Chapter 2: He Gave Him a Father (1/2)

"Shen Tangning, you've gone mad!"

Chi Jingyu opened his eyes in surprise, quickly supporting Shen Xiwei. His clear eyes swept over her, dark and deep, as if a flame was burning in them. His tone was icy, "If you have a problem, come at me! What does this have to do with Xiwei?"

Shen Xiwei leaned softly into his arms, shaking her head with tears in her eyes. She swallowed and lowered her voice, saying, "Your Highness, it all started because of me. It's only right that my elder sister resents me."

"This was just an accident, what right does she have to blame you?" Chi Jingyu frowned, clearly displeased.

Upon hearing this, Chi Yan raised an eyebrow, never expecting that someone could be even more shameless than him!

Having read books really makes a difference; you can even turn black into white!

A hint of regret flashed in Chi Yan's eyes. Why wasn't he so thick-skinned?

Shen Tangning watched this scene with indifference, her heart unmoved.

It's always the same. Chi Jingyu is a gentleman, upright and never shows his emotions, but he loses his composure only when it comes to Shen Xiwei.

Married for decades, he never showed her any kindness, but he was gentle and considerate towards Shen Xiwei in ways she had never seen before.

New clothes were made in the mansion, and Shen Xiwei was the first to choose.

When the palace received a reward, Shen Xiwei was given the first choice.

She initially expressed some reservations and complained tactfully, but Chi Jingyu coldly rebuked her: "As the eldest sister and the Crown Prince's wife, how can you not even have this much tolerance?"

As the Crown Prince's consort, the future Lady of the Marquis must be gentle and virtuous, and as a wife, she must adhere to the three obediences and four virtues!

She was deceived by these outdated dogmas and became a fool who could be easily fooled!

Shen Tangning rubbed her wrist and slapped it cleanly!

"Smack!"

The room was deathly silent.

No one expected that she would actually lay a hand on Chi Jingyu. The red mark on his face was so clear, and the astonishment in his eyes was even more pronounced.

Chi Yan grimaced at the sight and couldn't help but touch his face.

Wasn't the eldest daughter of the Shen family supposed to be the epitome of a well-bred lady?

Wow, so fierce?

Thank goodness it wasn't his wife!

He hasn't yet realized the seriousness of the problem.

The faces of Marquis Ningyuan and his wife immediately darkened, and even Old Madam Chi's face fell. However, they were in the wrong after all, and although their lips moved, they couldn't utter a single word for a long time.

"Young Master! Sister, how could you hit the Young Master?"

Amid Shen Xiwei's exclamation, Chi Jingyu snapped out of his daze, his eyes gleaming with an impending storm. Before he could make a move, Shen Tangning decisively stepped back several paces.

The moment she turned her face away, everyone could clearly see a tear quickly rolling down her cheek.

She clenched her sleeves, stubbornly raised her chin, and said with a barely perceptible tremor in her voice, "Your Highness, after this slap, we will be even."

Yeah, right.

Since God gave her a second chance, she wouldn't be Shen if she didn't take revenge on that scoundrel!

Chi Jingyu was taken aback, but then he saw Shen Tangning curtsy to Old Madam Chi, her face full of suppressed anger: "I urge the Marquis and Old Madam to give the Shen family an explanation for today's events."

The Chi family members couldn't help but change color.

Shen Tangning was born into a noble family. She was the eldest daughter of Shen Chang, the Minister of Revenue. Her mother, Xie, came from a prominent family and was related to the Empress.

The Ministry of Revenue was in charge of money and grain, and no one wanted to antagonize it.

Whether for Shen Chang's sake or for the Empress's sake, we absolutely cannot offend the Shen family!

The Marquis of Ningyuan and his wife exchanged a glance and a look.

Lady Hou stood up, took Shen Tangning's hand affectionately, and looked as if she were speaking from the heart. Her eyes then reddened: "Tangning, Mother knows you've been wronged! No one feels good in this situation, but what's done is done. We can only try our best to make amends, can't we?"

She paused, her gaze sweeping over Shen Xiwei, who was leaning weakly against Chi Jingyu as if she had no bones. A hint of displeasure flashed in her eyes, and she quickly made a decision.
