Chapter 311 This is True Love (1/2)

There are no secrets in the world, especially since Chi Yan deliberately publicized it in front of so many people. Shen Tangning's good name quickly spread, and the Xie family was also repeatedly mentioned.

The palace must have heard the news, but there has been no action yet.

Shen Tangning would go to help every day, not for the sake of gaining a good reputation, but because doing what she could was better than sitting at home doing nothing.

The emergency repairs to Yunlong Weir are still going very difficult. Chi Jingyu has performed exceptionally well and is expected to be promoted after this incident. Coincidentally, the position of Minister of Works is vacant, and he is the only one who can fill the vacancy.

His Majesty appointed Chi Yan, who does not belong to any department and has no specific duties. He is busy rescuing people, repairing buildings, and dredging official ditches. He goes wherever he is needed, and it is common for him to not even have time to eat.

After learning about this, Shen Tangning would make a special trip to deliver his lunch every day at noon.

Achoo!

This is Chi Yan's fifth sneeze.

A passerby heard the sound and looked over with concern: "Lord Chi, have you caught a cold?"

It's not surprising, really. These past few days, Chi Yan has been running around with them, doing all sorts of dirty and tiring work. Coupled with the unpredictable weather, it's normal that his body can't keep up.

"How could that be?" Chi Yan was quite confident in his health. He rubbed his nose and didn't take it too seriously, muttering to himself, "Perhaps my wife misses me."

"Pfft." The man couldn't help but laugh. "You really are something, always talking about Madam."

Chi Yan, unashamed, chuckled and said, "You'll understand once you get married!"

After working for most of the morning, the symptoms worsened, and Chi Yan felt dizzy, lightheaded, and unsteady. He realized that something was wrong with him.

Seeing this, the people below all advised him to sit down and rest for a while. It was already close to noon, so Chi Yan did not refuse again.

Shen Tangning brought the food in a lunchbox and asked someone, "Excuse me, where is Chi Yan?"

The other person recognized her and respectfully pointed her in a direction: "Lord Chi is sitting over there."

So Shen Tangning entered the room and saw this scene—

Chi Yan sat casually on a threshold, lazily propping up one leg, with his elbow resting on his knee and his head propped up, looking pitiful.

The surrounding conditions were rudimentary, without even a stool. He always paid attention to his appearance and his clothes had to be neat and clean, but now he didn't care at all that his robes were trailing on the ground, which meant he must have been extremely tired.

She unconsciously softened her steps and stopped in front of him: "Husband."

Chi Yan didn't react. She frowned slightly and raised her voice: "Husband?"

Chi Yan looked up a beat late, and the moment he saw who it was, the corners of his lips curled up: "Why are you here?"

At that glance, Shen Tangning noticed his unusual complexion; his fair face was flushed with a faint red, and his eyes were somewhat unfocused. Her expression immediately hardened, and she placed her hand on his forehead: "Are you running a fever?"

The scalding temperature startled her, and her brows furrowed even more.

Chi Yan didn't flinch, but sighed as he touched her slightly cool hand, his reaction a little slow: "What fever?"

Shen Tangning held his shoulder, her tone serious: "Chi Yan, why didn't you say you were sick?"

He hugged her waist without a second thought, his eyes filled with satisfaction, but his tone was listless: "You're being mean to me again."

As if making an accusation, Shen Tangning paused in her attempt to push him away, her voice softening as she patted him on the shoulder: "Ayan, let's go back and see a doctor."
