Chapter 60 I Don't Want to Go

Chapter 60 I Don't Want to Go

Chapter 60

It's getting hotter every day; even the evening breeze carries the heat of summer. The sky, which used to be dark long ago, is still faintly lit at seven o'clock.

Wen Yining got out of the car with a tired look on her face. She walked through the grass where summer insects were chirping and came in from outside. After walking a short distance, her forehead was already faintly sweating.

Spring that year was exceptionally short, fleeting away before I could even savor it. All I can recall is the piercing feeling of love and hate intertwined, and the biting cold wind blowing past my ears.

Perhaps because she has been behaving too well lately, many of her bodyguards have been dismissed, and no one is constantly following her to prevent her from committing suicide.

Wen Yining was climbing the stairs when she suddenly heard a crisp "clatter" from the second floor, like the sound of a plate of jade beads falling.

She walked a few steps up and saw that next to a row of rosewood cabinets by the window, one drawer was open, a box had fallen to the ground, and red badges were scattered all over the floor. Li Changjing knelt down and picked them up.

These are all from Li Changjing's clothes. He has a lot of these things at home, but he's a clean freak and can't stand mess, so he had the cleaning lady who comes regularly collect them and put them in the closet. It looks like he accidentally knocked them over while looking for something.

She suddenly realized that Li Changjing had been very free lately. He used to be so busy that he was always on the go, and sometimes he would be nowhere to be seen on Saturdays and Sundays. But now he was almost always there whenever she came back. It was strange.

Li Changjing was picking things up quite carefully and didn't notice her going upstairs. Wen Yining glanced at him and then looked away. Although Li Changjing didn't seem to hate her as much as before, and their conversations weren't as tense as they used to be, they were still being sarcastic. To avoid talking to him, Wen Yining quickly took the opportunity to quietly go back to her room.

Li Changjing picked up a badge, stared at the red and gold badge in his palm for a long time, gently rubbed it with his fingers, looked at it for a few more seconds, then put the badge into the box. He then picked up all the things on the ground that were once insignificant but are now gone forever, put them into the box, closed the lid, walked to the table, and threw the box and the badge into the trash can.

Wen Yining was busy every day and only went home on Saturdays and Sundays. It wasn't until the holiday was approaching that she realized something was wrong.

After returning from school, she was so tired that she didn't even close the curtains before collapsing onto the bed and falling into a deep sleep. When she woke up, the sky outside the window had darkened, turning into a clean and gentle blue hue, with the lush branches and leaves of the magnolia tree in the courtyard casting shadows on the outside.

The entire second floor was dark and quiet. Wen Yining rubbed her eyes sleepily as she went downstairs. When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she could faintly hear the sound of a television on the first floor. She went down and saw Li Changjing sitting on the sofa, twirling a pen in his hand, staring at the television in front of him. The screen was showing the news broadcast.

He turned the volume up very low, and the faint chirping of cicadas could be heard coming from the courtyard.

The TV was practically just for decoration; Wen Yining had almost forgotten it even existed. How could Li Changjing watch TV, and even watch the news broadcast?

Does he even need to look?

As if hearing footsteps, Li Changjing turned to look at her, stopped twirling his pen, picked up the remote and turned off the TV. The screen went dark, and a few seconds later the TV was off.

Wen Yining couldn't help but take the initiative to speak to him properly, her tone still flat, "Why have you been so free lately?"

"recuperate."

Her heart skipped a beat, and Wen Yining instinctively raised her voice to ask, "What illness?"

Li Changjing was holding his phone and seemed to be sending a message. Wen Yining looked him up and down; he seemed perfectly normal.

Li Changjing turned to look at her. "Miss Wen is very concerned?"

"You want me to care about you?"

Li Changjing looked away and continued texting, "My leg isn't feeling well."

Wen Yining couldn't help but look at his leg again, but she didn't notice anything. She did vaguely smell the ointment a while ago, but that was a long time ago.

"Hasn't this illness been going on for a long time?"

I wonder if they're plotting something again.

After sending the message, Li Changjing put down his phone, turned on the remote control, looked at the TV, and said, "Indefinite recuperation."

