Yuanli's death

Yuanli's death

Si Xi tactfully sent his godmother and He Qi out, closed the door, and then asked the questions that were confusing him.

"Isn't it a good thing that you still have blood relatives alive? If things were that simple, you wouldn't have to worry so much. It's hard to say, just think of it as a time to calm down behind closed doors."

After saying that, Si Xi pulled out a few exquisitely wrapped sugar balls from her waist pouch and placed them in front of him. "He Qi said that sweet things make people feel good. His sister told her that, and I think it has some value. I made these myself, and they're just as delicious as the ones He Qi bought. I'm giving them all to you."

Yan Ye raised his dejected head, his gaze sweeping from Tangqiu to Si Xi's face. With extreme anxiety and worry, he asked, "Bingbing, will I end up losing you too... and become the orphan I was back then, with nothing?"

"Yan Ye, what nonsense are you talking about? We will always be each other's most reliable family. No matter what happens, this will never change. Is it because He Qi and I are too close that you are unhappy? I didn't understand it before, so I said so many easy-going words. Now, I understand a little bit, and I apologize to you. If I were you, I would definitely be unhappy too."

Si Xi's words couldn't keep up with his thoughts for a moment. He felt that no matter what he said, his words didn't express what he meant, and his brows couldn't help but frown.

He shook his head and told Si Xi about his past, which he had buried deep in his heart and avoided talking about.

After explaining the whole story, he said, "Just now, the Demon Lord took me out to do some work. I went to see my godfather. My godfather drew the Yan clan totem and asked me if it was the real Yan clan totem. I saw it, and it was indeed authentic, even the details were very real. After confirming it, my godfather brought a woman. The woman's blood was dripped on the household registration book, and the household registration revealed that it was my aunt. When I found out, I was both happy and sad. I was happy that there was still a blood relative alive, but I was sad that my aunt should have been executed that year, and her escape was an even greater crime. She was doomed to die. Although I have no contact with my aunt, she is also my mother's sister. Losing a relative again is like seeing a small boat while floating on the endless river. When I look closely, I find that the boat is broken and sinking to the bottom is the inevitable outcome."

"You and I don't know the truth of what happened back then, but your aunt was sentenced. She must have violated the laws of the demon world. Her death was deserved, and we can't change it."

"I know that the Yan family deserved what they got to that point, and my aunt deserved to pay the price. I also hate those followers of Xie Yuan with my heart. I'm sad not because I can't change my aunt's fate, but..."

Having said that, Yan Ye paused.

Even though he had already told Si Xi about his past, he still seemed unaccustomed to saying such things to Si Xi. In his own opinion, for a grown man to say such things seemed to sound somewhat hypocritical and fragile.

Si Xi patted his shoulder gently, signaling that he didn't need to explain any more. "I understand. Yan Ye, you will never be alone again. In my heart, you and I have long been a family as important as blood relatives. Do you remember the promise we made together when we were young?"

"Nothing and no one can separate you and me."

"Nothing and no one can separate you and me."

Si Xi quietly accompanied Yan Ye, listening to him talk about his vulnerability that he tried his best to hide but was full of loopholes. Until he calmed down and once again reassured that nothing could separate them, they opened the door.

It was already getting late, and the inn's dining hall on the first floor was bustling again. Shortly after the door opened, Yuanli beckoned them upstairs for dinner. Si Xi stared at the table of delicious food, still barely realizing what time it was; lunch looked like it had just been eaten.

"What's wrong, Bingbing? Is there no dish you like?" Yuanli asked.

"No, it just feels like I just finished lunch and then had dinner again. Time flies."

Yuanli picked up a piece of meat and put it in the pancake bowl. "Even if you're not hungry yet, you still have to eat more. After you finish eating, you can go back to the Demon Realm first. We have other things to do tonight and can't take care of you."

"We've only been here for one afternoon, and we're already parting ways with our godmother?" Bingbing was filled with reluctance. After a moment of dejection, he asked again, "Can't you take me with you? I've been practicing with my uncle and making great progress lately. I can protect my godmother well. Can I come with you?"

"No, it's too dangerous."

Bingbing grabbed Yuanli's sleeve and shook it again and again, trying his best to act coquettishly to his godmother, begging her to let him stay, but his godmother just didn't agree. Sixi had no choice but to look at Heqi for help.

"Why are you looking at me? I have to listen to my sister too. I dare not disobey her." He Qi said.

Si Xi, frustrated, held her bowl, sipping the rice in small sips, eating slowly. It seemed as if she could stay with her godmother longer if she could only eat a little longer. Everyone put down their bowls and chopsticks, and Si Xi's bowl of rice was empty, and she was full, but she still chewed the dish in front of her.

