Hong Xiaoduo didn't immediately confirm, but instead took a look at what the waiter said.
The window seat was quite far from the tables on either side.
The cubicle the waiter mentioned was actually a semi-open cubicle separated by openwork wood carvings.
After thinking about it, I decided to take a seat by the window for better ventilation. Although there were diners drinking at the tables on both sides, they all seemed quite refined.
After the waiter who greeted the guests left, another waiter came over to ask if we wanted to order.
"I heard that your restaurant's number one specialty is roast duck. Do you still have any?" Hong Xiaoduo asked before the other party could introduce her.
The waiter laughed upon hearing this: "Young ladies, you've come at just the right time. There's only one left of the roasted duck that came out of the oven this noon."
"Really? That means we're in luck! Give us one!" Hong Xiaoduo said happily.
"Alright, young lady and young master, please wait a moment. I'll go tell the counter first, so that other customers won't order while we're taking our orders." After saying that, the waiter turned around and quickly went to the counter, told the person inside, and the person nodded.
The waiter returned: "Alright, you two are all set to enjoy your roasted duck. Now you can slowly order other dishes. With the duck, how about ordering a vegetable dish and a soup?"
This young lady and her seven- or eight-year-old son probably can't finish ordering too much.
The dish of roasted duck was invented by the chef of this restaurant. It is said that other restaurants have tried to make it, but none of them can replicate the taste of this restaurant.
This restaurant's roasted duck is in high demand every day, but they only make two batches a day, one at noon and one in the evening, with eighteen ducks in each batch. They don't accept reservations or orders from outside; you have to come to the restaurant to order.
There are no restrictions on other specialty dishes at the restaurant.
Hong Xiaoduo discussed it with Kaiyang and then ordered fish balls, pearl vegetables, salted magnolia petals, crab soup, and hot water pancakes as their staple food.
They also ordered some drinks and milk for Kaiyang. She hadn't originally planned to drink alcohol, but after hearing the waiter say that their restaurant's homemade pomegranate wine was good, she ordered a pot.
Before I could even take a few sips of tea, four dishes were served in succession.
“Let’s not rush, let’s eat slowly and continue shopping after we’re done. I just don’t know if that roasted duck is really that delicious,” Hong Xiaoduo said to Kaiyang while pouring herself a drink.
The pomegranate wine was poured into a white porcelain cup; it was a bright red and clear color, with a faint fruity aroma.
Hong Xiaoduo picked up the bowl, took a sip, and said to Kaiyang, "Look, our roast duck is here."
The two looked at the golden-brown roast duck on the tray that the waiter was carrying; it looked very appetizing even from this distance.
But what was that person asking the waiter? And the waiter kept shaking his head, looking towards Hong Xiaoduo and the others, and saying something to that person.
"What is that person going to do?" Kaiyang couldn't help but ask.
"I think they want to steal our roasted duck," Hong Xiaoduo said, expressing her guess, as she watched the waiter lead the man towards them.
"Young lady, this gentleman said that his master is entertaining distinguished guests today, but he was a little slow in taking orders. So, he would like you to give up this dish. What do you think?" the waiter said somewhat awkwardly.
The person who came with her didn't say a word, stood with his hands behind his back, and looked at Hong Xiaoduo with great arrogance.
Kaiyang also looked at Hong Xiaoduo, unsure if she would give way, after all, this was the capital, right under the emperor's nose...
