Chi Yan only brought a coachman with him, and the accident happened unexpectedly.
A group of people rushed up and surrounded his carriage, quickly making the area impassable, with the carriage unable to move forward or backward.
"Sir, the road is blocked, what should we do?"
The people outside immediately launched into a tirade of accusations:
"You corrupt official, if you have the guts, come out here instead of hiding like a coward!"
"Didn't you say it would rain? Where is the rain? You've ruined my business for days, you have to compensate me for my losses!"
"Come out, you corrupt official! If he doesn't come out, we'll smash him out!"
With such a clear division of labor and a well-defined purpose, it hardly seems like a spur-of-the-moment decision.
Chi Yan's expression turned cold.
Seeing the other party's aggressive demeanor, the driver's face drained of color: "Sir, how about I just ram the road open?"
But this will inevitably hurt the people, because a group of people are blocking the middle of the road.
"Don't hurt anyone!" Chi Yan hurriedly reminded him, his brows furrowing deeper. The other party had deliberately staged this scene in the street, probably to provoke him into taking action and escalating the conflict.
If someone is actually hurt, then the nature of the situation is different.
He quickly lifted the curtain, grabbed the driver by the back of his neck and pulled him into the carriage, trying to communicate with the people: "Everyone, please calm down and listen to me!"
"I said it would rain, so I wouldn't lie to everyone. It will only rain tomorrow, so please be patient..."
"Pah! That's clearly just an excuse, don't believe him!"
Chi Yan frowned, trying to spot the figure stirring up trouble in the crowd: "Everyone, please don't push. I believe you've all gathered here because you've been instigated. It's not too late to turn back now! If an accident happens during the pushing and shoving, wouldn't that be a greater loss than a gain?"
"Pah! This corrupt official is threatening us! Does he really think we're three-year-olds?"
With keen eyesight, Chi Yan finally spotted a malicious face. A shifty-eyed man was hiding behind the crowd, and it was he who had been stirring up trouble.
Chi Yan's eyes turned slightly cold, but he hadn't had time to make a move yet.
A cabbage stalk came flying at him. He caught it with lightning speed, retreated back into the carriage, and relaxed, saying, "Just a mere cabbage..."
Soon, something else was thrown in. He grabbed it casually, his hand covered in a sticky substance: "Just a few eggs."
The driver covered his nose and retreated to a corner, grumbling, "Sir, those are rotten eggs!"
A strong, foul odor hit them, and Chi Yan's face stiffened. He quickly threw the eggs away, and the indescribable smell instantly spread throughout the carriage.
Ignoring the driver's accusing gaze, he casually wiped his hands on the man's robe: "I took the blame for you, so it's not unreasonable for me to accept a little reward, is it?"
The coachman was about to speak when his pupils suddenly contracted, and he looked behind him: "Sir, be careful!"
Chi Yan didn't even turn his head, casually catching the thing tossed in, a nonchalant smile playing on his lips: "Just a little..."
"kitchen knife???"
When his eyes fell on what he was holding, his expression immediately turned to disbelief.
Damn, are you playing this dirty?!
The coachman looked at him with admiration: "Sir, you have excellent skills!"
Little did he know that Chi Yan's eyes had turned cold; someone was taking advantage of the chaos to try and kill him!
...
When Shen Tangning rushed over, this was the scene she saw. She dismounted, her eyes flashing with a sharp edge: "Capture them all, and don't let a single one escape!"
The people from the Jingzhao Prefecture were well-trained and swarmed forward, quickly surrounding the rioting crowd.
