Chapter 25 Harmonious Family
Lianyi does not live with her parents.
The family mansion was purchased at No. 1 Tianjin on Huaixi Road. It is a unified garden and architectural complex. After entering through the gate, it feels like entering another time and space. Everywhere you look, there is a simple and elegant landscape.
Artificial hills and ponds are standard features in every garden villa.
Lian Yi's parents travel frequently, and this year they spent more than half a year abroad. Lian Yi felt it was too lonely living here by herself, so she moved to the smaller villa under her name.
But since she had been summoned today, the driver naturally took her to Tianjin.
He wanted to take Lian Yi home first, and then take Xie Ling home.
Along the way, one could glean from the outside the house the immense wealth and resources of the family who lived there.
Xie Ling took in all the scenery along the way, his expression remaining indifferent and his heart unmoved. He was well aware of the gap between himself and Lian Yi, but so what?
If it weren't for his father's health, he and Lian Yi would have been from two completely different worlds.
Why would they care about the distance between themselves and the other person?
The turmoil that Lian Yi had stirred in her heart on the car ride had subsided. Xie Ling lowered her eyes and told herself once again to treat it as a game that Lian Yi had started out of boredom.
Just as she threatened, Xie Ling thought indifferently that since he had accepted her help, he really had no right to talk about repayment.
Aside from her bottom line, let her have whatever she wants.
There are far too many things to do with someone like Lian Yi, so her interest in him won't last long. By then, she'll be free.
Amidst the interplay of light and shadow, the young man's features appeared increasingly aloof and distant, exuding a calm and composed air.
As the car pulled into the garage, the driver immediately got out and went around to the back to open the car door for Lian Yi, bowing slightly as he said, "Miss, we've arrived."
Lian Yi kindly refrained from bothering Xie Ling along the way, and almost fell asleep while resting with her eyes closed. She yawned and nodded, and was about to step out of the car when she suddenly seemed to remember something and turned to look at Xie Ling.
"Xie Ling, I didn't actually lie to you that night."
Xie Ling looked back at her, her gaze calm. "What?"
Lian Yi smiled, her eyes crinkling, and said earnestly, "What I said to you tonight was just to annoy you. Who told you to always be so cold and indifferent?"
She reached out and poked his arm, lowered her eyes, and spoke very softly.
"Your hug that night was really warm."
As soon as she finished speaking, Lian Yi got out of the car. She didn't bend down to look inside the car, but her cheerful voice, filled with laughter, rang out before she closed the car door.
Goodbye, Xie.
"..."
The boy in the back seat remained silent, his eyes lowered, as if he hadn't heard a thing, until the driver got back into the car and asked him twice.
Finally, he couldn't help but cough lightly and raise his voice, "Mr. Xie, where are you going? I'll take you there now."
“…Anhe Residential Area, thank you.” Xie Ling snapped out of her reverie and whispered her home address.
The driver was very professional and didn't say a word while driving.
In this space that had returned to tranquility, Xie Ling's gaze fell on the scene outside the car window that was constantly receding.
What did she mean by what she said?
-
The large living room was still brightly lit.
Chinese-style decoration can easily look old-fashioned, but things that can be solved with money are naturally not a problem at Lianjia.
Both the decor and the furnishings exude a refined, understated luxury.
When Lian Yi strolled into the living room, she could already see her father's stern, square face through the jade screen. Opposite him sat a woman in a black dress with her hair in a bun, exuding an air of elegance and nobility as she slowly sipped her floral tea with her eyes lowered.
The moment she rounded the screen, Lian Yi flashed a sweet smile and walked briskly toward the living room.
"Dad, Mom, why aren't you asleep yet, it's so late?"
Her tone was just as obedient, but her behavior was quite casual. She sat down on the empty sofa, leaned back, and sighed contentedly.
Lian Decheng frowned habitually. "You have no manners."
"Why are you being so serious?" Mother Lian glared at him, then put down her flower tea and sighed, "Next time you're going on a long trip, you should tell your parents first. I was so scared when I found out you went to Hecheng without saying a word."
"You still have such a temper. Where are you going to get the money to buy a plane ticket if you cancel your card?"
Lian Yi lowered her head, took out her phone and tapped randomly, saying in a perfunctory manner, "Oh, it's my secret stash of money. Anyway, it's not the first time Dad has cut off my card."
"Hmph, if you hadn't been so reckless, would I have done this?" Lian Decheng said seriously, "You said those things in front of your Uncle Gu, what will people think? They'll all say that I, Lian Decheng, don't know how to raise my daughter!"
Even his mother frowned and gave him a disapproving look.
"Alright, we've finally managed to sit down and talk as a family, so please stop scolding our daughter all the time."
“That’s right,” Lian Yi said casually. “Besides, Dad, you want to arrange a marriage for me as soon as you come back. Why did it have to be that Gu Yiyu? He’s brainless. How can you bear to let your daughter marry an idiot and spend her whole life with him?”
"...You can't say that in front of your Uncle Gu."
Her mother looked at her with a helpless expression. "Your father and I are not forcing you to get married. It's just that you've grown up and you have to get married eventually. We need to find someone we can trust so we can feel at ease entrusting you to him."
Upon hearing this, Lian Yi put away her phone and gave her mother a sweet smile.
