The two of them stood back to back, leaning against each other, separated by a not-so-thick door panel.
Hearing his last harsh words, the little fox blushed and turned to make a silent face at the door.
Only when the footsteps outside the door began to fade into the distance did Bai Xiaoruo gently press her cheek against the door. The smile on her lips gradually faded, replaced by a faint sense of melancholy, which finally turned into a soft sigh.
The sigh was soft, yet it carried the delicate and complex thoughts of the young girl.

She turned around, her gaze unfocused as she looked out the window, her eyes seeming to pierce through endless space, seeing other girls like herself... all of them sharing countless deep connections with the boy outside the door...

Bai Xiaoruo leaned against the door and slowly squatted down, burying her face between her bent knees. Her voice was muffled, with a hint of barely perceptible bitterness, "If you get it too easily, if you step through this door too easily... and then turn around and go find other girls... then what should I do?"
Outside the window, the last rays of golden-red light from the horizon shone into the room, outlining a soft curve on the girl's fair profile.
She gave a self-deprecating laugh, a laugh tinged with helplessness and a hint of clarity. "After all... with so many precedents, I don't have the confidence to keep you here indefinitely..."
Inside the room, dusk had fallen and all was silent.
The girl sat alone behind the door, facing the empty room, pouring out her sweet yet hesitant thoughts that no one could hear.
