The next moment, she fell into someone's arms.
The familiar scent was unexpectedly comforting. Shen Tangning's eyelashes trembled, and when she looked up, she met Chi Yan's sharp jawline. Chi Yan pursed his lips and looked down at her, his eyes revealing a lingering coldness.
"..."
She suddenly realized that, given the current situation... it would be better for her to play dead.
Everyone rushed over to check on the situation with concern, and Shen Tangning naturally "fainted".
Her face was deathly pale as she collapsed into Chi Yan's arms, her body a mess, her palms covered in shocking bloodstains, which made everyone stare wide-eyed and startle as they gathered around her, chattering amongst themselves.
"What happened to Madam Chi? Why did she end up like this?"
"I heard the horse suddenly went out of control and went berserk! Oh dear, how could something like this happen out of nowhere?"
In the crowd, a hint of guilt flashed in Pei Mingzhu's eyes, and she unconsciously frowned.
Chi Yan frowned slightly, picked the person up in his arms, and said in a low voice with a serious face, "Please make way, everyone. I need to take my wife to see a doctor."
His cold expression was truly frightening, and with his wife, whose fate was unknown, in his arms, he exuded the aura of a desperate widower. The crowd fell silent and spontaneously made way for him.
As Chi Yan passed Yan Xingzhou, he paused. Everyone was busy worrying about Shen Tangning, but no one cared about the life or death of a eunuch. He concealed the cold glint in his eyes:
"Let's also invite a royal physician to examine this young eunuch."
Upon seeing this, the man in blue breathed a sigh of relief without making it obvious.
Unaware of the situation, Shen Ci followed closely behind Chi Yan into the tent, her eyes red and her fists clenched: "Sister, what happened to you..."
Suddenly, Shen Tangning quietly opened her eyes and winked at him.
He stared in shock, his mouth agape, and it took him a while to realize what was happening. He crept closer, lowered his voice, and leaned over the bed, his tone reproachful: "Sister, how could you do such a ridiculous thing!"
I almost scared him to death!
Just as Shen Tangning was about to speak, Chi Yan coughed softly, his expression not looking good, and the two of them shut up at the same time.
A royal physician lifted the curtain and entered, glancing at Chi Yan before cautiously saying, "Lord Chi, this humble servant has come to examine Young Madam Chi."
Chi Yan glanced at Shen Ci, who was anxiously waiting beside him. The latter tactfully stood up and made way for him, saying, "Please, go ahead."
Seeing Chi Yan's pale face, the imperial physician initially thought Shen Tangning's injuries were severe and didn't dare to say a word. However, after taking her pulse, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Reporting to Lord Chi, your wife was just frightened. I will prescribe some medicine for her hand injury. Apply it once in the morning and once in the evening, and make sure the wound doesn't get wet."
Chi Yan noted everything down, and then suddenly asked, "How is that eunuch doing now? He risked his life to save my wife, and I haven't had a chance to thank him yet."
His tone was gentle, but his eyes held a deeper meaning.
The imperial physician, oblivious to the danger, frowned and said, "It seems that your injuries are much more serious than the young mistress's."
...
After seeing the imperial physician out, Shen Ci turned back, his expression blank, and after a long pause, he managed to utter a sentence:
"Sister, are you saying that you, all by yourself and on horseback, severely injured the Third Prince?"
