Seeing that the person opposite him was confused and silent, Shen Yunhao felt more at ease and began to actively extend goodwill.
"Little friend, do you know where this place is? How do we get out of here?"
"Kid, you... Holy crap!"
Halfway through his sentence, Shen Yunhao seemed to be startled by something, and he took two steps back and sat down on the ground.
The "child" who had just emerged from behind the rock seemed to be startled by Shen Yunhao's action. His short legs darted around and he hid back behind the rock.
"..."
Swallowing hard, Shen Yunhao felt a surge of emotions welling up inside him.
If he wasn't mistaken, this child seemed... not to be human!
Just now, after the child fully emerged, Shen Yunhao was startled by his peculiar appearance.
Most of them look like human cubs, but their pointed, long ears stand out starkly against their tender faces.
That's not all. More importantly, behind the child... there were two huge, light gray, oval-shaped bowl-like structures.
Like two separated eggshells, if put together, they can wrap the child into a complete egg.
The "eggshell" opened and closed slightly as the child walked, making it look as if it grew out from the child's back!
Obviously, human babies don't grow this...
"Could it be... that we've encountered a monster?"
Shen Yunhao squatted on the ground, looking at the small figure hiding behind the rock not far away, his heart filled with turmoil.
In this secluded, rocky cave, he didn't think the child in front of him was doing any kind of cosplay.
That could very well be a real monster!
Since cultivators exist in this world, it is not surprising that monsters would be born under the nourishment of the spiritual energy of heaven and earth.
In the mortal world, the descriptions of "immortals" are very lofty and grand, with various claims about them such as summoning wind and rain and turning stones into gold.
However, there are very few positive descriptions of monsters. In the stories circulating in the mortal world, these strange creatures are usually associated with negative events such as "harm and chaos".
He had seen many cultivators, and even had a cultivation manual at home. In a sense, he could be considered half an "immortal".
However, he had never actually seen a monster, and he had never even heard of any monster incidents happening in the vicinity since he was a child. His knowledge of this species was basically zero.
I never imagined that my first encounter with a monster would be under these circumstances.
Perhaps because the child's behavior was somewhat comical and did not convey any malice, Shen Yunhao, though somewhat frightened, did not immediately turn around and run away.
He knew very well that fear would not work in this situation; only by calming down and analyzing the situation could he possibly find a way back.
After calming down for about half a minute, Shen Yunhao spoke again, addressing the little child who was still staring at him: "Can you... understand what I'm saying?"
Regardless of whether the other party is a monster or not, the most urgent task is to try to establish communication and understand the current situation.
Unexpectedly, upon hearing Shen Yunhao's question, the child nodded at him.
"They can understand! And they're willing to communicate!"
Shen Yunhao's face lit up slightly, as if he had figured something out.
The barrage of questions I just asked might have overloaded this "little monster's" CPU, leaving him looking bewildered and unsure how to answer.
He can answer even a simple question right away.
Calming himself, Shen Yunhao continued to ask, "Are you a monster?"
The child hesitated for a moment when faced with this question, but finally nodded.
After receiving an affirmative answer, Shen Yunhao was no longer as afraid as before. Judging from the current situation, this child had no direct connection with the so-called "disaster or harm".
Did you rescue me from the water?
The child nodded.
Seeing this, Shen Yunhao breathed a sigh of relief.
Sure enough, he was thrown into the river, and this little monster saved him!
Then Shen Yunhao frowned again. Based on the conversation he heard before he lost consciousness, he was most likely harmed by someone.
"Cough cough... Thank you!" Shen Yunhao didn't ask pointless questions like why he saved him or whether he would harm him next. Instead, he asked, "Have you always lived in this cave?"
The child nodded, then shook his head as if he had thought of something.
"Um?"
Shen Yunhao didn't understand the child's meaning, but that didn't stop him from asking the question that mattered most to him: "Are there... other people or monsters here?"
This is a very important question because he is fairly certain that the baby monster has no ill intentions towards him, but he might not be so sure if there are other monsters involved.
Faced with this question, the child first shook his head, then nodded.
"..."
Shen Yunhao made a face with his head twitching, looking completely confused: "Brother, you're nodding and shaking your head all at once. My CPU from two lifetimes can't handle this. Can you do something simpler?"
After several conversations, the little monster was no longer so afraid of Shen Yunhao and came out from behind the rock once again.
This time, Shen Yunhao saw it more clearly. The child was only wearing a small gray bib, and had two large leaves on his back, which looked somewhat like clam shells upon closer inspection.
Could this be a little clam spirit?
The little one came out making "ee-ya ee-ya" sounds, waving its delicate little arms in the air, seemingly trying to express something.
Seeing Shen Yunhao's bewildered expression, the child boldly stepped forward, grabbed Shen Yunhao's clothes, and pulled him forward.
