Chapter 243 A Great Gift (1/2)

Xueqing carried in a small box, about the size of a palm. Shen Tangning glanced at it curiously, but it looked unfamiliar and didn't seem to belong to her. So she casually asked, "What's inside this?"

Xueqing shook her head, her eyes showing a hint of doubt: "This servant doesn't know either. The gatekeeper just delivered it, saying that someone instructed him to give it to the young master. Miss, where would you like to put it?"

Chi Yan hasn't returned yet; he's busy searching for Feng Zhiwen's whereabouts. Even if he were to return, it would probably be dark by then.

Seeing that the box wasn't locked, Shen Tangning figured it wasn't anything important. After a moment's thought, she raised her hand and said, "Bring it here so I can take a look."

Xueqing stepped forward and handed the box to her as instructed. As she took it, she weighed it in her hand and found it to be quite light. She then asked Xueqing, "Did the person who delivered it ask the gatekeeper to leave any message?"

Generally speaking, the doorman wouldn't dare accept anything of unknown origin; if it were something valuable, he'd inevitably be accused of bribery.

But the box was very light, not like it contained any gold or silver treasures, and it was specifically given to Chi Yan by name, which is probably why the gatekeeper accepted it.

“I didn’t hear him say that, so I don’t think so.” Xueqing shook her head.

“That’s rather unusual,” Shen Tangning remarked thoughtfully.

Since it's a gift, you should at least include a message, or at the very least, introduce yourself.

Otherwise, how would Chi Yan know who sent it?

Her curiosity grew, and she slowly lifted the lid. When she was caught off guard by what was inside, she froze, her mind going completely blank!

A moment later, she slammed the box shut and threw it aside, taking a couple of difficult breaths.

Xueqing noticed her unusual expression and, out of curiosity, picked up the box and opened it.

"Don't look!" Shen Tangning tried to stop her with a grim expression, but it was too late.

Xueqing had already seen what was inside, and her face instantly drained of color. She screamed and threw the box away.

"ah!"

The box fell to the ground, and its contents rolled out—

Those were three bloody fingers!

Shen Tangning was quite frightened, let alone Xue Qing; the two of them looked increasingly grim!

Hearing the commotion, Yuan Zhao outside immediately rushed over alertly: "Master, what happened?"

Before Shen Tangning could even speak, he had already followed Xue Qing's horrified gaze and spotted the thing on the ground, his expression immediately changing!

Yuan Zhao leaned forward and took a look, his expression somewhat grim: "It's true."

It is definitely a human finger, not a prank.

The sinister intentions of the person behind sending this thing are self-evident!

Xueqing's face paled even more. She turned her face away from the object, her lips trembling, "Miss, who sent this thing? And whose body is it...?"

Shen Tangning's face suddenly darkened, and she calmly instructed, "The goods were just delivered not long ago, so the person can't have gone far. Yuan Zhao, go after them now, and you might be able to catch them."

Having received the instructions, Yuan Zhao didn't delay any longer and turned to leave.

She then looked at Xueqing, her lips slightly pursed: "Xueqing, go and tell Baliang to quickly call the young master back!"

Although Xueqing was still shaken, she quickly took action.
