Chapter 147 Being Followed (2/2)

He wasn't wearing his official robes today, but rather a long robe the color of the sky after the rain. He walked along the street with his head slightly lowered, standing tall among the green bamboos in the rain, his expression somewhat solemn.

Shen Tangning had no intention of disturbing him, but she inadvertently caught sight of two suspicious-looking strangers following him.

A thought suddenly occurred to her, and she called out, "Lord Liu, please wait."

Shen Tangning's voice was not loud, but it was clear and gentle, and very recognizable. Liu Yifu was a little suspicious that it was his imagination. He looked up in surprise, and when he saw Shen Tangning, he realized that it was not his imagination.

He paused, stepped forward, and gave a slight bow: "It's been a long time."

Shen Tangning glanced at the two men, who were still lingering not far away. She frowned slightly, then smiled at Liu Yifu and said, "Where are you going, Lord Liu? I happen to have some free time, so I can give you a ride."

Liu Yifu instinctively felt it was inappropriate: "No need to trouble yourself..."

“No trouble at all.” Her tone was calm and unhurried, her eyes holding a meaningful look. “Lord Liu, there’s no need to refuse.”

Liu Yi pursed her lips, seemingly hesitant, and conceded, saying, "Thank you for your trouble."

Yuan Zhao was driving the carriage and was about to make way for him to get on when Liu Yifu raised his hand to stop him, lifted his robe and sat on the carriage shaft: "No need to trouble yourself, I'll sit here."

Shen Tangning is a woman, and it is inappropriate for him to be in the same room with her; he must avoid suspicion.

Seeing this, Shen Tangning did not stop him, but smiled silently: "Yuan Zhao, ask the master where he went."

Liu Yi replied, "Go to Qingyufang."

Shen Tangning paused, but didn't say much. Yuan Zhao drove the car in silence.

After driving some distance and confirming that the two people were not following, Shen Tangning whispered through the curtain, "Lord Liu, someone was following you just now."

Liu Yi turned to the side and glanced at the curtain, his brows furrowing slightly as he said in a deep voice, "I know, thank you for getting me out of that predicament."

Shen Tangning was somewhat surprised, and in the spirit of returning the favor, she asked, "Sir, have you offended anyone recently? Do you need any help?"

Liu Yifu had also helped her, and it was only natural to reciprocate.

"No need to trouble yourself, they won't dare to touch me for the time being." Liu Yifu politely declined, not wanting to involve her as well.

After he recounted the events in a low voice, Shen Tangning finally understood what had happened.

It turns out that a few days earlier, after Liu returned home from his shift, he discovered that someone had visited his home.

He has obsessive-compulsive disorder and insists that books and files be arranged in a neat and orderly manner. However, he discovered that the positions of several books had been moved.

Liu Yifu lives alone. His parents passed away a few years ago, and he has no siblings. He is all alone in the family and can be said to have no ties.

Because he had no worries about the consequences, he always relied on evidence and not people when handling cases, which offended some people.

He thought the other party would give up if they didn't find anything, but he didn't expect that the other party would dare to follow him in broad daylight.

Shen Tangning's eyes flickered slightly: "So the case that you've been investigating recently involves someone's interests and has been targeted."

So, it's not easy being in their line of work; one bad day and they could all die.

Liu Yi frowned, thinking that the case did not involve any secrets, so he said, "The case I've been investigating recently is nothing special. Someone reported that a large number of antique and cultural relics were being counterfeited, so I was ordered to investigate this counterfeiting case."

Shen Tangning suddenly froze: "Antiques and cultural relics are fake?"

Sensing something amiss in her tone, Liu asked in a low voice, "Is something wrong?"

She pulled herself out of her thoughts and gave a cryptic smile: "It's nothing, it's just that my father was tricked a few days ago and collected quite a few fakes."

“Then your father is most likely also a victim in this case.” Liu Yifu frowned and kindly reminded him, “Remember to have your father come to the Dali Temple to report the case later.”
