Chapter 40 Hands Joined Between Dream and Reality
After being forced to receive an injection, Wen Yanyu was covered in cold sweat and seemed to be in a trance. Although her voice was so hoarse that it was hard to understand what she was saying, she kept repeating the same sentence.
"Mom, I want to go home."
"I want to go home..."
"Let me go home."
"Mom, I want to go home."
Jiang Wanrou turned to Jiang Keyan and said, "Find Yan Yu's phone and call his parents."
"This won't do."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Keyan's expression froze.
Jiang Wanrou asked, puzzled, "Hurry up?"
Duan Mufeng glanced at the person on the bed who was already in a daze, and whispered to the woman, "Yan Yu is a person."
Jiang Wanrou was stunned for a long time before she understood what the other party meant.
Wen Yanyu opened her eyes in a daze, her vision blurred by tears, as if through a layer of fog, unable to see clearly, only vaguely making out black and white outlines.
He called out weakly, "Mom?"
"I want to go home."
"It hurts so much, Mom. I want to go home, Mom."
The voice was so weak that it should have been almost inaudible, yet it entered my ears clearly.
Wen Yanyu curled up weakly on the pillow, the purplish veins on the back of her hand clearly visible.
His usually gentle eyes were now grayish-white, his pupils unfocused and filled with fear and confusion, his face misty and broken.
An indescribable sourness instantly surged into my throat.
Jiang Wanrou immediately bent down and grasped the palm that was sticky and cold with sweat, and replied, "Oh, baby, it's Mommy. Baby, don't be afraid, Mommy is here."
Hearing the hallucination respond to her, Wen Yanyu was stunned at first, then burst into tears, instinctively curling up into a ball, her eyes red as if they could drip blood.
She kept calling out the instinctive name "Mom" to seek a little comfort.
Wen Yanyu trembled and tried to lift her eyes to look at the person beside the bed.
But his body was in so much pain that he was constantly sweating profusely, and just opening his eyes to speak had exhausted all his strength.
The excruciating pain churning inside his body only allowed him to string together simple words into a sentence that was barely comprehensible.
"Mom, it hurts..."
"it hurts."
"I want to go home."
"Where does it hurt, baby? Tell Mommy, okay? Mommy's here with you." Hearing the weak sobs beside her, Jiang Wanrou's eyes reddened, and she asked softly, keeping her voice steady.
Wen Yanyu's eyelashes trembled slightly as she tried to force a smile, but her face was covered in tears, and her sweat-soaked hair was disheveled and scattered around her forehead.
"Mom, I miss you so much."
"It hurts so much."
"Mom, I can't find you, Dad, and my sister. They say I'm crazy, but I know I'm not."
Wen Yanyu kept trembling, looking as if she had been pulled out of the water, disheveled and embarrassed.
Wen Yanyu held the woman's hand and rubbed it affectionately against his cheek, his palm damp with what seemed like tears or sweat.
Jiang Wanrou clenched her fists tightly, tears instantly falling down her face. She tried to speak, but couldn't utter a single word.
My consciousness was completely clouded, my body was numb with pain, I couldn't see anything clearly, and I had even run out of tears.
Wen Yanyu murmured tremblingly, her words only audible to herself.
"You are not bugs, you are my family. I don't want to forget you, but I can't remember what you look like anymore, Mom. I'm in pain."
"I want to go home."
"Mom, don't go, don't leave me."
"It hurts."
"It hurts, it hurts, it hurts so much, Mommy, it hurts so much."
Wen Yanyu kept muttering to himself, his pale face covered in tears. He couldn't tell if this was reality or just another of his fantasies, and he chose to sink into despair once again.
It doesn't matter anymore.
Jiang Wanrou swallowed hard, suppressing her heartache, and said to the three of them, "You guys go and find Bao Bao's bag and that bottle of medicine from that day, and bring it to me."
After a moment's pause, the three of them immediately went out to look for the bag.
As the three walked out of the hall, they heard arguing outside the door.
Jiang Wanrou calmed herself down and saw that Wen Yanyu's clothes were completely soaked. She wanted to take off his clothes and cover him with a blanket.
It was at the very moment she lifted her clothes.
Jiang Wanrou's face turned deathly pale. She took a short breath and remained stunned for a while, looking at herself in disbelief.
I gently touched the raised scars with my fingertips, running them across my abdomen down to my lower back, confirming that this wasn't just my imagination.
Jiang Wanrou took a deep breath and carefully covered herself with her clothes, trembling so much that she dared not touch the marks that could only be described as inhumane.
Everything that seemed illogical now made sense. Her anger and heartache reached their peak; her heart was pounding, and she felt like she couldn't breathe.
Jiang Wanrou bent over, gasping for breath, tears streaming down her face.
A cold touch brushed against my cheek.
"Mom, don't cry."
Wen Yanyu vaguely felt something warm fall on his face, and could only rely on muscle memory to touch the woman's cheek.
Jiang Wanrou bit her lip hard, trying to steady her breathing. "Baby, don't be afraid. Tell Mommy, did someone bully you?"
Her voice was filled with barely suppressed sobs. Jiang Wanrou gently coaxed, "Tell Mommy, okay? Mommy will protect you. Don't be afraid. Who bullied you? Mommy will go and teach them a lesson, okay?"
Wen Yanyu groggily opened her eyes, her voice soft and weak: "Bad people bullied me."
