Chapter 95 The Situation of the Cat People

In a dilapidated, ravaged city, Chang Wei saw a shocking scene. Countless cat-like zombies wandered the streets, their bodies tattered, their clothes ragged, their faces twisted and rotten. Their eyes were empty and terrifying, devoid of life, as if their souls had been untethered.

The city's buildings have been abandoned for years, their walls mottled and tilted, their windows broken, and the streets littered with tattered waste and debris. Thick dark clouds hung in the gloomy sky, casting a dark haze over the city, adding a sense of heaviness and desolation to the entire scene.

The zombies wandered aimlessly in the city, occasionally uttering low and hoarse groans that made people shudder, as if they were craving for fresh flesh and blood.

Their postures twisted, their gaits staggered, as if they were endlessly pursuing some unattainable goal. Occasionally, brief clashes would ensue between them, as they fought over and devoured the remaining rotting flesh that lay like mud on the ground. This utterly disgusting scene only served to highlight the desolation and horror of this world.

Honestly, Chang Wei felt a bit uncomfortable when he first saw this chilling scene. It was even worse than what he'd seen in movies and TV series like The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, and Night of the Living Dead!

Whether you are a brave man who has overcome fear or an ordinary person with a big heart, you will feel terrified when you come to this world of biochemical apocalypse.

The zombies' existence seems to mock life, while the ruins of the city bear witness to a once prosperous past. Add to that the countless mutated behemoths that infest the world, and it's clear how difficult the situation will be for the cats on this planet.

While Chang Wei continued to watch the surveillance footage sent back by the "Griffin", he asked its captain questions.

"Captain, how is your research on this virus going? How long will it take to develop a vaccine and antidote?"

The captain of the "Griffin" is a black scientist. He not only serves as the captain, but also presides over various scientific research projects on the spacecraft.

He replied respectfully on the communication screen, "Sir, our research on this virus has reached 80% and the genetic sequencing is almost complete!"

"We found that this virus is very similar to the rabies virus. Apart from a few key protein molecules that have been artificially replaced and modified, the entire genetic code is almost identical to that of the rabies virus."

"However, unlike common rabies, this virus is more contagious and more rapidly, and has an extremely high mortality rate. It damages and erodes the brain of the organism, causing it to become extremely crazy and violent. Because brain function is damaged, the body's regulatory functions and muscle limiters are also lifted."

"They will become immensely powerful and tireless, and their bodies may undergo various mutations and growths. Furthermore, as their brains' regulatory functions cease to function, they will constantly experience an uncontrollable and insatiable hunger. To this end, they will constantly seek out ways to consume fresh flesh and blood!"

"Based on the samples we captured and conducted detailed anatomical studies, we found that even after the organism had died and begun to decay, the virus still maintained a relatively weak bioelectrical signal in the organism's brain."

"This weak bioelectrical signal allows organisms to maintain certain functions and activities even after death, like a zombie, and to perform abnormal movements. Once this weak bioelectrical signal is cut off, their movements will cease. Therefore, when facing them, the most direct and simple way is to shoot them in the head and sever the nerves in their necks."

"Currently, this virus is still mutating. We've collected samples from all over the world and discovered over 2,300 variants. The vast majority of these variants originate from gigantic mutant creatures. For example: giant snails with hundreds of millions of teeth and countless tentacles, tunnel worms that can sense even the slightest vibrations in the ground and prey on them, flying centipedes with six pairs of wings, giant octopuses with nine eyes, crustaceans and animals as tall as buildings, and so on..."

"They are bizarre, cruel, and bloodthirsty, with an extremely strong desire for food. Their sheer numbers and destructive power make them incredibly dangerous to ordinary infantry."

Chang Wei listened carefully and felt that the virus was indeed terrible. Fortunately, he had been cautious and did not send troops to land on the planet. Otherwise, if someone was infected, or if they accidentally brought the virus back to the fleet and spread it, it would be a disaster!

Chang Wei looked at the captain of the "Griffin" and continued to ask.

"Are you able to crack it now?"

The captain of the Griffin shook his head and replied.

"We are confident that we can crack the genetic code of a single variant virus in a short period of time. However, this is only a temporary solution and not a fundamental solution!"

"If we can't address this virus's genetic origin, we won't be able to completely end the biochemical crisis on this planet. It mutates so rapidly, with new variants emerging every moment. Even if a vaccine or antidote were developed now, they would quickly lose their effectiveness."

"But the good news is that our surveillance has revealed that among the remaining feline survivors on this planet, there's a white female cat named Ellie who has developed antibodies to the original virus. She's currently being escorted by a tabby male cat named Joel to a virus lab called Firefly, where they'll be conducting surgery and research on her to create a cure that will save the world."
