In the noisy KTV, at this moment, it was strangely quiet. In the chaotic lights, looking at his face that was sometimes bright and sometimes dim, she suddenly laughed.
"You're worthy of being the one who followed me around when we were little. It's not in vain that I've played with you for so long. I thought you'd become distant from me after you came back from abroad, but I didn't expect that you still care about me." Wen Ning patted his shoulder carelessly and joked.
When she first saw him today, she felt a bit uneasy. She even wondered if their relationship had changed over the years? Had their absence from abroad sapped them of their time? Deep down, she didn't want it to change. After all, he was her childhood friend, someone she'd spent her entire childhood and adolescence with, and they held a deep bond. Those were the most beautiful memories of her life. While feelings might change with time and distance, the truth of what happened between them could never be erased. So many people, so many things, ultimately succumbed to the passage of time.
Wei Mingyu felt a little lost when he heard her words. In fact, what he wanted to hear more than these words was: she said she missed him.
After all, he'd missed her so much during his time abroad, thinking about her constantly. He'd wanted to give up his studies and fly back to see her, but he couldn't. He was afraid that if he saw her, he'd lose his focus on studying abroad. So, all these years, he'd tried to control his thoughts of her, and even contacted her only rarely. Only around Chinese New Year and other holidays would he lose control and, quite sensibly, send her a text. Normally, they had little time for casual conversation. Add to that the time difference, and their communication was practically like that of strangers.
However, as soon as he finished his studies, he flew back to China without stopping. He wanted to see her immediately, to be in front of her, to celebrate her birthday in person, to make up for his absence. But he never thought that he was a step too late and someone else got there first. She already had a boyfriend.
He smiled bitterly and said jokingly, "That's right. I miss you so much. I miss you all the time."
The look in his eyes was so sincere that she almost doubted it, wondering if he was doing it on purpose, trying to trick her. After all, he had done a lot of these wicked things before, but she was a little confused at the moment, so she didn't think much about it and joked, "You have a conscience."
In the corridor outside the KTV, Nan Yi listened to the noise coming from the private room and couldn't help but frown, saying, "These people sing so badly. Aren't they afraid of polluting other people's ears?"
The manager in charge had some cold sweat on his forehead. It was not right to answer this question, nor was it right not to answer. Either way he would offend people, so he simply kept silent.
Fortunately, Nan Yi was just complaining and didn't really blame anyone, otherwise, the manager would probably be in a lot of trouble.
"Hey, you see, those two seem pretty quiet, why do they like this damn place? I don't know what's so fun about two girls and a bunch of people coming here?" Nan Yi turned his head and asked Lu Shiyan.
Lu Shiyan glanced at him and said lightly: "If you don't like it, you can go back."
I don't know what's wrong with him. He came here to pick someone up, but he insisted on coming along. Well, just come. There's nothing to complain about. Everyone has different preferences. Just like they like to chat in a private room, they like to sing in KTV. There's no difference.
"Is it that serious? I'm just complaining a few words." Nan Yi said indifferently. He was no longer surprised by his behavior. If he spoke to him in a nice tone, he would still feel uncomfortable.
There was a knock on the door, but the noise inside was too loud and no one paid attention. After Lu Shiyan signaled the manager to leave, he opened the door and went in. After all, it would be impossible for them to hear the noise at the door.
"Oh no, your man is probably going to be snatched away by someone." Nan Yi just walked in, looked at the two people on the sofa in front, raised his eyebrows, and said to Lu Shiyan jokingly.
After hearing his words, Lu Shiyan followed his gaze and saw that the two of them were chatting happily. It seemed like they were having a great time. No wonder she hadn't heard from him. So, someone was pestering her here? And it was someone who liked her. Tsk, she was still chatting with him foolishly.
Lu Shiyan ignored Nan Yi's words and walked over without changing his expression. Wen Ning suddenly noticed something and looked up, seeing Lu Shiyan walking towards her. Her brows relaxed, and she quickly got up from the sofa and ran directly towards him. Then she hugged him, raised her head, and asked with a smile, "Why are you here?"
When Wei Mingyu saw that she saw someone, he ran over and hugged the person. His good mood just for a moment fell to the bottom in an instant. If he had known it would be like this, he would have come back earlier no matter what, so as not to miss her.
Lu Shiyan glanced at Wei Mingyu, taking in the expression on his face clearly. The two of them stared at each other knowingly from such a short distance. Lu Shiyan looked away for a moment, then lowered his head to look at the person in his arms. He tapped her head and said unhappily, "Of course you came here to catch someone cheating."
"What? There's no evil to catch. They are all my friends." Wen Ning was not angry. He just pursed his lips and looked at him with a smile.
"Oh, friends? Then why don't you play with them? Sit and chat with him alone?" Lu Shiyan said casually.
Wen Ning was a little confused by his words, not understanding who he was talking about. However, she glanced back and figured it out. She hugged him and said, "Are you talking about Mingyu? He's my childhood friend, what others call my sweetheart. I just drank too much and felt a little dizzy. He had just returned from China, so I just sat down and chatted with him."
"Oh, childhood sweetheart, what kind of sweetheart?" Lu Shiyan said in a sour tone.
Wen Ning understood. She chuckled and pinched his face. "Are you jealous? Then I'll just say he's my childhood friend from now on. We're not childhood friends anymore."
"Jealous? Who is jealous?" Lu Shiyan said stubbornly.
"Okay, you're not jealous. I just wanted to call him childhood sweetheart. Anyway, I don't think 'bamboo shoot' sounds nice," Wen Ning explained with a serious smile. She hadn't expected him to be jealous.
"It's up to you. I don't care." Lu Shiyan still refused to admit it. He couldn't let her get too proud, otherwise, she would laugh at him for this in the future.
"Okay, I'm happy to. But you don't have to worry about him. He's just like my friends, just good friends. And he just happens to have a good relationship with my family, so he gets along better with me. I'm a little surprised that he can come back this time." Wen Ning pulled him to the sofa and explained their relationship to him.
"Fool."
When Lu Shiyan heard her words, he couldn't help but whisper, after all, that person didn't look at her as a friend, only she was confused by the situation.
