Chapter 27 The spy commits suicide by taking poison

Before Jiang Sheng could say anything, his stomach growled and he looked embarrassed.

He seemed to have slept for a very long time.

His voice was a little hoarse: "Major General, how long have I been sleeping? Is the Second General okay? Who are those assassins? Are they related to the spies in the army?"

Jiang Ling couldn't help but laugh and said, "You asked me so many questions, which one should I answer first? Well, worry about yourself first."

"Why did you suddenly have a nosebleed and faint? Are you feeling unwell?"

"...No, I'm not feeling unwell anywhere. I'm probably just too tired. Yeah, this autumn is a bit dry and irritating, so I got a nosebleed."

Jiang Sheng felt a little guilty and quickly changed the subject: "Major General, is there anything to eat? I'm a little hungry."

Jiang Ling hummed: "Yes, I'll ask someone to bring it over."

"Thank you, Major General."

After everyone left, I was the only one left in the tent.

Jiang Sheng looked thoughtful, and carefully recalled the scenes before he fell into coma. He looked at the lotus mark on his hand and felt that the assassin's body parts were made by him.

But how did he do it? He was just out of control at the time, his heart was filled with murderous intent, and he just wanted those assassins to die.

And then... they died.

Death happened so suddenly.

Jiang Sheng clenched his hands, feeling a little nervous.

He didn't know how to control this power. He had been living in the same tent with his brother. If it got out of control, would it cut his brother into pieces?

Whenever I think of that horrific scene, my heart aches.

Jiang Ling came back with the meal and looked at the dazed person on the couch. His face was frighteningly pale, as if he was frightened by something.

His tone slowed down a bit, and he called softly, "Xiao Tong, what's wrong with you?"

Jiang Sheng raised his head, his eyes a little fragile: "It's okay, I'm just a little nervous, maybe because I'm hungry. I'll be fine after I finish eating."

"Well, eat it while it's hot."

In just a cup of tea, Jiang Sheng was full and satisfied.

He secretly glanced at the people who were still handling official business, and seemed to be hesitant to speak, but finally spoke: "Major General, I have something to ask you."

"Well, go ahead."

"I-I'd like a separate tent, is that okay?"

Jiang Ling raised her head and looked at him, as if she had thought of something, and agreed readily: "Okay, I'll have someone prepare one for you, right next to my tent, what do you think?"

Seeing that he agreed, Jiang Sheng smiled and said, "Well, thank you, Major General."

That’s great. He will have his own tent in the future, so he won’t have to sneak into the space to grow crops. He can go in without worry at night.

I also have to study the books on Takeuchi, but I haven’t had time to do so recently.

As for that inexplicable power, he can practice it after entering the space. If he can master it, he will have more confidence to protect his life in the future, which is also a good thing.

A voice sounded outside the tent.

"Major General, something happened in the dungeon. The spy we captured earlier... committed suicide by taking poison."

Jiang Ling stood up, opened the curtain and walked out.

Jiang Sheng felt heavy-hearted upon seeing this, and he quickly followed. He wanted to see it with his own eyes. To be able to poison someone to death without making a sound, the person behind the scenes must be of very high status.

Maybe it was one of those old generals.

The two men arrived at the dungeon, and the screams became louder as they walked all the way to the innermost cell.

The jailer saw someone coming and bowed his head respectfully and said, "Major General, the assassin's body is here. The cause of death was arsenic poisoning."

"We checked the food with a silver needle, but the poison was hidden at the bottom of the bowl. It was our negligence that caused it. Please punish us, Major General."

Jiang Ling waved his hand and said softly, "Open the cell door. I'll go in and take a look."

"yes."

The two men entered the cell. Jiang Sheng squatted down to check and sighed. The clue was broken again.

Jiang Ling walked around the cell, looked through the assassin's body, stood up and pondered. He already had a suspicion in his mind, but he was not sure who it was.

"Let's go and see who delivered the food."

The jailer brought the man over. The soldier who was delivering the food was trembling with fear and begged for mercy: "It wasn't me, Major General. It really wasn't me. I was just delivering the food."

"I am not a spy. I beg the general to investigate."

"After getting the food from the kitchen, was there anything unusual on the way to delivering it? Did you let go of the food during the meal?"

The soldier who delivered the food thought about it carefully, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he said hurriedly: "Yes, I did have some today. I suddenly had a stomachache, and since there was no one around, I put the food box aside."

"If someone poisoned me, it could only be at that time."

Jiang Ling frowned slightly: "So, you didn't see what that person looked like."

The soldier nodded, a look of annoyance on his face. "Yes, I didn't...see it, but I really didn't poison him. I was just delivering food."

Jiang Sheng said nothing, brought a bowl of water with some medicine in it, walked over, picked up his hand, and soaked it directly in the water. Soon, the water turned light blue.

He raised the sleeve arrow in his hand and pointed it directly at his forehead.

"Major General, this man is lying. He was the one who poisoned me."

"I put something in the bowl just now. Anyone who touches arsenic will have their hands change color. This person's hands have proved it all."

A cruel look flashed in the soldier's eyes when he heard this. He opened his mouth and wanted to bite the poison hard to commit suicide, but unexpectedly someone pinched his jaw and took it off with a force.

“Mmm…”

Jiang Ling winked and said in a cold tone, "Go, take the poison out of his mouth. I will take him away for interrogation directly. There is no need to take him to the dungeon."

"This general wants to see who can kill someone right under my nose!"

"Little boy, come with me."

Jiang Sheng nodded, and slowly let go of his worries. If the person who poisoned the food didn't die, then he would have a better chance of finding the person behind it.

The two men returned to the tent, and the soldier was tied up and thrown into the corner.

Jiang Ling was busy all the time and began to interrogate the soldier. Screams could be heard from the tent. After a night of torture, the soldier had fainted.

Cheng Xia walked in and whispered, "Master, I have completed the tasks you requested. Do you have any other instructions?"

"Not yet. Leave the person outside and keep an eye on him. Tell the people below that no one is allowed to approach without the general's order."

"Hide in the dark and see which general approaches."

Jiang Ling took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood off his hands. His face still had that gentle expression, but his eyes were indifferent and without any emotion.

Cheng Xia was a little surprised and lowered his voice: "Young Master, you suspect the people behind this are those old generals..."

"Until the person behind this is caught, everyone is a suspect. Let's throw out the bait and see who we can catch."

"Yes, I understand."

Jiang Sheng squatted beside the soldier, a little worried: "Major General, that man is hiding so deeply, can we really catch him?"

In his previous life, he had sent people to investigate, but in the end he could only find out that the man was His Majesty's man, but he never found out his name until his death.
