Chapter 4 The Tea-Serving Incident (1/2)

The atmosphere at Furong Home was somewhat strange.

After all that commotion last night, it's clear that no one slept well.

Even with makeup, Lady Hou couldn't hide her haggard appearance, and Marquis Ningyuan's expression was cold and stern, clearly indicating a rift between the couple.

The two had a big fight over this last night. Marquis Ningyuan accused his wife of neglecting to discipline their son and being too indulgent, which led to his lawlessness and even deceiving his superiors and subordinates about his marriage!

The heir of the dignified Marquis of Ningyuan married a concubine's daughter; wouldn't that make him a laughingstock?

For the first time in decades of marriage, he gave the Lady Hou a cold shoulder and stayed in his concubine's courtyard that night.

Lady Hou was so angry that she smashed everything she could in the house!

She felt wronged and even more resentful that her usually calm and rational son had been bewitched by that vixen, Shen Xiwei.

She asked her son to make Shen Xiwei his concubine, and for the first time, her son actually contradicted her!

What a troublemaker! She caused unrest in the whole family the moment she walked in!

At the same time, she also resented Shen Tangning, wondering why she couldn't just be more tolerant? Why did she have to cause such a commotion in the household before she would stop!

On the contrary, the second wife's family looked quite well. Madam Chi had a beaming smile on her face, and even the usually taciturn Master Chi had a ruddy complexion.

Chi Yue bit her lip indignantly, her eyes dark and swollen.

Tch, what are you so smug about?

Shen Tangning is proud and arrogant; it's no wonder she wouldn't even look at this wealthy family that reeks of money!

Just wait and see, there'll be plenty to watch later!

There was a noise at the door, and a maid's voice came: "Second Young Master, Second Young Madam."

Everyone looked up.

A moon-white skirt, adorned with clusters of lotus flowers, came into view first, and Shen Tangning walked gracefully towards her.

She slightly raised her face, her eyes smiling, her every move picturesque, exuding an air of elegance and grace.

For the first time, Madam Chi felt that her son was so unpresentable.

She glanced sideways at Chi Yan, who stood listlessly beside Shen Tangning, and her eyes twitched slightly.

Oh well, after all, it's my own child.

The two entered and politely greeted Madam Chi, who wearily raised her hand, resting her head on her hand, and said, "Get up."

She was getting on in years and her body couldn't take the strain. She couldn't sleep for the rest of the night and was very upset.

Such a good marriage, but it ended up falling into the hands of that woman's offspring. It's true that even in death, it's meant to annoy her!

Shen Tangning then inquired about the well-being of Marquis Ningyuan and his wife, ignoring their awkward expressions, and smiled at Chi Er and his wife, saying, "Greetings to Father and Mother."

Madam Chi was flattered and couldn't stop smiling: "Good child, get up quickly!"

A while later, Chi Jingyu and Shen Xiwei rushed over.

"grandmother."

Chi Jingyu paused for a moment, then said, "Father, Mother."

Lady Hou's expression was indifferent: "You still acknowledge me as your mother?"

Chi Jingyu's face stiffened, and Shen Xiwei bit her lip and shrank her shoulders.

After a stalemate, the old lady spoke calmly: "Alright, don't be late, Minghui still has to be on duty."

Lady Hou swallowed her words, and that's how she stopped pressing the issue.

When it was time to serve tea, Shen Xiwei carefully took the teacup and knelt before Marquis Ningyuan and his wife. Marquis Ningyuan didn't say anything, but picked up the teacup and took a sip.

"Mother, please have some tea."

Lady Hou looked at the tea being handed to her, while Chi Jingyu stared intently at her, as if afraid that she would make things difficult for Shen Xiwei.

Her foolish son has plenty of ways to torment people in the inner quarters; she doesn't need to let such a wretched little thing cause her to lose heart with her son.
