Chapter 394 Betraying One's Own (2/2)

Chi Yan bowed respectfully to take his leave, then turned and left the palace, his eyes already darkening.

Emperor Chongde is suspicious, but it's unclear whether he suspects the eldest princess or himself.

...

Back at the Yiluan Division, Feng Yong hurriedly approached, carrying several bundles of files: "Commander, those prisoners you instructed to take special care of have given new confessions. I'll put them on the table for you to review."

Chi Yan stopped in his tracks, stepped forward, and casually flipped through the pages: "Is this the case about the Five-Stone Powder?"

Feng Yong added, "And in the case of the hunt, it is said that a new mastermind has also been implicated."

Someone under the eaves looked up at them.

He cursed and swore, "Damn it, after all this interrogation, he's finally confessed!"

Chi Yan nodded, then remembered something: "Come with me to the Ministry of Justice later. Put the things on my desk first, and I'll look at them when I get back."

"Alright!" Feng Yong huffed and puffed as he carried the things into the house and turned to come out. Seeing that Chi Yan was still waiting for him at the door, he quickly followed her, and the two of them went out one after the other.

Everyone in the courtyard was doing their own thing, and no one noticed this corner.

Huo Xian was always in charge of organizing Chi Yan's documents, so when he entered Chi Yan's office, no one suspected anything.

Huo Xian entered the room, his brows furrowed with annoyance. Wasn't this case closed long ago? How come a new mastermind has been implicated now?

He suppressed the surging emotions in his heart and quickly walked to Chi Yan's office desk. There were many things piled up on it, but they were organized in a messy way. He dared not touch them easily.

Upon noticing the several volumes of case files that Feng Yong had just brought in, his eyes lit up slightly. He quickly picked up a volume, opened it, and glanced at it, then his brows furrowed involuntarily.

No, that's not it.

He picked up another scroll, his brow furrowing even more deeply. What were all these things...?

Suddenly, something flashed through his mind, and he abruptly opened his eyes wide. Just then, a casual voice came from the doorway:

"What are you looking for?"

Huo Xian stiffened and turned around to see Chi Yan leaning against the door, hands in his pockets, looking at him with a playful expression: "Need my help?"

Feng Yong stood next to him, looking at him with disdain.

He fell for the trap!

When did Chi Yan begin to suspect him?

Without time to think too much, Huo Xian's face stiffened slightly, but he quickly forced a smile and explained apologetically, "I came in to help the commander organize his things..."

Chi Yan scoffed, unsure whether he believed him or not. He stepped inside, followed closely by Feng Yong, who kicked the door shut behind him. Feng Yong coldly glanced at him and asked, "Are you planning to confess yourself, or should I send you to the imperial prison?"

Huo Xian's fingertips were cold. He stood still, cold sweat seeping from his forehead.

He couldn't quite figure out what Chi Yan was thinking. He saw Chi Yan sit down leisurely and glance at him slowly: "Let me guess, are you the Third Prince's man or the Fourth Prince's man?"

Huo Xian gasped, his blood seemed to freeze, and his eyes widened in astonishment.

Feng Yong's approach was much more direct and brutal. He rushed forward and kicked Huo Xian hard in the back of the knee. Huo Xian, a weak scholar, could not withstand such force. His face turned pale, and he fell to his knees in pain.

Feng Yong pressed him to the ground and coldly snorted, "Why is the commander wasting words with him? This kind of traitor should be dealt with according to the rules. Let him go to the imperial prison and suffer a lot!"

"Old Feng, can you please not be so rude?"

Chi Yan clicked his tongue and looked at the person on the ground. Huo Xian's face was pressed to the ground, and his neck was red.

He said casually, "I still have a use for him."
