Chapter 304 The Downpour Arrives (1/2)

β€œThe Jingzhao Prefecture has taken those people away. No matter who instigated them, they will have to pay the price for their actions.”

Shen Tangning narrowed her eyes slightly, concealing the coldness that flashed across them.

Chi Yan's lips curled up as he stared at her with his hands behind his back. She noticed him and turned around: "What are you laughing at?"

His eyes were filled with a captivating smile as he leaned closer, his tone intimate: "Madam, your rescue of the hero just now was truly unforgettable."

In other people's stories, it's always the hero saving the damsel in distress, but he married a formidable woman. But to be honest, it's not so bad to be protected like this.

Shen Tangning's face flushed, and she pushed his head away expressionlessly: "Stop being silly!"

She turned to look at the sky outside, somewhat curiously, "You're so sure, aren't you afraid I'm lying to you? What if it doesn't rain? You'll be embarrassed then."

Meeting Chi Yan's casual gaze, her eyes held a hint of probing.

He smirked, his reply somewhat frivolous: "Sure. But we're husband and wife. If I'm in trouble, my wife will have to suffer with me?"

He still didn't ask her how she knew.

Her eyes flickered slightly, and Shen Tangning lowered her eyelashes: "Fine, who says a woman should follow her husband no matter what?"

Chi Yan raised an eyebrow in displeasure, tightening his arms around her: "Who's the chicken and who's the dog?"

She reached out to push him, then suddenly paused, her nose twitching slightly, her eyes filled with suspicion: "Did you smell a faint stench?"

Chi Yan's face stiffened, and he touched his nose guiltily: "...I'm going to take a bath."

β€”β€”

Night falls.

The half-closed window was suddenly blown open by the wind, and a gust of damp, cold air rushed into the room, carrying the unique earthy smell, sweeping away the stuffiness.

The howling wind continued intermittently. Shen Tangning groggily opened her eyes and, hearing the faint sound of rain, perked up a bit: "Ayan, is it raining outside?"

Chi Yan draped his arm around her waist, rested his head on her shoulder, and practically clung to her, mumbling, "Okay, let's go back to sleep."

No wonder I wake up from the heat every night.

Occasionally, I would be woken up by a strong feeling of suffocation.

She took a deep breath and, as was her habit, pushed his head to the side: "Wake up."

Chi Yan frowned in displeasure, reluctantly opened his eyes, and saw Shen Tangning staring straight at him. He immediately smiled and leaned in to kiss her.

"Why are you looking at me so affectionately in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"

Shen Tangning: "..."

Sometimes she felt that he had a really good attitude.

Just then, a flash of light appeared outside; lightning streaked across the night sky, briefly illuminating the pitch-black night.

Not long after, a series of muffled thunderclaps followed.

The two sat up simultaneously, Chi Yan looking surprised: "It's really raining?"

Large raindrops pattered against the eaves.

Chi Yan put on his shoes and went to the window. Rain drifted in through the open window, and he looked up.

It was clear that the rain was heavy, and the scenery in the courtyard was instantly blurred by the rain. He reached out and caught a handful of rainwater. The raindrops hit his palm and stung slightly.

Although he had expected it, Chi Yan was still somewhat surprised when he actually saw this scene.

The torrential rain that Tang Ning had predicted arrived just as expected, almost exactly at the same time.