Yuanli saw through her trick and retreated softly, saying, "It's getting late. We should go out first. You can eat slowly and you are not allowed to leave the inn. Heqi, send someone to watch them."

"Okay, okay, I will definitely listen to my godmother and wait for her to come back in the inn. I will never run around." Si Xi was overjoyed. He immediately put down his bowl and chopsticks, and obediently sent Yuanli out. He told her to be careful and wait for her to come back, then he would tell her about the interesting things that happened in the Demon Realm.

The moon was beautiful tonight, its light bathing the ground. Looking up, one could see countless twinkling stars. Yuanli and her group split into three groups. Heqi and Lanxu were tasked with tracking Changmei's signal, while Hengjin and Tianshu were tasked with tracking down the remaining Xieyuan followers within the town. As mortals, Yuanli and Cha Suxun couldn't offer much help, so they could only blend in with the crowd, exposing themselves to the demons and evil spirits of Dishui Town, hoping to lure out the town's lord.

Dishui Town was not as prosperous as the imperial capital, and with the murder, not many people went out. There were only a few vendors on the main street where the inn was located, so two outsiders wandering around at night would more easily attract attention.

The two of them strolled to the end of the street. The road ahead grew increasingly deserted, with few people around. The shadows of the houses covered most of the street, leaving only a corner illuminated by the moonlight. A figure in a black cloak stepped out of the darkness. Judging by his figure and the style of his cloak, Yuanli felt that he looked very familiar, yet somehow different.

He just stood there motionless, slightly turning sideways to look in their direction.

Yuanli approached Cha Suxun and whispered, "I feel like the man in black across from me is somewhat similar to the man in black who cast a spell to take over my body. I want to go over and see what he's up to."

Cha Suxun clenched Yuanli's hand, and a bad feeling of panic crept into his heart.

The man in black didn't move until he was within three meters of him. Instead, his steps became increasingly uncontrollable, and he walked towards him as if possessed by some unknown force. The moonlight shone on him, but his face was unclear.

To be more precise, it was pitch black under the cloak, as if it was so empty that it looked like it had no head.

As they approached, the figure in black gradually turned toward them, facing them directly. The moment he opened his arms, the world turned upside down, and in an instant, they seemed to have entered the reflection of the water. The ground beneath their feet became a dividing line, separating them from the mortal world. All around them was black and white, and only they, the two of them, had color.

Yuanli looked down at her feet. Another Yuanli stood next to her, her soles touching. The surroundings and hers were all colored. She tried to sense the other Yuanli in her heart, but she couldn't. It felt like they had separated from their original bodies, becoming separate entities.

Yuanli, who was standing at her feet, was also shocked and puzzled. A peddler carrying a heavy load of goods was walking straight towards her. He didn't seem to want to stop until he bumped into her. Yuanli dodged and avoided being hit. A piece of green fruit rolled out of the basket and stopped at her feet. The peddler stopped and turned back to pick up the fruit. Yuanli also leaned over to pick up the fruit. The moment their hands touched, Yuanli's hand went straight through the peddler's hand holding the green fruit. One of the two must be a ghost. In the moonlight, she had no shadow, which meant that she was the ghost.

Cha Suxun hurriedly pulled up Yuanli's hand and took her pulse. After confirming that she was still alive, Cha Suxun felt relieved.

The man in black glanced down at his feet, then unleashed his killing move without hesitation. He used no magic, instead stabbing at her with a wooden sword in his hand. Cha Suxun and Yuanli couldn't use any magic here, and were even more powerless than in the human world, unable to do anything but dodge. He leaped up with a single leap and delivered a powerful kick to Cha Suxun's back, sending him flying and tumbling to the ground. Blood flowed from the corner of his mouth.

He covered his chest in pain, looked at Yuanli who was running away at his feet, and fear crawled all over his body.

Seeing him fall, the man in black rushed to Yuanli again, swinging his sword to separate her from Cha Suxun. Yuanli hadn't run a few steps when the man in black's wooden sword pierced her chest. The moment Yuanli fell, the man in black put away the wooden sword and cast a spell to return to the original human world.

They all saw clearly that the wooden sword, as it was withdrawn, completely pierced through Yuanli's chest and then turned back into its original silver form. Yuanli didn't know what it was, but Cha Suxun knew it was the Soul Devouring Pestle.

Cha Suxun struggled to crawl towards her body, which lay in a pool of blood, chanting a mantra to liberate the soul, tears streaming uncontrollably. Her spirit left her body, and she slowly sat up. The moment her fingertips began to dissipate like dust, they both understood what this meant.

Yuanli immediately came to his side, and her fingers penetrated his tears and touched his face. When her fingers passed through his cheek and could no longer touch his warmth, Yuanli completely understood that she would soon die.
