Chapter 173 The Qi Royal Family (1/2)

Night falls.

Around the post station, a guard yawned: "Hey kid, are you drunk? Why are you peeing so much!"

The man chuckled softly, offered no rebuttal, and walked into the night with his head down.

Yan Jue stared at the person in front of her, her eyes gentle, but her tone disapproving: "You're too impulsive."

Jiang Zhijing smiled nonchalantly: "Since he dared to compete with me, I'll send him to meet the King of Hell. What's wrong with that?"

A naive cruelty flashed across her bright eyes. "They wanted to kill me. If it weren't for... I'd be dead by now!"

"My dear father, he's a master strategist, still trying to extract the last bit of value from me. I wonder if he's satisfied with this grand gift I've given him?"

Seeing her like this, Yan Jue felt a pang of pain in his heart, and his eyes darkened: "Then they truly deserve to die."

Jiang Zhijing glanced at him and smiled, "Sickly fellow, thank you for this time."

She knew that he had arranged for the assassination of the emperor.

Originally, they wanted to frame Jiang Heng, but they didn't expect Jiang Zhijing to be even more ruthless and kill him directly.

Yan Jue coughed lightly: "How long will you stay here?"

Jiang Zhijing blinked: "Yanjing is more fun than I imagined. There are many interesting people there, and I'd like to see what they're capable of."

Yan Jue's eyes darkened, and for some reason, she felt a vague displeasure.

Her gaze could only be fixed on him; everyone else was superfluous.

He suddenly changed the subject: "I'm sorry, I couldn't save your people."

In an instant, all emotions vanished from Jiang Zhijing's face.

After a long silence, her somewhat cool voice finally drifted through the night breeze: "That was her own choice."

——

Shen Tangning turned over, and Chi Yan's muffled voice came from beside her: "Can't sleep?"

She turned her head, her eyes filled with apology: "Did I wake you up?"

"No." He propped his head up, looking over with sleepy eyes, his voice low and hoarse. "What are you thinking about?"

Shen Tangning hesitated for a moment before speaking truthfully: "Seventh Princess."

Chi Yan raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable: "You're thinking about that princess so much you can't sleep at night, do you think I don't exist?"

She sensed something was off and couldn't help but glare at him: "What are you thinking? I just feel like something's not right, but I can't quite put my finger on it."

Seeing her frowning in deep thought, Chi Yan gently raised an eyebrow, a smile hidden in his eyes: "Tell me about it."

Shen Tangning frowned slightly: "Now we all think that the Seventh Princess is very suspicious, but I still can't figure out her motive for killing."

Chi Yan slowly spoke up: "Didn't she not want to marry into the country? Jiang Heng died in Daqing, and the two countries will definitely break off relations, so she doesn't need to marry into the country then."

“That reason seems plausible, but don’t you think the price we’d pay is too high?” she pondered. “If this isn’t handled properly, at best the relationship between the two countries will break down, and at worst, they’ll go to war. Can an unloved princess bear such a price?”

Shen Tangning's eyes flickered slightly, "Unless, this is exactly the situation she wants to see."

Hearing her say that, Chi Yan frowned: "Has she gone mad? She actually welcomes war between two countries?"

Shen Tangning's gaze shifted: "So, this princess has quite a grand ambition."

Perhaps they were thinking in the wrong direction from the very beginning.
