Yan Mingyi's eyes flickered slightly, and just as she was about to say something, the palace gates were suddenly kicked open—
The first thing to rush in was the biting cold wind from outside. A slender figure stood alone, the wind rustling the hem of his robes. He raised his pale face and looked over, his eyes clear and dark:
"The show is about to begin, why didn't Father wait for me?"
Yan Jue stepped inside, followed by a group of guards who rushed in and blocked the entrance, displaying a strong and vigilant stance.
Emperor Chongde didn't notice anything amiss, and lazily glanced at him, a hint of a smile forming on his face: "Fourth Prince, you've come at the perfect time. I'll leave this to you."
As Yan Jue approached, he scanned the faces in the room one by one, and a slight smile appeared on his pale face: "Everyone's here."
His words were ambiguous, and the hall fell silent for a moment. Yan Huai looked up at him, his eyes calm: "Is Fourth Brother's health better?"
Yan Jue glanced at him and replied earnestly, "If I keep dragging this illness on, I'll just be waiting to die. I might as well do something useful, so that I can... die a worthy death?"
Even at this point, they seemed to still be maintaining a facade of brotherly affection.
A weak voice rang out, tinged with gritted teeth: "Yan Jue, you're such a good actor!"
Yan Jue glanced down at him with a condescending look, as if only then noticing Yan Xingzhou on the ground, and asked with some surprise, "Third Brother, why are you in such a sorry state?"
Blood stained almost half of his shoulder, and his face was pale from blood loss, but his eyes were filled with hatred: "I really underestimated you before!"
Secretly, he approached Yan Jue for cooperation; without his help, the hunting grounds and the palace coup wouldn't have gone so smoothly.
Seeing how easily he chatted and laughed with his father, Yan Xingzhou finally realized that Yan Jue had always been his father's man!
He used to think he was good at disguising himself, but Yan Jue was clearly far superior to him in this regard! Who would have thought that such a frail and sickly man had such great ambitions!
"It's not too late for you to see the truth now, at least you can die knowing why." Yan Jue slowly curled his lips, seeing the emperor's chest heaving with anger, and looked at Emperor Chongde with a leisurely air, "Third brother looks like he's in a lot of pain, can I help him?"
The fatherly bond with this abandoned son had been exhausted the moment he drugged and imprisoned him, so Emperor Chongde didn't care whether the other lived or died: "Do as you please."
So Yan Jue walked towards Yan Xingzhou, whose calm demeanor finally vanished, replaced by a fierce but weak expression: "What do you want to do?!"
Emperor Chongde didn't react until something sharp suddenly pressed against his back, at which point his gaze sharpened.
The Imperial Guards turned their swords on Yan Jue, while the group Yan Jue brought in also drew their swords and faced the Imperial Guards. The scene changed abruptly.
Emperor Chongde paused, then asked in a kind and tolerant tone, "Fourth Prince, are you confused?"
Normally, he wouldn't entrust his back to someone else.
But Yan Jue was walking towards Yan Xingzhou and happened to pass by him. He was completely unprepared for the other party and couldn't understand why Yan Jue would switch sides at the last minute.
Yan Jue chuckled softly: "Father always thinks he can control everyone, but I really want to see how surprised Father looks."
Emperor Chongde's voice was calm and composed, even with a hint of a smile: "Then you've done it."
"Not enough." Yan Jue shook his head, slowly pressing the sword deeper into his hand, and stared at his back. "I'm very curious, has Father Emperor ever done anything wrong in his life?"
Someone suddenly laughed. It was Yan Mingyi. She seemed to find the scene quite amusing, her eyes gleaming with amusement: "A soft-hearted person could not have reached this position. Your question is somewhat unnecessary."
Emperor Chongde asked in a kind tone, "Fourth Prince, did someone say something to you?"
Yan Jue remained silent for a moment, then said gently, "I was just thinking of my mother. Does Father still remember what she looks like?"
