Chapter 98 Jealousy Arises (1/2)

Shen Tangning turned her head slightly, looking at him calmly, her eyes bright but cold: "Does the young master have any further instructions?"

Chi Jingyu felt a surge of annoyance at her distant and polite attitude. He frowned slightly and asked, "If I agree to your request, will we have nothing to do with each other afterward?"

He pondered this over and over. Since the protagonist of his dream was Shen Tangning, perhaps the problem lay with her. If she agreed to settle things with him, would he stop having those dreams?

She almost laughed. He had come to her on his own, yet he spoke as if she had been the one clinging to him.

Shen Tangning had no intention of arguing with him and readily agreed, "That's right."

Chi Jingyu's gaze steadied, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders: "Okay, I promise you."

He pursed his lips, seemingly finding it difficult to speak, "However, I don't have that many silver notes on me right now. In a couple of days... I'll have someone send them to you."

After he finished speaking, he refused to give her any more glances and turned away.

Shen Tangning rested her chin on her hand and watched him leave, her eyes thoughtful.

Chi Jingyu was indeed traumatized; he must have a brain disorder.

That's thirty thousand taels! He probably doesn't understand the significance of the Marquis's mansion today!

However, if a bargain is offered to you, you might as well take advantage of it.

She curled the corners of her lips, turned around and walked back, when she suddenly bumped into a wall of flesh. Startled, she stumbled backward, only to have her shoulder supported.

Chi Yan lowered his thin eyelids and stared at her with interest, his voice quite intriguing: "Madam is truly remarkable. In less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, you've made a net profit of thirty thousand taels. You're a business genius!"

Shen Tangning tilted her head slightly, looking at him with a bit of a daze, her ears burning slightly, but she quickly regained her composure: "Why are you eavesdropping?"

Seeing that she had regained her footing, Chi Yan released his hold on her, crossed his arms, and sighed half-jokingly, "There's nothing I can do, Madam is almost being kidnapped!"

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Shen Tangning glared at him, somewhat curious. "Since you heard it, why didn't you say anything just now?"

Chi Yan raised an eyebrow slightly, his tone playful: "Isn't this because I was afraid of interfering with your business?"

Shen Tangning was amused by him, her eyes sparkling with laughter.

A thought suddenly crossed his mind, and he cleared his throat awkwardly, saying casually, "Actually, my family is quite well-off."

She looked at him with obvious confusion and bewilderment.

Chi Yan coughed softly, his tone quite serious: "If you like money, you can manage my little treasury from now on."

Shen Tangning was startled, her gaze meeting his sincere and burning eyes. In that instant, something gently brushed against her heart, and she clearly felt her heartbeat suddenly quicken.

Her eyelashes fluttered twice, and a soft rustling sound of footsteps on fallen leaves came from not far away. Chi Yan subconsciously looked up but did not utter a sound.

Shen Tangning also remained silent.

A moment later, Jiang Qingyue emerged from behind the crescent-shaped door, a mischievous glint in her eyes: "Why did you two abandon your guests and come here to slack off?"

Shen Tangning smiled slightly: "Qingyue, what brings you here?"

Jiang Qingyue blushed and stammered, "I drank too much tea... and I don't really know the way."

Chi Yan nodded tactfully: "You two chat, I'll go back first."

Shen Tangning understood and smiled at Jiang Qingyue, "I'll lead you there."
