Chapter 22 The Truth About Longhushan Military Rations

On the third night, Jiang Sheng Lengfeng finally arrived at the foot of Longhu Mountain and hid in the woods under the cover of night.

Leng Feng dismounted and walked over, his voice cold: "Doctor Mo, what should we do now?"

Jiang Sheng's legs were rubbed raw again, and he endured the pain: "Go up the mountain, take these hidden weapons with you, if you encounter an accident, you can kill people directly with hidden weapons. It's very concealed."

"...Doctor Mo, can you also make hidden weapons?"

"A little bit. I know a little bit of everything."

Leng Feng noticed that he walked in a strange posture, pursed his lips, and said nothing.

The two men ran towards the mountain. As they got closer to the mountain, there were more patrolling bandits. The two men were wearing black clothes and wrapped themselves up.

While they were tired, we climbed up the mountain.

They finally reached the top of the mountain at midnight. Looking at the scattered houses, the two of them climbed over the wall without saying a word.

After secretly observing for a day, they finally determined the location of the granary. After knocking the bandit unconscious and changing into his clothes, they ran towards the granary.

Behind the rockery, Jiang Sheng looked at the patrolmen.

He lowered his voice and said, "The security here is really tight. It looks like a prison, but the people in the kitchen take food from here, which means this can't be a prison. It can only be a granary."

Leng Feng nodded and also felt that this was a high possibility.

"Indeed, using a cell to conceal our presence is a good idea."

"The problem is, how are we going to get in now? If we alert the enemy, we'll all be dead. Doctor Mo, do you have any good ideas?"

Jiang Sheng hummed, "Yes, I made some poisonous smoke before. This smoke is very special. Anyone who gets poisoned will become like a puppet, with a blank mind."

"The effect of the medicine only lasts for one stick of incense, which means we must sneak in and investigate thoroughly within that time. If we miss that time..."

"After a certain time has passed, they will wake up. Then we will be hacked to pieces. There will be no going back."

His eyes rolled around, thinking that was impossible. He had the space in his hands. If he encountered danger, he could hide in it and even the Lord could not find him.

Leng Feng hummed: "Okay, when will it start?"

"It's best to be asleep at midnight."

"Um."

"This poisonous smoke is easy to make. If it can be used on the battlefield..."

Jiang Sheng waved his hands repeatedly: "No, this is limited in range. If the wind is strong, it will be blown away directly, and the medicine will not be able to work."

The two waited quietly behind the rockery until midnight.

The poisonous smoke on the ground ignited and slowly drifted towards the patrolmen along with the weak wind. Gradually, the patrolmen stopped moving and stood like wooden stakes.

Jiang Sheng calculated the time and said, "Okay, the medicine is taking effect. Let's go in quickly."

The two men went down into the dungeon and saw the mountain of food bags. They dragged a bag and cut it open with a knife. They were stunned when they saw what was inside.

"What...is this thing?"

He reached out and scooped up a handful. The broken rice was mixed with gravel and sand and was completely inedible. If it was good rice, it would be fine to filter it out, but this was basically wasted military rations.

Leng Feng was obviously thinking of something, his face looked terribly gloomy, cold air was blowing out, and his hands were clenched with a crackling sound.

Jiang Sheng took a deep breath and felt a dull pain in his heart. Many thoughts flashed through his mind, and he finally decided on one.

A deep voice sounded: "It was the Emperor who did it. Without his instruction, the grain delivery officer would not have been able to pass the inspection at every checkpoint. Even if he did, the most he could do was mix in a few stones."

"Instead of sending over broken rice that even livestock wouldn't eat, mixed with sand and gravel, Leng Feng continued to check to see how much of this military rations there were."

"Um."

Jiang Sheng's hands were shaking a little, and his mind suddenly became clear. So this was the truth. No wonder his father and brother died tragically in his previous life, and their bodies were sent back to the capital so thin that only a bag of bones was left.

If the military rations had not been robbed and were delivered directly to the military camp, and a major war happened to break out, how could they survive facing these inedible rations?

In this life, by touching those grain merchants, at least the military camp has food, instead of having to wait for food from the court. This is a way out.

The two checked and found that one-third of the rice was brown rice, and the rest was broken rice mixed with sand. There was no way to filter it out and it was completely inedible.

Jiang Sheng carried two bags and said softly, "Leng Feng, let's go out and report back to the generals and marshals as soon as possible. We can't rely on the court anymore. We have to find another way to survive."

"It's okay now that it's autumn, we can still find some way to get food. If we wait until winter, we will only have one outcome... death!"

Leng Feng couldn't stop feeling chilled. He didn't understand why the Jiang family, who had risked their lives for His Majesty, treated the Jiang family like this and gave them no chance to survive.

After leaving the dungeon, the two men climbed over the wall and walked down the mountain along the forest. They did not reach the foot of the mountain until dawn.

He placed the grain bag with the royal emblem directly on the horse and rode towards the military camp. Leng Feng rarely spoke along the way.

A horse was eating grass by the river. Leng Feng walked over and asked in a cold voice.

"Doctor Mo, do you know that there is a problem with the imperial court's grain? Otherwise, why would you come to investigate?"

Jiang Sheng paused and shook his head. "I don't know. That's why I wanted to take a look. I wanted to find out more so I could take back the military rations. I didn't expect..."

"There's no need to loot now. There's already very little food. If we fight over that little bit of food, who knows how many people will be killed or injured."

Leng Feng met those clear and calm eyes, and the doubts in his heart gradually dispelled. If Doctor Mo was a spy, there was no need to take the risk of making this trip.

Two days later, the two men rushed to the military camp, exhausted, and went directly to find Jiang Ling with their belongings.

Cheng Xia rushed in and said happily, "Master, they are back?"

"Are you injured?"

"I don't know. We'll know when they come."

The two men brought food bags into the tent and threw the things on the ground with a dull sound.

Jiang Ling glanced at them and said seriously, "What's wrong? You two look so bad. Tell me in detail."

Leng Feng took a deep breath, his eyes a little complicated: "Young Master, let the coach come as well, and don't ask others to come. This matter... is a bit complicated."

"Complicated? Could it be that there's something wrong with the military rations? Did they get replaced? It must have been done by the grain transport officers."

"No, it's not about the substandard food."

Jiang Ling waved her hand and said, "Cheng Xia, go get my father and tell him that my wound has broken and I'm in danger. I want to see him."

Cheng Xia nodded and replied, "Yes, I'll go right away."

After a cup of tea, Jiang Baichuan came hurriedly, opened the curtain and saw his son lying on the bed, his face as pale as paper, and smelled blood.

She pursed her lips and walked forward quickly, her eyes worried: "Ling'er, didn't you say the wound was fine yesterday? How come it collapsed now?"
