Chapter 50: I'll stay with you until you're willing to fall.
Chapter 50
Wen Yining walked over quickly. Li Changjing heard the sound and turned to face her. His expression was gloomy and menacing, and in his hand was her cell phone.
"Childhood sweethearts?" Li Changjing raised his eyes, staring at her face with a gloomy expression, but then a chilling smile appeared on his lips. His tone was cold and detached as he spoke each word clearly. "Confidants who chat until late at night?"
Wen Yining's breath hitched, and she immediately understood. He had read her chat history with Zhang Zhiyang, and during the two days when they chatted the most, Zhang Zhiyang had made such a joke.
She asked herself if there was anything ambiguous in her chat with Zhang Zhiyang, and since they agreed to meet, she had started to intentionally distance herself from him. Zhang Zhiyang hadn't sent her any messages for several days.
"How dare you touch my phone without permission!" Wen Yining's calm voice was tinged with anger. She strode up to him and raised her hand to take back her phone. Suddenly, Li Changjing grabbed her hand tightly. He used too much force and she immediately felt pain in her wrist. Then, she couldn't help but fall into his arms.
Li Changjing caught Wen Yining in his arms, gripped her waist tightly as he stood up, then turned and pressed her into a chair, squeezing his knee between her legs to hold her down and prevent her from getting up. He bent down and stared at her, his hand gripping her phone so tightly that the veins on the back of his hand bulged, his eyes filled with suppressed rage. He then asked her, feigning nonchalance, "What? Wen, do you want me to agree for you?"
Wen Yining went from standing to being trapped in the chair in a humiliating position, her lower back pressed tightly against the backrest, her buttocks pressed hard against his knees, almost painful. She trembled with anger, her snow-white face flushed crimson with humiliation and rage.
She struggled frantically, instinctively trying to snatch the phone from his hand, shouting, "Give me back Li Changjing! What right do you have to look through my chat history!"
Li Changjing pressed down on her shoulders, his knee grinding harder against her tuixin, a glowing screen almost pressed directly against her face.
Wen Yining's gaze swept over subconsciously and immediately saw the confession message Zhang Zhiyang had just sent, in which he called her "Classmate Wen".
With a jolt of surprise, Wen Yining immediately stopped struggling. The cold white light from the screen shone on her face as she sat in her chair, breathing softly as she stared at Zhang Zhiyang's confession message on the screen.
She knew Li Changjing's possessiveness, and the thought of the "X" he drew on the back of the photo made her heart jump. She dared not imagine what he would do to Zhang Zhiyang.
Thinking of this, she had to force herself to calm down and quickly organize her thoughts in her mind, trying to appease his anger.
Li Changjing was so perceptive; how could he not see through her thoughts?
The moment she stopped struggling, it hurt more than if she had stabbed him, bitten him, or cursed him.
The fierceness in his eyes intensified, and the light shone on his snow-white face, making the corners of his narrow eyes slightly red.
He put down his phone and grabbed her by the neck with his hand.
The slight feeling of suffocation on her neck forced Wen Yining to tilt her head back. She looked at Li Changjing's face, which was so close to hers, and clearly saw his extremely cold eyes and the bulging veins on his forehead.
He leaned down again, almost touching her face, his breath hot yet chilling her to the bone. "Wen, why aren't you struggling anymore? Hmm? Why aren't you biting me? What are you afraid of? Are you afraid I'll hurt him?"
Li Changjing appeared calm, but Wen Yining instinctively felt that he was on the verge of going insane. She stared at his face, almost terrified, and her vigilance and fear instantly overwhelmed her anger.
"say!"
Wen Yining immediately whispered, "No."
"If I hadn't pressured you, wouldn't you be with him by now? You say you don't love me anymore, so you've fallen in love with him?"
Li Changjing stared intently at her expression, not missing a single emotion on her face, as if trying to see into her heart to see what her true feelings were for Zhang Zhiyang.
The most important thing now is not to provoke him again and to prevent him from doing anything to Zhang Zhiyang.
Wen Yining suppressed her emotions and said, "No."
After saying that, fearing he wouldn't believe her, she looked up and stared directly into his eyes, "Even without you, I was already planning to reject him anyway."
Li Changjing was confident that he could distinguish between truth and lies. Almost no one could lie to him like that, and she was even less likely to. So he could tell at once that she really didn't love him.
But as he stared at her, he suddenly felt uncertain about himself.
What if this is just a facade she put on for that person?
Li Changjing leaned closer to Wen Yining, his face expressionless, and asked softly with a calm yet puzzled tone, "You two grew up together, have known each other for many years, have so many memories and so many topics to talk about. When you talked late into the night, did you ever, at any moment, feel a slight flutter in your heart for him?"
His eyes were dark, and as he spoke, his suspicious and cold gaze slowly swept over her face.