The aunt received the message, came out of her room, and went into the kitchen.

Indefinitely?

Wen Yining was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"It means I'm not going; I'm staying home to recover."

Wen Yining felt a little confused. Her mind went blank. She seemed to understand the meaning of his words, but she didn't quite understand his attitude. He was even changing the channel.

Forgetting her relationship with him, she took two steps forward and subconsciously asked, "Why?"

Li Changjing paused in his channel-changing motion. This time slot was filled with news, and the screen showed the presenter delivering today's news in a professional and clear manner. Li Changjing didn't look at her; he stared at the television screen for a long time without saying a word.

Wen Yining stared wide-eyed at his profile, waiting for his answer.

After a moment of silence, Li Changjing said, "I don't want to go."

He used to always act out his feelings as if they were genuine, he loved to say sweet words to her and flirt with her, but he has never given so much in his life. Those momentous moments, those painful struggles, all he could say was a light, dismissive statement: "I don't want to go anymore."

Wen Yining was completely stunned.

Don't want to go anymore?

Li Changjing doesn't want to go anymore? He's not going to pursue the rights he loves most?

Impossible! How could that be?

You must have made a mistake.

Wen Yining stared blankly at Li Changjing, "Why?"

Li Changjing wiped the water off his hands. "Why are there so many questions?"

During the meal, Wen Yining was still in a daze, her mind filled with disbelief.

It's like the sun has risen in the west!

On the other hand, he, the person involved, was incredibly calm.

While sleeping, Wen Yining figured it out. She guessed that Li Changjing was up to some kind of scheme again. How could he suddenly say he didn't want to go? Even if he was crazy and didn't want to go, his family would never agree.

Having figured this out, Wen Yining breathed a sigh of relief and closed her eyes.

She wasn't going to worry about it.

*

Everyone thought that Li Changjing couldn't last a month like this, but he actually managed to stay quiet for two months. He was patient, but the others were getting impatient.

His family members tried to reason with him countless times, but he remained unmoved.

Everyone knows that looking for Wen Yining is useless; the problem lies with Li Changjing, and no one goes to her.

Wen Yining had just returned to her dorm and picked up her cup to take a sip of water when her phone rang. It was a classmate. "Wen Yining, your boyfriend is waiting for you outside the dorm. Come down quickly! Your boyfriend is quite handsome!"

My heart skipped a beat. Why did Li Changjing suddenly come?

After hanging up the phone, she glanced at the screen and realized he hadn't called her back.

After putting down her cup, Wen Yining quickly ran to the elevator. She rushed downstairs and ran outside breathlessly. Li Changjing wasn't there, but she immediately spotted an eye-catching and flamboyant sports car parked outside. People passing by couldn't help but take a second look at this car that suddenly appeared out of place on campus.

Such a high profile, it can't be Li Changjing.

Wen Yining let out a breath, feeling both relieved and tense.

That must be Fang Qi. Why is he here again, and in broad daylight no less?

Wen Yining thought for a moment, then frowned and walked over. As soon as she got close, the car door opened and a boy with an unfamiliar face, wearing sunglasses, who looked a little older than her and had the air of a pampered young master, got out. He took off his sunglasses and looked her up and down.

Wen Yining paused in her steps.

I don't know them at all...

The boy didn't seem to know her either.

Perhaps because she seemed to have a very clear goal, having already walked up to the car, the boy assumed she had something to do and got out.

Awkward……

Wen Yining turned and left, glancing around to look for Li Changjing, while taking out her phone from her pocket to call him.

"Hey, you must be Wen Yining?"

Wen Yining turned her head in confusion and gave the boy a strange look. The boy's eyes were bright as he looked at her, still scrutinizing her. Although he didn't seem to have any ill intentions, his gaze wasn't like that of someone looking at an ordinary human, but rather like that of someone looking at some strange and interesting alien.

Wen Yining shook her head. "I'm not her, are you?"

The boy was taken aback, took out his phone, looked at her face again, and chuckled, "Stop pretending, isn't this you?!"

As he spoke, he turned his phone screen towards her, displaying a one-inch photo of her, which looked like it had been taken from some kind of material.

