Chapter 57 Demanding an Explanation

Qin Xu was pretending to be drunk, while Jiang Qingtang was genuinely drunk and out of her mind.

The assistant helped her to the room, and Jiang Qingtang mumbled something indistinctly.

After her assistant left, she lay on the bed, feeling extremely sad in her dazed state.

He called out Qi Jingchen's name.

She cursed him again, calling him a scumbag.

She wanted to give the scumbag a good scolding.

Jiang Qingtang opened a number and waited for the other party to answer before angrily saying, "Brother Kang Xu, you're right, Qi Jingchen is a bad guy, a bad guy who deceives people's feelings!"

"Kang Xu, with so many people in this world, how come no one loves me? I love Qi Jingchen so much, but what's the result? I'm just a substitute. Now that the real one is back, I'm useless. Will you abandon me too? Will you leave me one day?"

There was complete silence on the other end of the phone.

She was even more upset, her voice choked with sobs: "Why won't you say anything? You hate me too, don't you? Don't hate me, Brother Kangxu, you're all I have left."

She cried as she recounted many memories of their time as neighbors and the joy of their reunion.

"I'm so stupid. You told me long ago that Qi Jingchen and I are from different worlds, and that I shouldn't fall for someone like him, but I just wouldn't listen. I fell into a trap someone else had woven and I can't get out..."

"Didn't you say you loved me the most? I'm your most beloved little sister, you'll always love me, right? I'll listen to you from now on."

She tried to open her eyes, but couldn't resist the overwhelming drowsiness, and her voice grew softer and softer.

After the phone went completely silent, the plain-looking woman with a somewhat scholarly air hung up and tossed the phone next to the sleeping man, who reeked of alcohol.

I originally thought it was a lucky thing to become colleagues with this good-looking and nice old classmate.

When his classmates teased him, he didn't say anything. When he expressed his feelings for her, she didn't reject him either.

She thought he was interested in her, but that he was just too introverted.

She had thought she could take advantage of his drunkenness to stay and take care of him, hoping to gain his favor, but now... forget it.

Damn it, he has someone he's flirting with, yet he says he admires her? So I'm just a fish in his net?

He also added the nickname "Clumsy Childhood Sweetheart" to the female lead's contact information.

Ugh, that's disgusting.

She angrily threw the wet towel in her hand at the man and was about to leave.

After taking two steps out, he remembered something, picked up the wallet on the table, went straight to the bathroom, and threw it into the toilet.

She bought this.

He didn't refuse when she gave it to him.

She even changed into it.

Rubbish.

Jiang Qingtang had an extremely low alcohol tolerance, and he even blacked out when he woke up the next day.

She had no idea that she had called Chen Kangxu last night.

As for Chen Kangxu, even less is known.

Jiang Qingtang cooked some porridge, and I felt better after drinking it.

I was clearing away the dishes when the phone rang.

Upon seeing the caller ID, Jiang Qingtang's brows furrowed immediately.

I waited a while before calling back.

"Dad, I was busy just now, is there anything I can help you with?"

Unsurprisingly, my family called to ask for money.

She would transfer a sum of money back every month on time.

He rarely calls to check on her family, except for those two days each month when a show of affection for them takes place.

Once the money is in his hands, he'll lose it all in no time.

People who would agree to things before are now reluctant to do so: "I don't have any work scheduled lately, and I don't earn much. I'll transfer the money to you later."

Mr. Jiang was furious. He still had gambling debts to pay off, and if he couldn't come up with the money in the next couple of days, it would be the death of him.

“You have a very rich boyfriend, so just borrow some money from him and transfer it over, then pay him back later,” he said matter-of-factly.

It's better not to.

They're boyfriend and girlfriend anyway, and they'll get married in the future, so why should a family be so calculating?

Besides, her boyfriend owns a large company in Shanghai and has countless assets. The money she asked for is just a drop in the ocean to them and is not worth mentioning at all.

Money, money, money... all they ever care about is money; their daughter is less important than money.

If it weren't for these leech-like family members sucking her blood, she wouldn't have taken Qi Jingchen's money, wouldn't have been so obsequious to him, and perhaps none of this would have happened.

She said impatiently, "We've already broken up."

Mr. Jiang was furious when he heard this: "What did you say?!"

“We’ve already broken up,” Jiang Qingtang repeated impatiently. “Is it so rare for boyfriends and girlfriends to break up? I’ll transfer the money you wanted.”

"Of course it's rare!" Mr. Jiang said without thinking. "Didn't you two already live together? Weren't you going to get married? Why did you suddenly break up?"

Jiang's mother snatched the phone away: "Does he not like you acting? Didn't I tell you before that rich people like to be in the public eye? You're always acting with male actors, and you even participated in that dating reality show and dated someone. Did that make him angry? Go apologize to him right away, and don't break up over something like this."

“Exactly! Let me tell you, what’s the point of making movies? Isn’t it all for the money? You should just stay put and keep your boyfriend, surnamed Qi, in your hands. That’s more important than anything else,” Jiang’s father chimed in.

Jiang Qingtang had a headache that felt like it was going to explode. She rubbed her temples and looked extremely pale. "I act because I like it, not for money. I'm not with him for money either. Can you please stop projecting your own ideas onto me?"

If it's not for money, then what is it?

Is the northwest wind filling you up?

Does building a house in your hometown not require money?

Buying a house in the city doesn't require money?

Will my son not need money to get married in the future?

He gambles and can't live without money.

"Okay, okay, it's not about the money, alright?" The couple put the phone on speakerphone and asked, "How much did he give you as a breakup fee? You two dated for over a year and lived together the whole time. How much damage does that do to a girl's reputation? Shouldn't he compensate you?"

"I said we were in a free-love relationship! Being with him was consensual, and the breakup was amicable. Neither of us owes the other anything, and there's no question of compensation!"

The two were even more unwilling.

"So you didn't lose a single penny?"

Jiang Qingtang couldn't stand it any longer and coldly said that she had something to do before hanging up the phone.

The couple looked at each other in bewilderment.

Nobody's happy that their eligible bachelor is gone.

"No, we can't just break up like this! I'm going to find him tomorrow! We have to get an explanation for our daughter!"

"Do you even know where he is before you go?"

"Of course I know. Didn't you find a business card in Qingtang's room before? I've kept it. I called the number last time. You can't go wrong by following the address on it."
