Wangdu, Zhangjia.
When Qin Luo entered the inner city, the guards on both sides did not stop him. Festive red lanterns were hung outside the gates of various families, and there was laughter and cheerful chatter in the courtyards.
The Zhang family's house was the only one with its doors closed. The area outside was deserted, without even a lantern, making it seem rather desolate.
Qin Luo arrived at the Zhang family's gate and knocked for a long time before footsteps came from inside the courtyard.
Who is it?
"Longhu Temple, Qin Luo."
The young man pushed open the door and saw Qin Luo. He couldn't help but show a frightened expression. "Daoist Master, my grandfather is mentally unstable and just spoke offensively. Please forgive him."
The young man thought Qin Luo had come to interrogate him, so he knelt down in front of Qin Luo, but was helped up by a gentle breeze.
Qin Luo smiled kindly. "I know a little about medicine. I'm here to help your grandfather get treatment."
"What does the Taoist priest want?"
"I don't want anything."
The young man breathed a sigh of relief, but he was not happy. "Taoist Master, please come in quickly."
When Qin Luo entered the Zhang family, he sensed a strange aura. The young man bowed and said, "Daoist, my name is Zhang Shouyi. Many senior experts in the city have examined my grandfather, but none of them have any clues."
Zhang Shouyi knew Qin Luo meant well, but he didn't believe he could cure Zhang Youwei's illness.
Qin Luo noticed strands of black silk inside the Zhang family compound. It would be difficult to detect without a closer look inside. The source of these black silk strands was deep within the Zhang family compound.
"Could you take me to see that courtyard?"
Qin Luo pointed to the courtyard deep inside the Zhang family's house.
Zhang Shouyi was somewhat surprised. "Daoist, that is my Zhang family ancestral hall. Outsiders are not allowed to enter."
Qin Luo stared in the direction of the Zhang family ancestral hall, his eyes narrowing slightly. "If the evil spirits inside cannot be removed, the Zhang family will probably not be far from being wiped out."
Zhang Shouyi was shocked, but he quickly calmed down. "Daoist Master, I am not qualified to bring outsiders to the ancestral hall. Only my grandfather is qualified to make the decision."
"Don't you have any other elders in your family?"
Zhang Shouyi said sadly, "My father died early, my mother went back to her parents' home, and my great-grandmother passed away last winter. Now, only my grandfather and I are left in the Zhang family."
Qin Luo frowned slightly. His master had mentioned his grandmother during the New Year, who was very likely Zhang Shouyi's great-grandmother. "Is there anyone in the Zhang family named Zhang Lin?"
"No."
Zhang Shouyi shook his head.
Qin Luo heard from Wan'er that the Zhang family was doing well, but there was no one in the huge courtyard. He asked softly, "Why doesn't the Zhang family have any maids?"
Zhang Shouyi said self-deprecatingly, "The people of the capital all say that our Zhang family is cursed. Ordinary people dare not come to the Zhang family. We are also afraid that innocent people are really cursed."
"I see."
Qin Luo followed Zhang Shouyi to the courtyard where Zhang Youwei lived. The walls of the courtyard were covered with paintings depicting the ruined capital and countless lives lost in pools of blood.
Zhang Shouyi said with a wry smile, "After my grandfather fell ill, he liked to talk nonsense all the time, saying things like the sky was falling and people were going to die. He often drew strange things."
Qin Luo found the scene somewhat realistic.
Zhang Shouyi led Qin Luo to Zhang Youwei's room, which was rather dark as there were no candles.
Qin Luo entered the room.
Soon the moonlight filled the room.
When Zhang Shouyi saw the room suddenly light up, he knew Qin Luo was no ordinary person, and hope appeared in his eyes.
Qin Luo looked at Zhang Youwei lying on the bed and said softly, "Old Master Zhang is fine."
“Everyone says my grandfather has mental problems, and there’s nothing they can do about it,” Zhang Shouyi said, shaking his head helplessly.
Qin Luo's finger landed on Zhang Youwei's brow, and his consciousness appeared in Zhang Youwei's sea of consciousness. A faint light enveloped Qin Luo's consciousness, but it was dispelled by the golden light outside Qin Luo's body.
Zhang Youwei's sea of consciousness was like a black lake, with only a faint light remaining, which was his last remaining consciousness. If this continued for any longer, Zhang Youwei would go completely insane.
"Golden light appears instantly, follow me to exorcise evil!"
Qin Luo issued an imperial edict.
His consciousness emitted a dazzling golden light, dispelling the darkness in Zhang Youwei's sea of consciousness. In the blink of an eye, the sea of consciousness transformed into a golden lake, and Zhang Youwei's figure appeared within it.
Zhang Shouyi watched them nervously.
The moment Qin Luo withdrew his hand, Zhang Youwei suddenly opened his eyes, sat up, and gasped for breath.
"grandfather!"
Zhang Shouyi exclaimed in surprise.
Zhang Youwei looked at Zhang Shouyi who had come closer, patted him on the shoulder, and said with a look of relief, "Shouyi, you've worked hard all these years."
"It's all what a grandson should do." Zhang Shouyi started wiping away tears, then burst into laughter.
Zhang Youwei looked at Qin Luo, clasped his hands in a fist and bowed, saying, "Thank you for saving my life, Daoist Master."
Qin Luo bowed respectfully and asked, "Senior Zhang, do you know Zhang Lin?"
Zhang Youwei's eyes widened. He nodded and sighed softly, "My elder brother's son is named Zhang Lin, but he left the Zhang family many years ago and his whereabouts are now unknown."
Zhang Youwei did not hide anything. He had just seen Qin Luo appear in his sea of consciousness. If Qin Luo had wanted to, he could have just discovered all his secrets.
Qin Luo was certain that his master was Zhang Lin. "Senior, I would like to visit the Zhang family ancestral hall."
"Can."
"I'll take you there."
Zhang Shouyi helped Zhang Youwei get out of bed. "Daoist Master, do you still not know how to address me?"
Qin Luo smiled and said, "I am Qin Luo from Longhu Temple. My master is called Zhang Fulong. His original name should be Zhang Lin."
"What?!"
Zhang Youwei looked utterly shocked.
Unexpectedly, Qin Luo was Zhang Lin's apprentice.
On the way to the ancestral hall, Qin Luo told Zhang Fulong about his recent situation: "After receiving the letter from the Zhang family, Master was unable to return due to some special reasons."