"Mom, I'm only eighteen, what's the rush?"
Lian Decheng snorted, "No rush. If you're allowed to act recklessly for a few more years, I'm afraid no one in the entire Yunhai will dare to marry you."
His cooperation with the Gu family will certainly not end just because this marriage failed to take place.
It's something that's meant to be icing on the cake; it would be best if it could just happen naturally.
"That's not necessarily true."
Lian Yi blinked and said in a deliberately mysterious tone, "I came up with a really great idea in Hecheng these past two days. If I make it, it will definitely impress you all."
"..."
Hearing her say that, her father and mother exchanged a silent glance, then went back to drinking tea and reading newspapers.
Lian Yi tilted her head, finally unable to hold back any longer, "I'm serious!"
"Hmm, tell me about it." Lian Decheng adjusted his glasses without looking up.
"I've noticed that while Yunhai City is economically prosperous, it still lacks in terms of culture and people," Lian Yi said with a smile. "These days, everyone's talking about innovation and novelty."
Her gaze swept over Lian Decheng's slight pause as he flipped through the newspaper, then she lowered her eyes and continued without pausing, "So, I want to build a landmark building!"
Lian Mu tilted the teacup to her lips slightly and slowly sipped the tea.
Seeing that Lian Yi was becoming increasingly impatient, she chuckled and said, "It's not easy for you to come up with so many things to say. So, tell me, how much money do you want this time?"
Lian Decheng shook his head slightly, tacitly agreeing with his mother's question.
Over the years, Lian Yi has asked them for money under the guise of starting a business, but eight out of ten times she failed to make it work. At the most outrageous time, the money she invested was even embezzled by her partners.
They just considered it throwing money into the water, spending money to give Lianyi something to do so that she wouldn't cause trouble outside, at least she could stay quiet for a while.
"Hmm... I'm guessing it'll cost at least two hundred million, right?" Lian Yi said with a serious expression, seemingly oblivious to the slight surprise that her parents had before their expressions returned to normal.
"We've initially invested 200 million, and we'll add more funds as needed. Mom and Dad, this project is sure to make money."
Lian Yi said naively, "Don't we have an engineering company? We'll leave the construction to them. I'll make sure to use all this money wisely!"
Lian Decheng finally looked up from the newspaper in his hand and looked at Lian Yi with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
“If you weren’t my daughter, Lian Decheng’s daughter, you would have been escorted out by security as soon as you asked for those two hundred million.”
Mother Lian smiled and comforted her, "It's not that your father and I are unwilling to give you the money, but since you want to do something seriously, you need to have a plan. Right now, your father and I don't even know what you want to do, and we don't even have a plan."
"This amount is quite substantial; we can't just allocate it to you casually."
Lian Yi's eyes brightened slightly, and she leaned closer, "If I come up with a solution, will you be willing to pay me?"
“…That’s a good idea.” Lian Decheng tapped the table and said, “However, if your proposal is acceptable, giving you the money isn’t out of the question.”
Lian Yi gave a frustrated "Oh," and said, "There are conditions too."
"This is no small amount after all."
Lian Decheng ignored her attitude of backing down, "Lian's Group is not my personal fiefdom. I am also responsible to the shareholders. If you can't make a difference this time, the matter of letting you join the group to handle business will have to be put on hold for now."
"Think it over carefully before making a decision."
Lian Yi opened her eyes wide and said quickly, "No need to think about it. Anyway, I don't want to join the Lian family so early. I'm not free to begin with, and if I join the Lian family, you'll be watching me all the time. Besides, I'll start my own business. In a few years, I can make it bigger and stronger, and maybe even better than you."
"snort."
Lian Decheng, seemingly unwilling to argue with her, rubbed his temples and stood up. "If you have that kind of ambition, then I don't need to worry about you!"
"You, you never know how to agree with your father," Mother Lian shook her head helplessly. "If you don't know how to proceed with the plan, how about I ask someone to help you?"
Lian Yi pouted, "No way, this time I'm going to rely on myself."
Her glass greenhouse was purely designed to lose money. Even if her mother arranged for someone with a little experience to come, she was worried that this wasteful project might not even have a sliver of a chance to make a profit.
Mother Lian looked at her for a while before shaking her head and laughing, "Alright, alright, do whatever you want. It's getting late, go and rest. You have school tomorrow, don't you?"
"I know, Mom." Lian Yi looked up at her, her face full of obedient innocence.
"I've spoken to your father, and he'll unfreeze all your cards tomorrow. He won't freeze your cards arbitrarily anymore." Lian's mother took Lian Yi's hand and said gently, "He's just too domineering. I'll talk to him about it."
Lian Yi hummed in agreement, "Exactly."
“You are my precious daughter. If you don’t want to marry someone, then we won’t marry him. I’m on your side.” Lian’s mother stroked her hair, her eyes full of concern. “Whatever you want to do, I will support you.”
"I know, Mom, you're the best to me—"
The scene of a loving mother and filial daughter finally ended when they went upstairs and parted ways.
Lian Yi rubbed her face, which was slightly stiff from trying to maintain an innocent expression, closed the door, and chuckled softly with her eyes narrowed.
She also couldn't quite understand these parents.
