Chapter 16 The Matter of Soothing a Child
Li Qianhua tugged at the boy's clothes, looking completely lost as Wen Yanyu helped her to a bench. Her empty eyes had no focus, and she could only rely on her sense of smell to perceive the people around her.
"Xiao Hua, close your eyes for a moment, brother will wipe your face for you now."
Li Qianhua nodded blankly.
Wen Yanyu soaked a handkerchief in water and covered the child's eyes. The water seeped through the towel and unknowingly seeped into the child's eyes.
"alright."
A strand of black hair quietly lost its color.
Li Qianhua opened her eyes and blinked instinctively. A glimmer of light suddenly appeared in her previously dull eyes.
Wen Yanyu remained expressionless, lowered her head and rummaged through her bag to take out the lotion she had brought, squeezed out a little, and gently rubbed it into her fingertips.
While applying the cream evenly to the child's face, she smiled and said, "Alright, the baby's face smells nice now."
She then took out a hand cream from her bag.
"Xiao Hua, give your hand to your brother." Wen Yanyu said, kneading the cream in his palm, wrapping it around the child's hand, and placing the cream on the child's little hand.
Li Qianhua obediently reached out her hand, feeling the gentle touch on it, a hint of dependence unconsciously flashing in her eyes.
In her memory, only her mother, whose face she could no longer recall, had done this to her. Her brothers and grandfather in the village were very kind to her, but apart from her mother, no one else had ever treated her like this.
Everything is complete and confirmed to be correct.
Wen Yanyu gently rubbed the child's cheek.
"Okay, you sit here and eat your candy. I'll come and play with you when I'm done with my work." Wen Yanyu stood up, tore open a small bag of chocolates, and handed it to the little girl. He then turned and walked towards the other children.
Li Qianhua lowered her head and popped the chocolate into her mouth, the aroma of which filled her mouth.
Not far away, one could hear Wen Yanyu and the other children's voices.
"Brother! What is this fragrant thing?"
"That's hand cream, this is for applying to your face."
"Brother! My eyes are watery!"
"Ahem, sorry, Little Tiger! Don't pull your sister's hair!"
"Brother, I want to apply that perfume too."
"I'll wipe the baby's face after I'm done wiping my sister's face."
Hearing the sound not far away, Li Qianhua was about to grab a piece of candy when she suddenly stopped. She tapped the number of chocolate balls in the bag with her fingertip; there were 6 left.
The child lowered her head gently, clutching the bag of candy in her hand, savoring the sweetness in her mouth. The midday sun shone on her, warm and scorching.
It felt like something strange was growing inside my body, something that was both sweet and sour.
[I'm dying of laughter. On a side note, Wen Yanyu's technique for applying skincare products is just like my grandma applying Dabao (a popular Chinese skincare brand) to me, hahaha.]
[Although I know this person doesn't seem like a very good person, but... he's such a good mom!!! Help!!!]
[Add one...]
[Duan Luobo has stopped displaying his screen and is starting to enjoy being a "child."]
After working for half a day, Wen Yanyu finally finished washing the children's faces and combing their hair. Looking at the refreshed little bundles of joy, she sat down again.
Perfect!
I took the storybook from the child, but there were too many children around and not enough benches.
Wen Yanyu took the storybook from the child, sprayed each of the kids with a strong mosquito repellent spray, and then simply sat down on the grass next to the willow tree in the yard.
A group of children surrounded him, some sitting on his lap, some close together. Li Qianhua was holding Xiaohua in his arms.
Sunlight filters through the gaps in the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the pages of the book, like fragments of gold.
Wen Yanyu opened the fairy tale book and completely adapted the original story. The children, who were tired of hearing the same stories, listened attentively one by one.
A gentle breeze blew by, and warm sunlight fell on his hair and into his eyes.
Her soft, gentle voice was like a summer breeze, slowly and deliberately telling a fantastical fairy tale.
A rose born in winter is ravaged by the cold wind and eventually grows thorns; a hypocritical king eventually loses his queen; the dirge of a caged bird.
The little rabbit fought the dragon and finally rescued his family, only to discover that it was all a dream, and ultimately died under the winter ice.
The children listened intently, and before they knew it, they had rested their heads on Wen Yanyu's shoulder.
He led me into that fantastical fairy tale world.
Wen Yanyu turned the pages of the book, her long hair cascading down her shoulders. Her stunningly beautiful features were devoid of any aggression, exuding a gentle yet subtly aloof charm.
His beautiful peach blossom eyes shimmered with a beautiful, warm light in the sunlight, gentle and tender, making everything around him seem extremely dim.
A breeze carrying the scent of flowers blew by, and Wen Yanyu sniffed her reddened nose. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and her pink, lively fingertips supported the book. The black cover contrasted sharply with her white skin.
Her gentle yet melancholic voice was like a spring breeze, or a feather brushing against the heart, leaving one unsure whether it was an itch or a soreness.
Duan Mufeng sat backwards in the chair, one hand holding the backrest and the other supporting his chin, unconsciously lost in thought.
Three hours have passed, and there are only a few comments in the live stream, but the number of viewers has soared from the initial 700,000 to more than 5 million.
[This feels so good, am I dead?]
I really want to go back to kindergarten and have Wen Yanyu be my teacher.
[Baby, as long as you don't keep pestering men in the future, Mommy will still love you.]
[He's such a good storyteller. That voice, that sunlight, that atmosphere—it felt like I was back in the days before I became a wicked woman.]
Ah, that feels so good, I pooped on the bed.
[I'm a typical office worker who relies on sleeping pills to fall asleep, and I actually fell asleep while listening to Wen Yanyu tell a story. Waaah, it felt like I was transported back to my past before I turned to the dark side.]
[Baby, please! ASMR is welcome!]
[It's just...so heartwarming! Summer, sunshine, under a tree, a handsome boy telling a story, and a group of children who have just been washed clean. Absolutely gorgeous!]
[Reading Wen Yanyu feels like watching a taboo story about an underage male mother. He's not very mature, but he's incredibly gentle and understanding, yet a bit awkward, like an unmarried male mother who got pregnant before marriage. It's like a melodramatic coming-of-age story (not really)]
A warm atmosphere filled the courtyard.
Until an elderly male voice broke the silence.
"Lunch is ready, kids, come and eat!"
Suddenly, the village chief's voice came from outside the door.
Wen Yanyu snapped out of her daze and closed the storybook.
"Let's go, we should go eat."
The children turned to see the village chief standing solemnly at the door, and reluctantly stood up, patting their clothes.
Several children reluctantly reached out to hold Wen Yanyu's hand, looking at him expectantly, their faces filled with the desire to be together.
Wen Yanyu moved his head one by one, "You guys go with Grandpa Village Chief first. I'll tidy up here and then we'll eat together. I still have to take care of Xiaohua right now."
The children then realized what was happening, glanced at the silent Li Qianhua, and let out a disappointed "oh".
"Hurry up, brother! We want to hear a story after we finish eating!"
"good."
Wen Yanyu got up and packed her things.
Just then, the sound of arguing came from behind.
“That’s candy my brother gave me…” Li Qianhua held Xiaohu’s arm tightly: “You’re a bad boy, why did you steal my candy!”
"What?! I don't know! Can you please stop being so annoying! You just left the candy there, so what if I ate it!"
The little boy looked guilty and pushed away the little girl who was tugging at his arm.
Li Qianhua stumbled and was about to fall to the ground.
