Chapter 56 Li Changjing's Mother
Chapter 56
"Miss Wen."
"Are you suggesting I go down and fetch you?"
Wen Yining looked up. By the second-floor railing, Li Changjing was looking at her coldly with his head down, without love, hate, or warmth, as if he were looking at a stranger.
She looked away, lowered her eyes, stood up and went upstairs. When she reached the second floor, she looked up and saw Li Changjing leaning against the wooden railing, lighting a cigarette with his head down.
He held a cigarette between his fingers, and when she walked past, he didn't even glance at her, leaving her only with a cold profile.
"Will that matter... have any impact on you...?"
Smoke filled the air. Li Changjing looked at the opposite wall and smiled, but there was no smile in his eyes. "Just like you said, I'm a member of the Li family. How could that be?"
So you think you can stab him twice without any restraint?
Wen Yining looked away, unsure whether he was genuinely alright or deliberately being sarcastic.
However, he knew exactly what she said during the many days she was imprisoned.
She smiled and said, "Do you hate me to death?"
Li Changjing just gave a cryptic laugh, it was unclear whether he was mocking her or something else. Wen Yining waited for a while, but he didn't say another word, and didn't even glance at her from beginning to end.
Wen Yining smiled again. The two were back to back, and Li Changjing didn't see her pale expression. "This is how I feel about you."
As she spoke, Wen Yining braced herself against the railing, preparing to jump down, "Let me jump down from here to vent your anger."
Li Changjing's pupils constricted. He threw away his cigarette and turned around quickly to grab her. She didn't mean to scare him. If he had been any later, she would have really fallen over the railing.
The long-standing indifference was shattered. Li Changjing half-dragged, half-carried her and threw her hard onto the bed. Just as Wen Yining was about to get up, Li Changjing grabbed her neck and shoved her back into the bed.
His temples were bulging with veins, his face contorted with malice. "Wen Yining, are you addicted to suicide?"
Wen Yining did not struggle, but looked at him, her chest heaving violently.
His gaze fell on the gauze on her forehead. Li Changjing let go of her, got off her, and stood up.
He gave a cold laugh. "I was too soft-hearted towards you before, making threats that didn't really hurt. This is the last time. From now on, however you commit suicide, I'll use that same tactics on your parents."
Li Changjing reached out his hand, "You can try it now."
Wen Yining sat up abruptly, "What did you do to my parents?!"
Li Changjing looked at her, then suddenly raised his hand and slowly and methodically unbuttoned his shirt, taking it off one button at a time, a smirk playing on his lips. "Father-in-law and mother-in-law, what could I possibly do to them?"
Wen Yining looked at him, fear rising in her heart. She gripped the bedsheets with both hands, but still couldn't help but retort, "Do your family members know you have parents-in-law?"
Li Changjing raised an eyebrow and chuckled, as if looking at a child with the same emotion he would an adult, his tone filled with感慨 and gratification, "Ningning, you've really grown up. The first time I met you, you were such a small little girl, soft, timid and cowardly, you wouldn't even dare to scold someone without making them angry. Now you're like this, you've really grown up. Is it because the school taught you well, or because you know I can't do anything to you?"
Wen Yining looked at him coldly, "Don't threaten me with your family. You can take revenge on me however you want."
He leaned down and pressed his burning heat against her neck. Wen Yining gritted her teeth and didn't struggle. Soon, her few clothes were carelessly thrown to the ground.
He went straight in, and Wen Yining winced and curled up in pain.
His hot breath was hot and soft in my ear. "His mouth is hard, but his body is soft."
Despite the pain, Wen Yining couldn't help but retort, "You don't mean you don't want to see me, but your body says otherwise."
Li Changjing chuckled, pulled her up, and forced her to look. The room was brightly lit, and she could see everything clearly. Wen Yining's face turned red and then white, and she closed her eyes, gritting her teeth and remaining silent.
He insisted that she speak, and Wen Yining gritted her teeth and endured it, but finally surrendered.
When Wen Yining woke up the next day, the room was empty and she was covered in a mess. She couldn't even remember if Li Changjing had been there the night before.
She struggled to get out of bed and put on her clothes to clean herself.
"You're awake."
The sudden female voice startled Wen Yining. She instinctively covered herself with the blanket and looked over in astonishment to see a strange woman who looked to be in her thirties and clearly had martial arts skills walking towards her from the sofa outside the bedroom.
