Shen Tangning sensed something was wrong and looked up suspiciously, only to meet Chi Yan's mischievous gaze. How could she not understand?
She was both amused and annoyed. She stood up, pursed her lips, clenched her handkerchief, and threw it in his face. Her eyes narrowed, and she asked in a half-smile, "Your wife is so domineering, why don't you divorce her?"
A handkerchief, faintly scented, slipped from his face. Chi Yan held it in his hand, then suddenly fell silent, blinked, and said dryly, "If I divorce you, where will I find such a smart and beautiful wife?"
Shen Tangning suddenly leaned down, gently lifting his chin with her fingers, her eyes brimming with tears, her breath sweet as orchids: "What do you think of me, my lord?"
He had teased her, and given her vengeful nature, she naturally wanted to retaliate. However, she had never made such a frivolous move before, and her ears had quietly turned red without her noticing.
But Chi Yan didn't realize when he had ever seen her in such a state. He was deeply shocked and stared wide-eyed in surprise: "This... allow me a moment to think about it."
Shen Tangning narrowed her eyes, snorted coldly, and pushed him away: "You really dare to dream that? Dream on!"
She tried to pull away, but her waist was suddenly grabbed, and she instinctively cried out in surprise.
A dizzying sensation spread before her eyes, and when Shen Tangning opened her eyes again, she was already in Chi Yan's arms. He looked down at her, his dark eyes holding a faint smile: "Teasing her and then running away, isn't that a bad idea?"
She tried to remain calm and break free from his embrace, but he held her even tighter: "Don't move."
Shen Tangning met his dark eyes and noticed that his voice was also a bit hoarse, so she inexplicably dared not move anymore.
Chi Yan leaned down, his aggressive aura suddenly close to hers. Her eyelashes trembled, and she instinctively lowered her eyes. Suddenly, she heard him muffledly say in her ear, "Can I hug you for a while?"
It even sounds somewhat pitiful.
Shen Tangning's heart softened, and before she could say anything, he gently embraced her, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"..."
This time, you've actually improved.
Seeing that he made no further move, her stiff body gradually relaxed, and she nestled in his arms, the sound of his deep, powerful heartbeat filling her ears.
It struck her heart again and again, dull and persistent.
Her eyes flickered, and she unconsciously clenched Chi Yan's sleeves until they were wrinkled.
"Tang Ning," he called her softly.
Shen Tangning snapped out of her reverie and responded softly, "What?"
Suddenly remembering that many people called her that, Chi Yan pursed her lips and, with a hidden ulterior motive, whispered a change of address: "...A-Ning, may I call you that from now on?"
Like a pebble thrown into a lake, it stirred ripples in her heart, creating a strange and wonderful feeling.
Shen Tangning's ears burned slightly, but her expression remained unchanged: "Okay."
Chi Yan tentatively asked, "A-Ning?"
"Um."
“A-Ning, A-Ning.”
"..."
Shen Tangning turned her head away, not wanting to pay him any attention.
Chi Yan raised his lazy eyebrows and eyes, lifted her face, and looked at her expectantly: "Why are you ignoring me?"
She could no longer bear it, so she raised her hand to cover his mouth and said calmly, "Stop talking."
He suddenly burst into a muffled laugh, his chest vibrating. Her ears turned bright red, and she couldn't understand what was so funny.
After laughing enough, Chi Yan slowly said in a lazy tone, "Huai Zhi, my courtesy name."