Wen Yining's heart skipped a beat. She looked him up and down warily again, making sure she had never seen him before. "How do you have my picture?"

The boy put his phone away, a smug smile playing on his lips. His expression had a slightly naive and innocent quality, like a smug little boy.

Some passersby recognized Wen Yining, while others did not. They all looked at her and the boy with curiosity, after all, the car was too conspicuous.

"Then you don't need to worry about it."

The boy started staring at her from head to toe again. Just as Wen Yining was about to speak, he suddenly burst into laughter without warning, which startled Wen Yining.

He chuckled twice and then shut up. He started looking at her again, glanced at her a couple of times, and then burst into laughter again. Wen Yining could hear the smugness, pride, and gloating in his voice.

The laughing passersby all turned to look at them.

Wen Yining: "???………………"

She nodded. "If you have nothing else to do, I'll head back." With that, she turned and left.

In the past, she would have been constantly anxious and kept asking who the other person was, whether they were investigating her, and what their purpose was. But after spending so much time with Li Changjing, she had learned his tricks.

Sure enough, as soon as she turned around, the boy called out to her and said confidently, "I am Li Zeyuan."

This name...

Wen Yining paused, turned around, and Li Zeyuan nodded to her reservedly, then said nothing more, as if he were some important celebrity and she naturally knew him.

Wen Yining guessed who he was, and quickly connected his face and identity with the naked person she had seen lying unconscious on the ground a few years ago while she was working part-time.

She quickly guessed his intentions in her mind, but shook her head calmly, saying, "I don't know him."

Li Zeyuan's expression froze. "I'm Li Zeqing, Li Changjing's younger brother. Hasn't he mentioned me to you?"

"No."

I have said it, but it wasn't anything nice.

Li Zeyuan stared at Wen Yining in disbelief, trying to see if she was lying on her face.

But the girl in front of him had clear, calm eyes and a composed expression. She seemed like a simple, innocent girl who wouldn't lie, the kind who would cry for a long time if punched, completely different from a heartless person like Li Changjing.

Li Zeyuan was devastated, gritting his teeth, "Li Zeqing! Just as I thought!"

It's true what they say, like father, like son, each different from the last. Li Changjing is like that, but his cousin is like this? Wen Yining interrupted him, "So, you're here for..."

Li Zeyuan looked up at Wen Yining. He was just too curious about how someone could be so infatuated with Li Changjing. She looked pure and beautiful in the photos, and he was determined to see her in person. When he finally met her, she was still pure, even more beautiful than in the photos. But they had seen plenty of beautiful girls, and many had even tried to woo them. Beauty alone could never have made Li Changjing do this.

Although his abilities were average, he was still quite knowledgeable. He could tell at a glance that she was genuinely innocent, with a soft yet resilient strength. She was definitely not the type to play with men, and in fact, she seemed less adept than him.

It was inevitable to feel a little disappointed at first.

A man like Li Changjing was actually captivated by such a naive and unscrupulous girl, and she seemed so different from him—one a cunning and ruthless black-hearted man, the other plain and unassuming.

But then Li Zeyuan burst out laughing; it's true that every creature has its nemesis.

Li Zeyuan smiled, revealing two dimples on his face, took out his phone, and said eagerly, "Second sister-in-law, let's add each other on WeChat."

Wen Yining's expression darkened, and she pursed her lips. "You've got the wrong name. Your second sister-in-law should be surnamed Peng, not me."

Li Zeyuan was stunned, his mind racing for a moment, then he looked at Wen Yining's expression in disbelief, "No... you didn't know?"

Wen Yining was also taken aback, looking at his reaction with a puzzled expression, "Know what?"

No way?

Li Zeyuan blinked. "Li Changjing didn't tell you?"

Wen Yining was even more confused. "What did you say?"

Li Zeyuan opened his mouth wide in disbelief and said, "Li Changjing dared to contradict my grandfather to your face for your sake, saying that he would only marry you. He was forced to kneel all night as punishment and was even dismissed from his post by my grandfather."

Wen Yining's brain went blank.