"Hello Miss Wen, from today onwards I will be following you closely. Don't try to resist, you are no match for me."
Wen Yining was moved to another place and continued to be locked up. She used to be watched by one person in shifts, but now there were two people watching her. The girl who looked very tough followed her closely 24 hours a day, even when she went to the toilet or changed clothes, and only left when Li Changjing came back.
The girl told her, "I need to prevent you from doing anything suicidal. If you even have the slightest intention to do so, our situation will become very bad."
Li Changjing returned very late. He would talk to the bodyguard with a smile, looking the same as before, with a gentle smile and handsome face. But apart from touching her when he came back at night, he did not have any communication or contact with her, and he would not stay in the same room with her afterward.
A few days later, Wen Yining got her phone back. Surprisingly, everything was calm. The teacher had ignored her long-standing pretense. Although she hadn't appeared for a long time, she had been sending messages to her parents every few days in their chat history.
It's obvious what happened without even thinking about it.
Only Gu Lingling and Jiang Fengqing realized something was wrong when they learned that she was being coerced by Li Changjing, and they desperately tried to contact her.
She contacted them and reassured them in a few words.
Gu Lingling suddenly lowered her voice, "Wenwen, is it convenient for you to talk?"
Wen Yining glanced at the two people guarding her standing two meters away. "What's wrong?"
“While you were away, the friend who called you last time called me several times. He seemed very anxious and told me to tell him immediately if I had any news about you.”
"Give me his contact information."
Wen Yining knew that everything she did would reach Li Changjing. She ignored the two people in front of her and called directly. The other party only answered when she was about to hang up.
Fang Qi's voice was urgent, "Ningning! How are you? Where are you now?"
"I just want to know how that matter is going?"
Fang Qi gave a wry smile that was almost a sigh, "Li Changjing is one step ahead. We've all been fooled. The list he gave us was half true and half false. That makes sense. He must have been alert when he received the news of the investigation into Lin Juemin. I just didn't expect him to be so accurate."
really.
Wen Yining felt a chill run through her body.
She said, "How could Li Changjing be the kind of person who'd rather die than be so love-struck?"
"Aren't you lying to me too?"
The name Li Quanguo carries too much weight. She believed that her grandfather was half the sky and that the sky wouldn't fall down, so she naturally believed Fang Qi's words.
That's Li Quanguo. If something happens to Li Quanguo's grandson in this matter, should she say the world is innocent, or is the world about to change?
It's understandable that she doesn't blame Fang Qi for lying to her.
Fang Qi remained silent for a long time. "I'm sorry, I did lie to you. I know it's dangerous for you, but it's true that I said I would do my best to protect you. I had already arranged everything. I would send you away immediately before the Li family found out! It's just that Li Changjing acted too quickly and hid you in advance. Now that Li Changjing gave you a fake one, his family won't investigate further and won't find you. They will just continue to treat you as an ordinary mistress of Li Changjing."
"But Ningning, Li Changjing won't let you get away with this!"
What is Fang Qi saying?
Wen Yining was taken aback. She didn't rush to ask him what he was talking about. She thought about Fang Qi's words for a moment and then calmly followed up with her question: "But you still lied to me that Li Changjing would be fine."
This was the first time she had heard Fang Qi's angry voice. "Where did I lie to you about this? Let me tell you this: as long as he does things for Chinese people and not foreigners, even if his grandfather is still in office, and his parents and uncles are still around, even if his grandfather retires, this little thing won't affect him at all! Instead of worrying about him, you should think about yourself and how Li Changjing will treat you next! Do you think he will let you off the hook?"
So her judgment was correct.
For so long, Wen Yining had been suppressing her emotions and was unwilling to recall what she had done. She thought about Fang Qi's words and understood. "So Li Changjing is fine now, and his family has known about me for a long time. It's just that I'm too insignificant, so they don't even think it's necessary to mention me. They even casually arranged for Li Changjing to go on blind dates because they think I'm insignificant and pose no threat. If the list Li Changjing gave me is real, things will blow up. Although his family will suppress the matter, they will definitely continue to investigate. Even if you conceal my actions, they will still find out about me and think that I pose a threat and might do something to me, right?"
She always thought his family was unaware of her existence, but it turns out they knew all along, they just didn't care.
Fang Qi was also stunned for a moment, then quickly realized that Wen Yining was using his concern to get information out of him. He remained silent for a long time, then gave a bitter smile. Since things had come to this point, there was no need to bring it up again.
