Chapter 26 The Fifth Prince Wakes Up

"Your Highness, you're awake."

The man on the bed was pale, and upon closer inspection, his features bore a resemblance to those of Emperor Junlan.

"What time is it now?"

An old steward stood beside him. "It's already evening, Your Highness."

Who is the new emperor?

The old steward looked at the person who had just woken up and said, "Your Highness, it is the Ninth Prince."

The man's eyes glazed over for a moment, his voice hoarse, "It's Ninth Brother."

He then laughed and said, "What's the point of fighting for this position? It's better to just stay alive."

Are we in the capital now?

The old steward replied, "Yes, Your Highness. After His Majesty ascended the throne, he arranged for imperial physicians to examine your health. Although you were in a coma for three years, someone came to check on you every day. It was arranged by His Majesty."

"They even made me a king?"

Old steward: "Yes, Your Highness."

"What about the other princes?"

The old steward said, "Two have died, and the remaining five are either injured or disabled. His Majesty has already arranged for them to go to other fiefdoms. Moreover, in the past three years, three of the princes who were seriously injured have passed away."

Only two remain, barely clinging to life.

When Emperor Junlan learned that the Fifth Prince had woken up, he asked, "He woke up yesterday? How is he?"

"Your Majesty, the person is still recovering and is therefore in bed with the imperial physicians."

Emperor Junlan: "Hmm."

He had received help from his fifth brother back then, so he wouldn't be spared in this struggle for the throne. Most of the others had already been tortured to death by him. Since they weren't blood brothers, there was no need to show mercy...

As for the late emperor… hatred outweighed love. He participated in this struggle for the throne, albeit in secret. He made his will only because he didn't participate in the fratricidal game, leading the late emperor to believe that he was the only one who cared about brotherhood…

Unfortunately, no.

If it weren't for him, so many people wouldn't have died in this fight, especially his son. Those two who died were the ones who bullied him back then...

He was just too stupid; he was killed by the other five before he could even make a move.

The Regent's Palace.

"My lord, the Fifth Prince has woken up."

Murong Jin responded with an "oh," indicating that she wasn't surprised.

Aren't you shocked?

Murong Jin looked at Yi Er, "Why are you so shocked? With the best medicine every day, it's only a matter of time before he wakes up."

"However, can His Majesty and the Fifth Prince really get along well? I'm very curious. After all, when the Fifth Prince was vying for the position, he probably didn't expect that the unremarkable Ninth Prince would end up sitting on that throne."

Murong Jin yawned. "Why bother with this? We don't get involved in royal affairs."

If it's a power struggle... she might be willing to participate.

However, Di Junlan is doing quite well so far, there's no need for him to seize the throne, and that position is not easy to hold anyway.

"By the way, Master, someone heard that you prefer men, and there are several handsome boys outside the manor now..."

Murong Jin: "..."

Who sent it?

Jin Shisan rubbed the tip of his nose. "It seems someone overheard your conversation with the young master the other day, and they even claimed that you admitted it yourself..."

Murong Jin: "..." It's definitely better to be careful when you're out and about. It was just a chat, and people have spread such wild rumors about it...

"Send him away, and have someone prepare some gifts to send to the Fifth Prince's residence."

Jin Shisan: "Yes."

After Jin Shisan left, Yi Er stood beside her. "Master, the Fifth Prince has woken up. Do you think he will cause trouble again?"

Murong Jin shook his head, "No, even if it were, that's His Majesty's business."

Once the Fifth Prince has recovered sufficiently, we will visit him again.

The Fifth Prince's Mansion.

When the news came from outside, the Emperor, sitting on the bed, said, "Please invite Your Majesty in."

Upon seeing Di Junlan dressed in all black, he was taken aback for a moment. "Your subject greets Your Majesty."

Emperor Junlan walked over and said, "Fifth Brother, there's no need for such formalities. I heard you had woken up, so I came to see you."

"I've caused Your Majesty worry." I never expected that the little fellow from back then would be so mature and composed now, and he even has a regal air about him.

"How is Fifth Brother's health?"

"After sleeping for so long, the imperial physician said it will take another three months to regain my strength."

Emperor Junlan hummed in agreement, and the two remained silent.

The Fifth Prince didn't know what to say to him. When he participated in the struggle for power, he felt that it was wrong for brothers to kill each other, but later he was poisoned by his own brother...

The saying "the royal family is the most ruthless" is absolutely true. He doesn't want other people's lives, but others want him dead.

He didn't spend much time with Xiao Jiu either.

"Then I'll head back now. Fifth Brother, you should get some rest."

"good."

After Emperor Junlan left, the Fifth Prince felt that the reason he was still alive was probably because he had helped Xiao Jiu a few times in the past.

From now on, I'll be a carefree prince, since Da Cheng already has someone to take care of him.

"I've heard that the Regent is that Murong Jin?"

"Yes, Your Highness."

The Fifth Prince thought for a moment, "How did he get that position? Has Little Nine been bullied by him?"

"It was the late emperor's edict that placed General Murong in that position."

The Fifth Prince was somewhat puzzled. Why would his father make him regent? It didn't make much sense. After all, his father knew about the threat posed by the Murong family. If the title of Prince of Zhenbei wasn't just a title without any real power or influence, the Great Cheng might have been controlled by the Murong family.

Why is Murong Jin being appointed regent now?

Is there some truth they don't know about this?

"What's the situation in the court now?"
