Upon seeing Yan Jue, Liu Yi exchanged a glance with Chi Yan and then stepped forward to bow.
"Lord Liu, there's no need for such formalities." Yan Jue's gaze swept over the two of them, and she chuckled lightly. "I'll just borrow a few books and leave. You two don't need to stand on ceremony. Just do what you need to do. If you waste any time, it will be my fault."
Chi Yan didn't insist, but glanced at the stairs and suggested tactfully, "If there is any inconvenience, Your Highness can give us your instructions at any time."
Yan Jue smiled calmly, not taking it to heart: "It's alright, although my legs aren't very good, I can still walk a few steps."
Upon hearing this, Chi Yan said nothing more.
He and Liu Yi returned to the second floor, but still kept a sliver of their attention on the movements below.
Yan Jue was quiet by nature, and apart from the occasional sound of her wheelchair, she made no other noise.
Chi Yan came to the railing and looked down, and saw Yan Jue holding a book and carefully flipping through it, looking very focused.
His eyes held a deeper meaning. Their visit to the library was a spur-of-the-moment decision, but coincidentally, Yan Jue also came to borrow books today.
Chi Yan could hardly help but suspect that the Fourth Prince might have ulterior motives.
He glanced at it a few times and then looked away. Liu Yi came forward again and gave him an inquiring look.
The two arrived at a corner. Liu Yifu was about to speak when Chi Yan gestured for him to be quiet. He paused for a moment, then quickly understood and mouthed the words:
Do you suspect that the Fourth Prince has a problem?
Chi Yan nodded slightly.
A strange light flashed in Liu Yifu's eyes. The Fourth Prince had been frail and sickly since childhood and rarely appeared in public. Could he possibly have such abilities?
In the past, he might have had some doubts, but Liu Yifu had seen another example right in front of him, namely Jiang Zhijing.
In fact, these two people share a certain trait. Jiang Zhijing also appears to be weak, but in reality, she is no less capable than men in both literary and martial arts, and is even more outstanding than many men.
So why couldn't the seemingly frail and sickly fourth prince be the mastermind behind all of this?
There was a commotion coming from the stairs. Liu Yifu and Chi Yan exchanged a glance and quickly separated.
Yan Jue slowly climbed the stairs, holding onto the handrail. His movements were slow, and his legs seemed to sag as he walked. He was already panting heavily after just one flight of stairs.
That's far too weak for a grown man.
Upon seeing the two of them, he smiled and nodded, then slowly searched for the books he wanted while leaning against the bookshelf.
The three people were in the same space but did not disturb each other, and the atmosphere was extremely quiet for a moment.
Chi Yan's casual voice rang out: "What book is Your Highness looking for? I'm free right now anyway, so why don't I look for it for you?"
Yan Jue paused upon hearing this, then smiled and said, "If Lord Chi doesn't mind the trouble, that would be the best."
"No trouble at all." The wooden planks creaked as Chi Yan strode forward, a look of relief on his face. He leaned against the bookshelf beside him and bent down slightly. "Just consider it taking a break. Your Highness, please don't report me."
Meeting his ambiguous gaze, Yan Jue's eyelashes fluttered a few times, and she curved her lips into a smile: "Thank you for your hard work, Lord Chi."
He named several books and gave their approximate locations. Chi Yan listened attentively and followed his directions to the bookshelf labeled "Astronomy." He searched each row and, sure enough, found the book Yan Jue was looking for on the fourth row.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, reached out and took the book down, and said admiringly, "You even remember the location of each book so clearly, Your Highness has a good memory!"