Her mind went blank for a moment. Wen Yining opened her mouth, but no sound came out at first. "No need, don't call again. I'm no longer of any use to you." Wen Yining interrupted Fang Qi softly before he could finish speaking, then hung up the phone, turned off her phone, and walked past the two people with different expressions as if they were invisible. She walked back to the bedroom like a ghost and buried herself in the blankets.
The girl who was with her also went into the bedroom and watched her every move from a distance.
That evening, he didn't mention Fang Qi, but Wen Yining knew that every word she said would be relayed to him verbatim.
Even though he loathed her, Li Changjing would torment her every day when he came home; it was a mystery where he got the energy.
But Li Changjing never kissed her. The two were always at odds, but tonight he was unusually silent. Wen Yining didn't speak to him either. After it was over, he got up and went to another room.
Wen Yining lay on the bed, her body a mess, and raised her hand to cover her eyes.
The next morning, Wen Yining got up early, dressed and went out. Sure enough, Li Changjing was still there, standing in front of the dressing mirror, looking down and fastening his wristwatch.
Wen Yining stopped behind him and asked, "When can I go back to school?"
Li Changjing ignored her, fastened his watch strap, turned around and walked past her. Wen Yining subconsciously reached out to grab his arm, as if she was extremely annoyed. Li Changjing dodged her hand and turned back to give her a cold look.
His gaze froze her blood. Wen Yining stood there, watching his figure disappear, and it took her a long time to come back to her senses.
Aside from not being allowed to go out, Wen Yining was not restricted from using any electronic devices, and she forced herself to focus on catching up on the lessons she had missed.
The magnolias outside were beginning to bloom, and Wen Yining was studying in the living room on the second floor.
There was a sudden noise outside, and she turned her head to look.
The eaves and trees obscured the view, making it difficult to see clearly. All that could be seen were several capable-looking women in work clothes standing at the door with two other people, who were stopped by the bodyguards at the entrance.
"You actually won't let me in?" Liu Lixiu said angrily, her face darkening. "I am the secretary-general of Minister Zhou Yu!"
"It's none of our business; we just know we have to abide by the contract." The bodyguard nonchalantly blocked the door shut.
"You're blocking Minister Zhou's house! I was sent here by Minister Zhou, get out of my way!"
"I don't know him. He's not on the contract." The bodyguard didn't even glance at her.
Wen Yining didn't open the window, so she couldn't see or hear what was being said outside. She assumed it was the property management, glanced at them a few times, and then looked away.
Liu Lixiu hadn't been treated this coldly in years. She had come today to deal with that young girl, but Zhou Yu didn't take it seriously at all. He had intended to send anyone, but in the end, he sent her, his trusted confidante. However, she never expected that she, the dignified secretary-general, would be stopped at the door by several bodyguards. Not only could she not resolve the issue, she couldn't even get inside!
"Fine!" Liu Lixiu's years of self-control were almost over. She got into the car in a huff. "In that case, you can wait for Minister Zhou to come in person."
*
The red flag fluttered high in the wind.
In the quiet, brightly lit office, a bell suddenly rang.
Li Changjing glanced at the screen, closed the document in his hand, picked up his phone, took off his glasses, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I have already sent you the surveillance footage."
"No need, just tell me directly."
It was obvious who was coming. Everyone around Minister Zhou had a bad temper, just like her, and that Secretary Liu was even related to Zhou Yu.
The bodyguard reported everything, saying, "Before she left, she said Minister Zhou would come in person."
Li Changjing stopped moving and opened his eyes.
"Ignore it, keep an eye on it."
"yes."
It quieted down.
"How is she?"
The bodyguard knew who "she" was. "Miss Wen has been upstairs the whole time and hasn't come down, so we didn't see her."
"knew."
*
Wen Yining forced herself to get into the zone, and after an unknown amount of time, she heard noises outside again.
Two cars with red flags stopped at the entrance. Liu Lixiu, who had returned, quickly got out of the car and respectfully opened the back door. A woman with a capable and imposing presence, exuding dignity and nobility, stepped out of the car.
Zhou Yu got out of the car, looked at the bodyguards inside the gate and in the courtyard, and nodded. "Good. Even my secretary-general can't get through this gate. He hasn't even called me once yet. Li Zeqing has quite the airs."
The bodyguards exchanged glances, and one of them immediately turned away discreetly.
