Chapter 59 He wanted more than just ordinary friends

While waiting at a red light, Lu Yanci glanced to the side and said unhurriedly, "I don't have many friends."

Qin Yue raised the corner of her eye slightly: "So now you've got one more?"

"Hmm." He pursed his lips slightly and nodded.

What he wants is not just friends.

But we can only start as friends.

"You've helped me many times already. As a friend, I haven't helped you in any way yet. In the future, if there's anything I can do to help, Mr. Lu, just ask. I'll do anything for you."

Her seemingly promise-like words successfully dispelled the gloom in his heart and amused Lu Yanci.

A faint smile appeared on his lips: "Okay, I won't stand on ceremony with you then. Let's skip the formalities between friends. Don't call me 'President Lu' anymore, it sounds awkward to me outside of work. Just call me Lu Yanci from now on, like before."

"Lu Yanci?"

The three words sounded especially beautiful coming from her mouth.

She paused, then deliberately said, "I think since we're friends, it's better to call him Yan Ci. What do you think?"

He hesitated for a few seconds after being asked, "What do you think?"

He slowly started the car, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel, and a muffled hum escaped his throat: "Anything is fine, do as you please."

Qin Yue glanced at the back of his hand without making a sound, and sighed inwardly. She never thought about it when Lu Yanci treated her differently.

But when she learned of Lu Yanci's feelings, all his pretense was so poorly done that it was easy to see through at a glance.

She racked her brains but still couldn't recall any other time she had ever met him besides when she was a child.

In his previous life, he anonymously sent flowers on his birthday, which couldn't have been because of childhood feelings.

Or perhaps they had met, but she forgot?

They went to the same university in the same city, and the two schools were not far apart, but she was sure she had never met him. During holidays, she would occasionally attend some banquets with her parents.

At the banquet, she greeted her parents and elders, and also chatted with some peers. Could it be that the two of them met at some banquet?

Lu Yanci looked calm and collected, with a plan for everything, as if he could even think about where to be buried after his death. How could he be moved by a brief meeting?

The idea had barely formed when it was immediately overturned.

Lu Yanci is a human, not a god. How could he control his seven emotions and six desires?

Emotions can be suppressed or indulged, but their existence cannot be denied.

If all emotions were controllable, there wouldn't be so many lovesick men and women in this world.

Furthermore...

It wasn't that Qin Yue was narcissistic, but rather that she was confident in her appearance.

What she was even more curious about was whether this brief encounter, which she might have forgotten and which might have been a "love at first sight," occurred before she left for distant lands or after she returned in her past life.

"What are you thinking about? You look preoccupied."

It turns out we've already arrived at our destination.

Qin Yue unbuckled her seatbelt and shook her head, saying, "It's nothing. I was just wondering if it would be easy to get backstage after the performance, and if I could deliver the flowers I bought."

"We definitely can," Lu Yanci said with certainty.

After parking the car, the two walked together towards the restaurant.

He first politely asked her what she wanted to order, and after she had ordered, he added two more dishes that she liked.

She seems unapproachable, even indifferent to everything, but she is surprisingly meticulous and always notices her preferences.

Lu Yanci is a person who doesn't talk the talk but walks the walk.

This is also the part of Qin Yue that she feels most comfortable with him.

Using "sincerity" to describe a successful businessman might seem inappropriate, but regarding Lu Yanci's attitude towards her, she could only say that the other party was sufficiently sincere.

The restaurant is about a ten-minute walk from the Grand Theatre.

There was still nearly an hour before the performance started.

Qin Yue suggested walking there.

Lu Yanci's gaze immediately fell on her feet.

They were 3-centimeter-high stilettos in the same color as the cheongsam.

Qin Yue followed his gaze to her feet and smiled, "It's okay, the heels aren't high and the distance isn't far."

Lu Yanci wanted to mention that he had prepared flat shoes for her in the trunk of his car, one black and one white, which his assistant called the "versatile" style.

After thinking about it, I gave up.

As she said, the distance wasn't far.

As long as she's happy with what she wears.

The flowers were taken out of the trunk, and Lu Yanci held them in his arms.

The two walked side by side, strolling leisurely along the roadside.

Lu Yanci shielded her on the inside, maintaining an appropriate distance.

Qin Yue, as if remembering something, asked with great interest, "I have a question for you. You can answer it, or you have the right to remain silent."

"Hmm? Go ahead and ask."

"I saw a question last night about love at first sight versus love that grows over time. Which do you prefer?"

Lu Yanci was silent for a moment before casually replying, "Whether it's love at first sight or love that grows over time, I believe it's because the other person has qualities that you like that make you fall in love."

Qin Yue: "That's irrelevant. The question is, which one do you prefer? You can only choose one."

A silence that lasted longer than before.

Lu Yanci twirled his fingers and replied, "Love at first sight."

These words, spoken by Lu Yanci, were both unexpected and yet somehow expected.

"Judging by looks? Or..."

“I’m more inclined to believe a feeling,” he countered. “What about you?”

Some people and some things seem to be preordained.

He himself found it hard to believe that a single, casual glance could make him remember a smile for so many years.

It's also possible that... love at first sight is just a facade of loyalty to appearances.

Qin Yue pondered for a moment: "It's probably because feelings developed over time."

Lu Yanci nodded thoughtfully.

She is surrounded by outstanding people, and even if someone has an exceptional appearance, it probably doesn't add much to her appeal.

Before we knew it, we had arrived at our destination.

After passing through security and having their tickets checked, the two took their seats according to their assigned numbers.

The best spot is in the middle of the first floor, offering a wide view and allowing you to see the performance on stage up close without having to crane your neck.

Within a few minutes, people started arriving one after another.

To Qin Yue's right is Lu Yanci.

There was a strange man on my left.

Noticing the gaze that was intentionally or unintentionally falling on her, Qin Yue lifted her eyelids and looked at the man beside her expressionlessly.

The man caught red-handed instinctively looked away.

His whole face turned bright red.

He sat stiffly with his back straight, his hands clenched on his knees, holding his breath.

After a while, he looked at her cautiously again.

This time, it seemed that he had finally confirmed something. For a moment, he was lost in thought on his handsome face, but he quickly came to his senses. His eyes were filled with undisguised joy, and he looked very happy.

His voice was filled with barely suppressed joy: "Qin Yue!"
