Shen Tangning and Chi Yan took their seats, and breakfast was already laid out on the table.
Chi Jingyu sat calmly, showing no intention of leaving. Chi's mother had no choice but to awkwardly ask, "Has the young master had breakfast? If not, why not stay and join us?"
Chi Yan spoke slowly and deliberately: "Mother, we're afraid our simple meals won't suit the young master's taste..."
Upon hearing this, Chi's mother looked embarrassed and didn't know what to do.
Chi Jingyu glanced at him and said abruptly, "It's alright. I came in a hurry and haven't had a meal yet, so I'll have to trouble you, Uncle and Aunt."
Chi Yan scoffed lightly, earning a glare from his mother.
Shen Tangning's eyes flickered slightly, and she looked up in surprise, somewhat puzzled.
What exactly is this person up to?
This is so unusual; it doesn't seem like Ji Kyung-ok's style.
Because of Chi Jingyu's uninvited arrival, the breakfast process was unexpectedly somewhat dull.
Chi's father cleared his throat and took the initiative to greet him: "Jingyu, you've come so early, is there something important?"
He had naturally heard about Shen Xiwei's miscarriage, but it wasn't appropriate for him to ask her directly, since it wasn't something to be proud of, and it would be even more inappropriate to unintentionally touch on her sore spot.
Chi Jingyu remained calm, having already prepared an excuse: "It's nothing important. It's just that my second uncle and aunt came to the Marquis's residence earlier, but I haven't paid them a visit yet, which is truly impolite."
He paused for a moment, as if the previous estrangement had never occurred, "Although we've separated, the two families shouldn't become estranged; it's best to keep in touch regularly."
Mr. and Mrs. Chi exchanged glances, not knowing what was going on, but still smiled in agreement: "That's true, Jingyu, you are so considerate."
Since they've already said that, they can't very well tell the customers to leave.
Shen Tangning grew increasingly suspicious. She kept her head down as she ate, but she kept noticing a faint gaze falling on her. She looked up to check, but found nothing.
She glanced at Chi Jingyu, her eyes thoughtful.
After finishing their meal, Shen Tangning and Chi Yan got up to leave, and Chi Jingyu also stood up: "Second brother."
Chi Yan paused, turned around to look at him, and raised an eyebrow slightly: "Is there anything else, brother?"
Chi Jingyu's gaze swept over Shen Tangning imperceptibly, and he said calmly, "It's been a long time since we brothers caught up. Would it be convenient for us to have a short chat?"
After a long silence, Chi Yan smiled knowingly and said, "It would be impolite to refuse."
After he finished speaking, he looked at Shen Tangning with a questioning gaze, as he had originally agreed to help her make dumplings.
She nodded slightly: "Then you go first, I'll have the kitchen prepare the ingredients."
After leaving the main hall, looking in the direction the two had left, Shen Tangning's gaze deepened: "Yuan Zhao."
Yuan Zhao appeared out of nowhere and very tactfully took the initiative to ask, "Are you asking me to monitor them?"
Clearly, he had already guessed Shen Tangning's thoughts before she even spoke.
"..." She paused for a moment, then coughed lightly, feeling a little awkward. "Chi Yan, no need. Go listen to what Chi Jingyu has to say."
She was genuinely curious about this person's unusual attitude.
Many guesses even crossed my mind:
Did Chi Jingyu regret giving her the 30,000 taels?
Or perhaps, Shen Xiwei miscarried, and Chi Jingyu suspected her, so he came to test her.
Then why would he come looking for Chi Yan instead of him?
