Chapter 256 It Was Him (1/2)

Why didn't you tell me sooner about something so important?

Shen Tangning suddenly stood up, her brows furrowed tightly.

Feng Zhiwen opened his mouth, then stammered, "I...I just remembered."

Remembering that he was a patient, she took a deep breath and coaxed him gently, "Then tell me, what does he look like? What are his facial features?"

“Every time I saw him, he was standing in the shadows, and I could only make out his general outline…” He was lost in his memories, his expression tinged with hatred. “The man was a man, and judging from his voice, he shouldn’t have been older than thirty. He had a high nose bridge and a full midface…”

Shen Tangning's expression gradually became serious, and she glanced at him with a complicated look in her eyes:

This description is too general and has no reference value whatsoever.

Not wanting to discourage Feng Zhiwen, she turned to Xueqing and instructed her to prepare paper and pen.

Feng Zhiwen was taken aback for a moment, and subconsciously asked, "What are you doing?"

“Draw that person’s face,” she said succinctly.

"But I... I can't draw." He pursed his lips awkwardly, his voice becoming dry. He looked down at his hands, a hint of self-mockery in his eyes.

Before his finger was broken, his painting skills were already appalling, let alone now that he can't even hold a pen properly, how could he possibly make rapid progress...

He suddenly felt a bit dejected. He had thought he was finally making a difference, but it turned out he had been overthinking things.

“I’ll draw it.” Shen Tangning looked at him with some confusion, and patiently explained, “Just describe what you remember truthfully.”

Feng Zhiwen was taken aback, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, and hesitantly asked, "Is this alright?"

Wouldn't that be too much of a burden for her?

Human descriptions are, after all, subjective.

She didn't say anything, but went straight to the table and sat down.

Upon hearing this, Xueqing, who had presented the paper and pen, raised her chin with a touch of arrogance: "My young lady's painting skills are second to none in the entire capital of Yanjing!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Tangning gave her a reproachful look with a half-smile: "How come I didn't know I was that capable?"

Xueqing exaggerated a bit, but her painting skills were indeed passable, though she rarely used them.

With anticipation, Feng Zhiwen tried his best to recreate every detail from his memory: "I remember one scene where the man was sitting in the corner, a beam of light shone through the crack in the window, casting a half-light on his silhouette, and his eyes were dark and sharp..."

Shen Tangning frowned and pondered for a moment before slowly picking up her pen.

A blurry outline gradually appeared on the paper. She stopped writing and pushed the paper in front of Feng Zhiwen: "Look, does it look like him?"

The person in the painting has strong features; with just a few hasty strokes, his eyes reveal a fierce and malevolent aura.

He looked at it closely and frowned slightly: "It's generally correct, but I feel like something's missing."

Shen Tangning paused, but was not discouraged. She tore off another piece of paper and laid it in front of her: "Describe what you said before again."

Feng Zhiwen felt a little embarrassed. He felt that his description was wrong, and that it was already very good that she could draw like this with just a few words.

After restating the description, a sudden thought struck him: "I know what's wrong! His features should be softer, more deceptive, or at least definitely not ugly!"

Extremely deceptive?

Shen Tangning frowned slightly because Feng Zhiwen repeatedly mentioned that the other person's eyes were very gloomy and ruthless during his description. This might be somewhat influenced by his personal subjective opinion, and she subconsciously felt that the other person should have a fierce face.
