Chapter 14 The Scapegoat
Chapter 14
The bodyguard's gaze swept across the area, and he could only see a few employees in black uniforms in the luxurious, wide, and long corridor. Behind the two male waiters was another person whose figure was obscured, but judging from the exposed clothes and legs, he was also an employee.
The bodyguard looked away.
Wen Yining didn't dare to move until they finished checking the order forms. Only then did she dare to glance over there. In that short time, the people in the corridor had already entered the private room.
How could this be! What a coincidence!
Wen Yining watched him disappear down the corridor, tears welling up in her eyes, and wanted to tear her hair out.
For some reason, she felt inexplicably guilty.
For a moment, I felt extremely unsafe in this spacious corridor where I couldn't hide, and that he might see me at any moment.
I want to get off work as soon as possible, I want to run away as soon as possible!

"Hey, go to the East Spirit Hall and clean it up now."
Wen Yining turned her head, and Yao Yao looked at her impatiently from behind. Without waiting for her reply, Yao Yao said this and turned to leave.
Wen Yining turned to look at the clock on the wall. Hmm, very good, there are still 3 and a half hours until she gets off work.
Dongling Hall, isn't that the private room where the rich young master and the female celebrity live?
Wait, could this be the hall that Li Changjing entered?
That group of people looked like spoiled brats; Li Changjing probably wasn't going to see them.
She felt slightly relieved, finished her work, and pushed her tool cart to the door.
Grasping the gold-carved doorknob, she suddenly felt insecure. Those people seemed to be quite influential; it wouldn't be surprising if Li Changjing knew them...
She pushed the door open halfway, letting in a soft, ambiguous purple-blue light. There was no music inside, only the sounds of men and women talking and clinking glasses. She looked up and saw many people sitting in the booth, with the music on the screen paused.
Before I could even lift my foot, I saw the shattered glass on the ground in front of me refracting colorful light under the sun.
"Bang"
A glass came crashing down without warning, shattering on the ground not far in front of her. The shards grazed her calves, causing a slight tingling sensation.
"Did you hear me say 'get out'?!"
"If anyone else comes in, I'll kill you!"
A very young male voice, fierce and arrogant, spoke. His tone wasn't particularly condescending, but rather a chilling indifference, treating the person who entered as if they were a cat, dog, or ant.
It's easiest to get tips when you go into a private room. No wonder Yao Yao let her in. Wen Yining made thorough preparations before coming, but found that she still hadn't prepared enough.
Lowering her eyes and suppressing all her subtle emotions, she was about to leave when she heard someone shout, "Hey, hey, sister, come back! Don't mind him, he's gone mad and hasn't taken his medicine."
The man who spoke cursed again: "Hey Lao Gao, are you sick in the head?!"
Wen Yining hesitated for a moment, then chose to listen to the person behind her push the car in, avoiding the broken glass as she prepared to go in and clean the countertop first.
As I walked, I quickly glanced at the people in the booths. Under the dim lighting of the club, every man and woman was quite good-looking. Even those who were average-looking had developed a dashing and debonair air about them because of their pampered lifestyle and extravagant spending.
In the booth, a young man with a gloomy face and an aura of menacing men were sitting next to him, casually holding a wine glass and talking to him with his arm around his neck.
It seems that these were the two people who were speaking just now.
She lowered her eyes in relief; Li Changjing was not there.
As the two men talked, she quietly cleaned the table, trying her best to remain invisible and avoid provoking them.
"If you ask me, Deng Ran is not bad either. She is beautiful and has a good temper. Although her family is not so high up now, she still has an uncle who is in the cabinet to support her. After you marry her, she can't control you. You can still live a carefree life."
The man's face darkened: "Then I'd rather go down to the army!"
"Alright, alright! Our young master Gao has ideals and ambitions! Then you can join the army."
Those who were less close to him glanced at the expression on the face of the "Young Master Gao" and dared not laugh along.
"Get the hell out of here!" The man surnamed Gao shoved him aside, looking like he was about to explode again. "Fang Qi, are you even a brother?!"
After laughing enough, Fang Qi leaned over and said seriously, "How am I not a brother? I have an idea for you."
He lowered his voice, "You shouldn't bother with your company anymore. The older generation has outdated ideas. Even if you take it public and become incredibly successful, it won't matter. In their eyes, as long as you don't end up in a high position, everything else is considered unproductive. Tell me, among our group, who had the most influence with your grandfather since childhood?"
The man surnamed Gao raised an eyebrow. "That goes without saying!" As he spoke, he remembered something, turned to look at the balcony, and asked, "What's Brother Changjing doing?"
In the darkness, Wen Yining's hand wobbled, almost knocking over a cup, but fortunately no one noticed.
Fang Qi said, "You're on the phone, aren't you? Listen to me. You should go and beg our young master Qing, and then you can go into the department with him."
Gao raised an eyebrow, Fang Qi winked at him, let go of him, poured a glass of wine, and said nothing more.