Wen Yining felt a chill run down her spine. He looked calm, as if he was just wondering, but she had never been so afraid of Li Changjing. At this moment, she felt as if she were standing on the edge of a cliff, and if she said the wrong word or made the wrong expression, she would fall into the abyss and be shattered to pieces.
She could barely speak; her subconscious instincts made her quickly shake her head in denial.
Li Changjing stared at her for a few seconds, and her heart pounded. She tried to look him in the eye and meet his gaze, but his eyes were too deep, and no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't tell whether he believed her or not.
As he looked at her, he suddenly lowered his head and kissed her fair and slender neck. A series of sharp, tingling, and itchy sensations ran through her neck. Wen Yining turned her face away and frowned, but did not dare to struggle.
After a while, he finally lifted his head from her neck. Wen Yining breathed a sigh of relief and saw Li Changjing pick up her phone from the table, take a picture of her, and then release his grip on her and hand the phone to her.
Confused, Wen Yining gripped her phone tightly in her hand, covered her neck with one hand, immediately stood up and took two steps back, her eyes warily scrutinizing his expression and trying to guess his emotions.
Li Changjing's expression seemed to have returned to calm. He lowered his eyes and slowly straightened his clothes, with traces of redness still remaining at the corners of his eyes.
He sat back down in his chair, seemingly believing her words. He tapped his fingers on the table, instructing her on what to do: "Don't reject him, don't reply with a single word."
"Go post this on your WeChat Moments. You can block some people. I've already taken the photos for you."
Wen Yining had a bad feeling. She quickly unlocked her phone, and after swiping to unlock the screen, a photo immediately appeared on the screen. There was no face, only a close-up of her neck. Her collar was messy, revealing part of her neckline skin, and there was an ambiguous red mark on her collarbone.
Under this mirror, anyone with eyes can tell what it is, and considering her appearance, she actually posted it on her WeChat Moments!
Her blood boiled. "Li Changjing, don't go too far!"
Li Changjing's expression was cold, but he curled the corners of his mouth into a fake, refined smile, and his voice left no room for doubt, "Send it."
He was smiling, but Wen Yining noticed his clenched hand and the veins on the back of his hand on the table. She took a breath, gritted her teeth, and looked down to open WeChat. There were a few more messages.
"sit down."
Wen Yining endured the humiliation and sat down in a chair several meters away from him.
Li Changjing didn't even look at her. With a cold face, he lowered his head, rolled up his sleeves, and emphasized, "Sit next to me."
Her fingernails dug deep into her palms. Wen Yining remained motionless, her eyes red as she stared down at the table in front of her, which was bathed in the white light of the lamp. There was not a sound in the large house; the air seemed to have frozen.
After a moment of stalemate, she stood up like a wooden statue, walked over and sat down next to him.
Li Changjing leaned back in his chair, put his hands on the back of the chair behind her and wrapped them around her, tilting his head to stare at her profile, his eyes filled with suspicion and gloom.
She has a somewhat conservative personality and doesn't like to talk about meaningless topics with others, let alone with a man.
Wen Yining opened WeChat again and saw that the sender was her mother, as well as a small group chat with her, Gu Lingling, and Jiang Fengqing.
They assumed she had just arrived and asked her where she was staying, unaware of everything that had happened to her.
Her eyes stung, Wen Yining sniffed, opened her WeChat Moments and started editing. The picture appeared in the editing box: red marks and a disheveled collar.
She started typing, but stopped halfway through, her fingertips trembling.
Li Changjing's gaze was still on her, and all the things he had done for her came flooding back. Wen Yining stared at the screen in silence for a few seconds, then raised her hand and smashed her phone.
"Bang!" The screen shattered into countless tiny fragments in an instant.
Wen Yining raised her head and looked at Li Changjing, her snow-white face filled with a cold and stubborn expression.
She's just not one to hold grudges, has a quiet personality, and is willing to forgive others even when hurt. But the fact that she emerged as the top scorer from among all the candidates in the city, the nights she spent studying relentlessly at her desk, burning the midnight oil and wiping away tears while forcing herself to continue, shows that she is not a weak-willed person.
She may have a gentle temperament, but she has never been a pushover.
She has her pride and her dignity. Does she have to be a spineless coward and rush to him the moment he turns around and tells her he loves her?
She must first have her own personality before she can experience love.
Her voice was cold and calm, "Li Changjing, you think you can just give up like that? If you want to turn back, I have to turn back immediately. I have to do whatever you want me to do. Even raising a dog should have its own opinions, right?"
He knew that although she seemed gentle, she was actually very stubborn, especially when she was with him.
Coincidentally, both of them are stubborn people at heart.
Li Changjing remained unmoved. "If I don't force you, you will never appear in my life again, Wen Yining. I'm happy to indulge you in whatever tantrums you want, but there are some things that are not allowed. This is the bottom line."
He picked up his phone, looked down at it, and sent a message. After finishing, he threw the phone on the table with a "thud," saying, "Smash it until you're willing. I'll stay here with you."