"Stop right there! Let him hit you right here! I want to hear what he has to say!"
The man stopped instinctively, exchanged a glance, and under Zhou Yu's imposing aura, he still hesitated before dialing the number.
Zhou Yu stepped inside, and the others tentatively moved their feet, but none of them dared to reach out and stop him.
Under Zhou Yu's gaze, the person making the call held the phone stiffly, but no one answered the call before it automatically ended.
"lead the way."
Zhou Yu didn't waste any words and went straight in.
Wen Yining saw the scene in the courtyard from upstairs and vaguely guessed the identity of the person who came. Whether it was because she was too shocked by the suddenness or because of Fang Qi's words yesterday, she was not nervous at all for a moment.
She had thought about what it would be like if she accidentally ran into Li Changjing's mother one day, and the thought made her feel complicated and nervous.
Given her current relationship with Li Changjing, what's there to be nervous about?
Besides, he has no future with her, and his family looks down on her, so why bother? You get 30 million; leave my son.
But does this also mean that she can leave?
Soon, footsteps could be heard at the bottom of the stairs.
Wen Yining turned her head and saw a bodyguard walking cautiously ahead to lead the way. Behind her was a very dignified and noble middle-aged woman with exceptionally fair skin. It seemed that Li Changjing inherited this trait from her. Because of her good maintenance, she looked very young, but she had a very strong aura. Just as Li Changjing had once described to her, she looked like a young lady from a wealthy family who had never been mistreated and had only ever caused mistreatment to others.
Wen Yining looked away and stood up.
Even before they got close, that powerful, unapproachable aura emanated from them along with the sound of high heels.
Zhou Yu sat down on the sofa in the main seat. Her aura was not like that of someone who hadn't been there for many years. Just sitting there, she exuded the presence of the lady of the house. Her pressure was an unconscious, superior, and unapproachable pressure, completely different from the seemingly gentle but unfathomable pressure emanating from Li Changjing.
After she sat down, she glanced at Wen Yining. Perhaps because she was used to being in a superior position, even though her attitude wasn't overbearing, she still gave off an uncomfortable aura.
Wen Yining looked directly into her eyes calmly, then bowed slightly and said, "Hello."
Zhou Yu did not tell her to sit down.
Everyone else was cleared downstairs, leaving only the two of them and Zhou Yu's secretary on the second floor.
Zhou Yu then spoke, "It's not easy to see you. Even my secretary and his men couldn't get in."
Wen Yining was taken aback.
"His wedding is scheduled for the end of the year, and there can't be any mistakes before then."
As expected of a decisive and efficient businesswoman, she got straight to the point without uttering a single unnecessary word.
Despite being prepared, Wen Yining's heart still clenched. She nodded, wanting to say something, but her throat was so tight that she couldn't utter a single word.
"So Miss Wen, you can make any conditions you want, and I will agree to them all. You must also abide by them and not have any further dealings with him."
Wen Yining understood. Sure enough, TV dramas are all true. Why do they always think that it must be the woman who is clinging to their son?
She bowed slightly and nodded again, then straightened up, her tone calm but almost helpless, "I have no conditions, I agree to everything. Why don't you try to persuade Li Zeqing to let me go?"
Zhou Yu's cold and authoritative gaze swept across her face.
Liu Lixiu, who was standing next to her, frowned. "What do you mean by this!"
Wen Yining was not afraid of her cold face at all. Her attitude was still that of a junior to an elder. In a calm voice, she told her clearly, "You have seen everything in front of you. After your son broke up with me, he used my family to threaten me, forcing me to be with him. He also forced me to live with him and locked me up here, not allowing me to go to school."
Zhou Yu's face grew increasingly grim.
"But you don't need to worry. He knows what's important. He wouldn't let me ruin his future. If you ask, he will definitely break up with me."
"Did Li Zeqing teach you to say this? Or are you just putting all the blame on him?"
Wen Yining was speechless. She never expected that someone could think of another person in this way. Suddenly, she remembered Li Changjing saying in a very calm and inexplicable tone that his mother was difficult to communicate with.
“Everything I’ve said is the truth. Why don’t you take me away now?”
"Bang!"
Suddenly, there was a screeching sound of brakes outside, followed by a loud screeching sound, and then a huge crash.
Wen Yining turned to look out the window and saw the bodyguards in the courtyard running frantically toward the door.
"Minister, the young master is back."