"They bullied me..."
"It hurts so much..."
"it hurts……"
"I can't escape..."
"I'm scared, Mom. I want to go home..."
A nightmarish murmur, filled with despair and confusion.
Jiang Wanrou cupped her face in her hands, her eyes shimmering with a light that seemed about to shatter. She choked back a sob, "Mommy knows, it's bad people, bad people bullied me, boohoo, I... I'll tell Mommy who the bad people are, okay? Mommy, Mommy will definitely teach them a lesson, tell Mommy..."
He hadn't finished speaking.
"Found it!"
Lu Mingxu hurriedly came in with a medicine bottle that still had a few pills left.
Jiang Keyan carried a large glass of warm water, while Duan Mufeng carried a new quilt.
Jiang Wanrou wiped away her tears, took the pills, shook out three, then paused and poured out the remaining pills. "Come on, help the baby up."
Duan Mufeng put down the quilt and immediately did as instructed.
Wen Yanyu frowned in resistance.
Jiang Wanrou fed the medicine to the boy and coaxed him softly, "Baby, take the medicine and it won't hurt anymore. Be good, Mommy's here."
Upon hearing this, Wen Yanyu obediently swallowed the medicine.
Duan Mufeng glanced at the medicine bottle in his hand and couldn't help but ask, "Aunt Jiang, what kind of medicine is this?"
Jiang Wanrou covered Wen Yanyu with a blanket and replied succinctly: "Strong painkiller."
Duan Mufeng was taken aback.
Lu Mingxu pressed on first, "Is this medicine addictive? I see Yan Yu taking a lot of it every day; he must have taken two bottles already. I always thought it was vitamins."
Jiang Keyan bit her lip, picked up the pills, and examined them carefully.
Jiang Wanrou lowered her head: "Yes."
Lu Mingxu asked, puzzled, "Is it alright to let him eat so much?"
Jiang Wanrou turned her head to look at him, her emotions unreadable: "Unless the pain is unbearable, this kind of medicine is not easily prescribed to people in such large quantities."
I understood the meaning behind the other person's words.
Lu Mingxu was stunned for a moment, then rubbed his temples weakly.
What exactly happened over the years?
Jiang Wanrou had already turned back around and tucked the blanket around the person on the bed.
"I'll stay with the baby tonight. You guys can make do in the living room for now. Keyan, you and Xiaoyu should go back and get some sleep."
Jiang Keyan shook her head and sat down by the bed. "I'll stay here and keep watch too."
Duan Mufeng and Lu Mingxu each brought over a stool.
Time passed, I don't know how much.
The person on the bed gradually calmed down, but their body was still trembling and they were still not asleep.
Jiang Wanrou sat on a low stool, leaned over the bed, and held the boy's hand tightly.
"Mother……"
Jiang Wanrou replied, "Mommy's here. What's wrong, baby?"
Wen Yanyu said softly, "Mom, I'll sing you a song. I've learned that song. No, I'm not singing it off-key."
Knowing that the other person may be experiencing some kind of PTSD, I realize that failing to soothe their emotions could lead to serious problems.
Jiang Wanrou immediately softened her voice, "Okay, Mommy also wants to hear you sing, baby. You're the best, sing for Mommy, Mommy's right here."
Wen Yanyu carefully pressed his face against the woman's hand, greedily feeling the real warmth, and hummed softly in a hoarse, off-key voice.
"The sky was dark and low-hanging..."
"Bright stars accompany me."
"Insects, fly, insects fly."
"Whom are you thinking of..."
A bitter, sour taste permeated the air.
He barely managed to finish the song, and warm liquid kept dripping into his palm.
Wen Yanyu gasped for breath, his eyes completely shut, and he could barely breathe. He could only instinctively hold onto the woman's hand tightly.
"Mom, don't rush, let's go, I'm so tired, stay with me a little longer, just a little longer, just a little longer, that will be enough..."
Jiang Wanrou replied in a trembling voice, "Mommy, I'm here. I won't leave. Don't be afraid, baby. Mommy won't leave."
Wen Yanyu took a deep breath, the effects of the medicine gradually taking hold, drowsiness washed over her, and her eyelashes trembled incessantly.
He pleaded softly, his voice hoarse as if he were about to burst into tears: "I want to kiss Mommy, I'm so tired, Mommy, please kiss me, okay?"
Jiang Wanrou was stunned for a moment, unable to discern the source of the bitterness in her heart, only knowing that she was about to be torn apart by excruciating pain.
With trembling hands, Jiang Wanrou bent down and kissed the boy's cold forehead, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Mom, are you crying...?"
"...Ah, Mommy, no, don't cry, baby, be good and sleep well, Mommy will stay here with you."
"Mother."
"Mom is here."
"I'm fine, I miss you all..."
"Yes, Mommy misses the baby too."
"Mother……"
"Mom is here."
Wen Yanyu nestled in the soft blankets, her knees bent and pressed against her abdomen, her long, gray-black hair disheveled and scattered on the sides of her face, her thick eyelashes covered with wet tears.
Slender, delicate fingers loosely grasped the woman's hand.
He looked tired and in pain, with only his lips slightly parted, constantly uttering pleading murmurs.
"Mother……"
"I'm scared..."
"I want to go home..."
"go home……"
The weak voice gradually faded away with the sound of breathing.
His chest showed little movement; only the strands of hair ruffled by his breath proved he was still alive.