His bodyguards were almost always by his side, keeping a close watch on him. They lived upstairs. Not long after, the door opened and two bodyguards came in carrying a cardboard box. They didn't even glance at the atmosphere in the room before deftly unpacking the box and opening the contents.
Wen Yining looked at the rows of cell phones on the table, which, together with the plates on the table, took up the entire table.
Li Changjing handed her one, his tone almost like he was indulging a spoiled child, "Go ahead and smash it."
He was clearly being unreasonable, but his tone made it sound like she was being childish and he was tolerating her.
Wen Yining was so angry that she gasped for breath, then took the phone and smashed it on the ground, shattering the screen.
The two bodyguards remained expressionless, like two statues, seemingly oblivious to everything around them.
Li Changjing handed her another one, which Wen Yining took again.
Four or five phones were dropped in a row, leaving shattered black screens on the ground.
The two bodyguards' eyelids twitched, they exchanged a glance, and subconsciously tried to peek at Li Changjing's expression, only to see that Li Changjing, who was always fawned over and had an unpredictable personality and never indulged anyone, remained calm and handed her another one.
Wen Yining slowly took it with trembling hands, but as if she had exhausted all her strength, she simply threw it lightly on the ground. The screen lit up from the vibration, but the screen was completely undamaged.
He handed her another one. Wen Yining stared blankly at the scene reflected in the glass. She was standing, he was sitting. Her eyelashes trembled, and her clear black and white eyes were filled with tears. She did not turn around to take it.
She lacked his composure, and she lost again.
Her heart grew colder and colder, and for the first time she felt that she and he were drifting further and further apart.
Li Changjing held it up for a few seconds, then stood up, walked to the pile of phones, found her phone, and personally removed the SIM card and inserted it into the new phone.
"Send it, Ningning."
Wen Yining stiffly turned around and picked up her phone. Tears finally fell. She took a breath, wiped away her tears immediately, and looked up at him. She was so fair, so flawlessly fair, that the redness in her eyes was very obvious. Her clear, black and white eyes held an obvious plea for mercy.
She sniffed and said softly, "Can I send a different photo?"
She knew that if she gave in, he would definitely agree.
Looking at Wen Yining's face, Li Changjing felt a pang in his heart.
The moment she opened her mouth, he himself softened, a sentiment he didn't even want to admit.
He twitched his fingers, but still stared at her coldly without answering. After a moment, he spoke, his voice unconsciously softening, "You just need to let people know I exist."
The two bodyguards listened silently, then subconsciously glanced quickly at Mr. Li, who had his back to them.
The tense atmosphere eased slightly, a rare occurrence.
Wen Yining nodded. After sending the message and blocking her parents and elders, she handed it to Li Changjing, her voice calm as if she had exhausted all her strength, "Take a look."
Li Changjing pushed the phone back.
Wen Yining nodded, her snow-white face expressionless. She slowly stood up, supporting herself on the table, and turned to walk into the bedroom.
Li Changjing turned his head and watched her walk towards their bedroom.
*
Wen Yining lay in bed for a long time before she regained some strength. After an unknown amount of time, she heard a slight noise in the room. The bed beside her sank slightly, and a light fragrance filled the air. A familiar, warm body pressed against her back, and her waist was wrapped around from behind.
She opened her eyes instantly and struggled frantically.
Li Changjing's cold voice came from above, "I won't touch you, but I might not if I do again."
Wen Yining immediately froze, her body tense as she nestled in his arms, warily staring into the darkness before her. She knew he meant what he said, but she still couldn't completely relax.
In the stillness of the night, even the slightest sound is amplified. He held her for a long time, neither of them speaking, but both knew the other was fully awake.
As Wen Yining heard his increasingly heavy breathing and the tightening of his arms around her waist, her heart began to rise.
Li Changjing kissed the back of her neck, then suddenly released her without a word, got out of bed, and went to the bathroom.
The room is very soundproof; with the door closed, you can't hear any sounds from the bathroom while lying in bed.
After a long time, the bathroom door opened, and Li Changjing, his body cold and damp, hugged her again, causing Wen Yining's heart to jump again.
After an unknown amount of time, in the tense silence, Li Changjing suddenly rolled over and pinned her down, tightly gripping her wrists, his blurry silhouette looming above her.
Wen Yining struggled in terror.
"I won't do anything to him. Tell me the truth, Wen Yining, do you like him or not?"
Wen Yining was taken aback. She hadn't expected that even though so many novels had passed, he would still ask her this question again.
He still didn't believe it.
She didn't answer immediately; she no longer had the strength to confront him directly. She pondered in her mind how to answer in a way that would completely convince him and eliminate this potential threat.
Li Changjing waited for her answer, his vision completely black, each second feeling incredibly long and agonizing. He waited for a long time in the darkness, but she remained silent.
In her silence, Li Changjing suddenly released her, hugged her tightly, and pulled her into his arms. "Don't say anything."
