenly, I saw Tian Shu scratching his forehead. "Tian Shu, what are you doing? You can't scratch a scab. It'll leave a scar if you scratch it." It was the scab that the wicked man had smashed with a wine pot that day, and it had finally scabbed over.

"I'm a man, so a few scars shouldn't matter, right?" Tian Shu, who would usually obediently agree, said something rather unusual today.

Hong Xiaoduo knew he was deliberately trying to get her to talk more, so she went along with it and said, "Having a scar isn't a big deal. It won't affect your eating or sleeping. But it might affect your ability to get married in the future."

Hong Xiaoduo's words made the other six children cover their mouths and laugh. Tian Shujun's face turned bright red with embarrassment, and he turned and ran away towards the carriage.

No one saw the smile on his face when he turned around. He was certain that whether the person who teased him was in a good mood or a bad mood, it was the same for them.

A moment later, they set off again, and Hong Xiaoduo taught the children to recite "Ode to the Goose" in the carriage.

As evening fell, Hong Xiaoduo looked out the car window, searching for a place to camp. The map showed that there weren't even any villages along this stretch of road.

Tian Shu, who was rushing to catch the carriage, told her that there were pedestrians preparing to camp not far ahead, so Hong Xiaoduo asked the carriage to stop and got out to take a look.

"They must be escorting goods," Tian Shu told him.

It's not dark yet, but at this distance, we can't see what's written on the flag on the caravan.

Hong Xiaoduo surveyed the surroundings and saw a small river by the roadside, which seemed suitable for camping.

"Let's rest here tonight," Hong Xiaoduo said.

The children got off the carriage and asked her for advice on where to set up their tents.

The tent has been bought but never used yet, and the children are very excited as they carry things around.

The bodyguards, who were setting up tents not far away, also saw the two carriages, one large and one small, that had just stopped. They weren't curious about who these people were, but looking at the people getting off the carriages, they all seemed to be children.

There was only one who was slightly taller, and judging from her figure, she looked like a young woman!

"Third Senior Brother, what are you looking at?" A girl dressed in a tight-fitting outfit walked out of a tent that had already been set up and asked curiously.

"You'll have company tonight." The man in dark blue gestured for her to look over.

The young woman glanced at her and said with some disdain, "They're quite shrewd, knowing that being near our escort agency is safe."

Although the man in dark blue disagreed with the girl's words, he said nothing and continued to inspect the wheels of the caravan.

"Dazhi, if they come over to try and get close to you, or ask for anything, don't be soft-hearted and agree," the girl instructed one of them.

The bodyguard named Dazhi immediately replied, "Yes, Second Madam."

After the girl walked away a bit, the other whispered, "Master always says, when you're out and about, helping others is helping yourself too."

"Shh, Pingzi, you'd better watch your step. Don't let Second Madam hear these words," Dazhi whispered a reminder.

Before long, they saw a large tent set up not far away, and watched several busy figures feeding the livestock, carrying water, and gathering firewood to start a fire.

They showed no intention of coming over at all, yet the second daughter-in-law was actually worried that they would try to get close to her or ask for something. How ridiculous!

On the other side, Hong Xiaoduo checked the sturdiness of the ropes and spikes around the tent before entering it.

Moisture-proof tarpaulins have been laid on the ground on both sides inside, and bedding rolls have been placed on top.

In the center of the tent was a small, foldable table, surrounded by eight equally foldable small stools. Looking closely, I couldn't help but feel glad I'd bought a large enough tent.

Yuheng and the others had already taken out the dried rations and meat and were roasting them over the fire.

Tian Shu added water to the pot and took two eggs he had bought in town before setting off, preparing to make a pot of egg drop soup.

Hong Xiaoduo, who had just come out of the tent, saw Tian Shu crack an egg into the boiling water, stir it a few times with a long spoon, then pinch in a pinch of salt, stir it again, and then call Yu Heng to ladle soup into a bowl.

"Is the soup ready?" Hong Xiaoduo couldn't help but ask.

Tian Shu, who was making the soup, and Yu Heng, who was serving it, both nodded.

Seeing their firm response, Hong Xiaoduo didn't say anything more and helped carry two bowls of soup into the tent. She thought to herself, since she can't cook, she shouldn't give orders; she should be content with what's readily available.

The soup was served, and the hot dry food and jerky were ready to eat. The adults and seven children sat around the small long table and began to eat dinner.

The first person to drink the soup said it seemed a bit bland, so Tian Shu immediately added some salt to each bowl. When the amount wasn't quite right, some said it was a bit too salty, so Tian Quan went out and fetched a kettle of boiled water, then came back in and added water to the bowls of soup that were too salty.

Hong Xiaoduo sipped her bland, oil-free egg drop soup, watching the children eating and drinking with relish, and felt a mix of emotions.

Some people in modern times have become picky eaters. If they find something they don't like, they simply refuse it and throw it away!

About 15 minutes later, the children, who looked very satisfied with their meal, busied themselves clearing away the dishes and washing them.

"Go inside and get some rest." After they had all tidied up and washed up briefly, Hong Xiaoduo ushered them into the tent.

Tian Shu looked at her hesitantly: "Aren't you going to sleep?"

Hong Xiaoduo pointed to the recliner outside the tent: "I can lie down here. I can catch up on sleep in the carriage tomorrow. Don't worry, I won't abandon you and run away."

"I don't think that way anymore." Tian Shu blurted out, then looked at the teasing smile on her face and realized that she was just teasing him. He fled into the tent as if he were escaping.

Hong Xiaoduo untied her whip and sword and placed them on either side of her body. She lay down on the chair, looked up at the stars in the night sky, and thought that tonight should be peaceful...
