Seeing that Madam Chi was deliberately avoiding him, Shen Ci felt a little awkward: "Madam Chi is here too?"
Shen Tangning glanced at him, pulled him aside, frowned, and asked in a low voice, "Why are you here?"
Shen Ci curled his lip, his expression indignant: "What's wrong with that kid Chi Yan? I found out about it this morning and I was almost furious!"
She pursed her lips: "He was tricked in this matter; he was schemed against."
"I don't believe he would kill someone either. Although that kid looks like he has thick eyebrows and big eyes, he's actually very cunning, but this kind of thing doesn't seem like something he would do!"
Shen Ci muttered a few words to himself, frowning as he repeatedly bent and twisted the whip in his hand. "If he really dares to do something to betray my sister, I'll break his legs!"
Shen Tangning glanced at the whip in his hand, her brow twitched slightly, and she tapped his forehead with her fingertip, saying irritably, "Acting so impulsively, you'd better watch out or Father will break your legs first!"
Shen Ci blinked slightly guiltily: "I didn't really mean to hit him. I just wanted to ask what happened. Sister, what exactly is going on?"
Shen Tangning lowered her brows slightly: "There are many suspicious points in this matter, and it cannot be explained in a few words. I don't have any clues yet."
She did have someone in mind, but wouldn't it be too much trouble to go to such lengths just to deal with Chi Yan?
She glanced at her dim-witted younger brother and had to give him a serious warning: "These are special times. Countless eyes are watching you. You must be careful with your words and actions and not act recklessly. Do you understand?"
Shen Ci wasn't truly stupid; she raised her eyebrows with a carefree air: "Alright, I'll listen to you, Sister! If you need anything, just let me know!"
——
In the dimly lit prison cell.
Chi Yan was tied to the rack, his head hanging down.
He heard footsteps approaching and slowly raised his head to look.
Behind Lord Liu followed a famous young man. The two approached and seemed to be discussing something. The young man listened attentively, his brows furrowed slightly, and he nodded from time to time.
Upon arriving at the prison cell door, the two stopped. Lord Liu directed the jailer to open the door, and Chi Yan turned his head to meet the young man's gaze, finally seeing his appearance clearly.
He wore a dark scarlet round-necked official robe, with a belt around his waist and a silver fish-shaped pouch. He also wore a soft-brimmed headdress. His features were regular, and his eyes and brows were cool and aloof.
Lord Liu gestured for him to come this way: "Lord Liu, this way please."
Liu Yi nodded slightly and followed him into the cell.
The moment he and Chi Yan made eye contact, he was somewhat surprised.
Because he had a general understanding of the outside world's opinions about Chi Yan, and because the other party was involved in a murder case, he thought that he would be a rebellious, slippery playboy, just like those he had encountered before.
But Chi Yan's first impression of him was surprisingly clean, not in terms of his appearance, but in his eyes.
His eyes were clear, and there was a hidden air of confidence in his brows and eyes. Such a person could not be associated with a vicious criminal at all.
Of course, he wouldn't base his judgments on intuition.
"Young Master Chi, I am Liu Yifu, the Vice Minister of the Court of Judicial Review. I will be responsible for investigating your case. I hope you will cooperate."
Chi Yan's eyes flickered slightly, and he curled the corners of his lips: "Greetings, Lord Liu. I have told you everything that needed to be told. Is there anything else you would like to know, Lord Liu?"
Liu Yifu got straight to the point: "I have read the testimony of Young Master Chi. You suspect that you were drugged that day, but I just returned from the crime scene and found no drug residue in your food or drink that day."
Chi Yan's gaze paused.