Young Master Gao glanced around at the group of insignificant people in front of him and suppressed his temper, refraining from asking any questions at this moment. He changed the subject, "Why isn't Old Xue here? I haven't seen him since he got promoted."
Fang Qi casually said, "Don't mention it. He did get promoted, but he's now working under his future father-in-law. When you're dealing with your boss, you treat him like your father. But when your boss is your father-in-law, you treat him like your ancestor."
Upon hearing that name, Wen Yining quickly hurried to finish packing and stood up, ready to leave as soon as possible.
Young Master Gao inadvertently turned his gaze and when it landed on her face, he paused for several seconds before looking away.
Fang Qi noticed his gaze and followed the direction he had been looking to look at Wen Yining, raising an eyebrow. "Oh! Little sister, are you an adult yet?"
In an instant, several eyes turned to her.
Wen Yining paused, forced to suppress the anxiety of being discovered, and nodded.
"From the film academy?"
Wen Yining paused, then nodded again.
She glanced discreetly at the balcony. From this angle, she could only see a corner. In front of the huge, transparent floor-to-ceiling window, the entire northern city lay at her feet, with the lights of countless homes shining through the window like twinkling stars in the night.
Tonight is a cloudy day; the sky is dark and there's nothing there, not even as bright as the lights in the northern part of the city.
A tall figure stood by the window, and it was vaguely visible that she was making a phone call, the phone screen emitting a dim light.
Don't turn your head! Don't turn your head!
"Hey!" Fang Qi smiled at the female celebrity Song Feifei next to him, "Honey, your junior is really simple and hardworking. Say hello."
Song Feifei lifted her eyelids and glanced at her indifferently. Her attitude was definitely not friendly, completely different from her energetic and sweet appearance in front of the camera. Then she smiled, and the smile was directed at Fang Qi, who was speaking.
While dealing with them, Wen Yining nervously kept an eye on Li Changjing's movements.
The man named Fang Qi seemed to have struck up a conversation, asking, "What's your name? Have you been filming? I've never seen you before."
If Li Changjing is a seemingly refined and reserved smiling tiger, and the one surnamed Gao is a ruthless and sinister second-generation rich kid, then Fang Qi is the epitome of a carefree and reckless young master from the capital.
If I don't speak up, I might offend him; if I do speak up...
She subconsciously glanced at the balcony again, "Um...I..."
Young Master Gao glanced at her name tag, smiled, and then looked at her face.
Wen Yining was incredibly grateful at that moment, thankfully she didn't have to use her real name while working here.
Knowing how much longer this would take, Wen Yining took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and said softly in a pinched voice, "Excuse me, I have to take care of the trash."
Song Feifei grabbed his arm and tugged at it, "Don't delay his work."
Fang Qi pinched her cheek and waved to Wen Yining.
Closing the door to shut out the room, Wen Yining stood in the hallway and let out a heavy sigh.
They escaped a terrible fate.
*
West Hill Hall on the top floor.
It's been a long time since the bell was rung inside.
The male waiter, timing it perfectly, pushed open the door and went inside. It was very quiet inside. He walked over with his standard smile on his face, but upon seeing the scene inside without warning, he froze for a moment, then immediately reacted and was about to back away when his eyes caught sight of something else. His expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly opened the door and ran out, bumping into someone head-on.
Yao Yao took a few steps back before barely managing to stand, and muttered angrily, "What the hell are you seeing?! What are you panicking about!"
Yao Yao's expression changed too, "Who the hell is in there! Has someone gone mad!"
She instinctively reached for the manager, but then realized something, and her expression turned grim. "I suddenly remembered, Xishan has been kept by that person for a long time, right? I heard last time that the person keeping Xishan is involved in something... well, you know. If we see this..."
Both of their expressions changed.
The male waiter's eyes were sinister as he raised his chin. "Isn't there a new guy over there?"
Yao Yao raised an eyebrow and laughed along.
*
After Wen Yining went outside, she looked at her calf and saw a very thin wound, very light, and it didn't even bleed much.
After she finished dealing with the trash, she saw Yao Yao come in from outside, her face very sour: "Go to the West Mountain Hall and collect it again."
I guess it was some angry and difficult customer who deliberately dumped it on me.
Wen Yining lowered her head. "Okay, I'll finish this first."
Yao Yao instinctively wanted to take the work from her hands and urge her to hurry up, but she was afraid of being too hasty, so she held back and impatiently urged, "Go quickly, don't forget."
After finishing her work, Wen Yining pushed the car to the entrance of Xishan Hall and cautiously opened the door to go inside. This time she was prepared. As soon as she entered, her vision suddenly went dark. Accompaniment was playing inside, but no one was singing. It took her a few seconds to see clearly before she slowly walked in.
It was eerily quiet inside. There wasn't a single person in the huge booth. Bottles of liquor were scattered all over the table. If you listened carefully, you could hear a strange sound besides the music, and there was also a strange smell in the air.
She hesitated for a moment, then walked forward with a mixture of doubt and caution.
