Chapter 14 Babysitting Mission

Chapter 14 Babysitting Mission

I waited for ages.

The photographer and the two followed behind Wang Jianhua, who was in charge of leading the way, listening to his instructions.

"Most of the children in the village have parents who work away from home. They are all under school age and are left in the village for us to look after."

"Don't worry, most of the children in our village are very well-behaved. You can play with them or sit with them for an afternoon. It's okay if you don't do anything."

After a pause, Wang Jianhua added, "However, some of the children might be a bit mischievous. If they bother you, please don't get angry and just ignore them."

Duan Mufeng laughed heartily, "It's nothing, it's a small problem."

As they spoke, the three of them walked together to a somewhat dilapidated courtyard, from which bursts of laughter and chatter could be heard.

Wang Jianhua pushed open the door, and the older children immediately surrounded him. In the yard, a dozen or so children either excitedly rushed over in groups of three or five, or sat reservedly in a corner.

The children in the yard all looked to be around five or six years old. Some of their clothes were a little too big, and some were a little too small. Their skin was a healthy wheat color, and their eyes were all bright and sparkling as they looked at the group of people in front of them.

They played house in the yard all day, covered in dirt and unidentified substances, looking like dirty little balls of dirt.

"uncle!"

"What a beautiful lady!"

"Uncle! I've taken good care of my younger siblings!"

Wang Jianhua stepped forward and introduced them to the children: "These are the people I told you were coming. How about these two older brothers show you around today?"

"Don't be naughty or cause trouble."

"Be good and don't make your brothers angry."

"good!"

The children in the yard all agreed in unison.

Wang Jianhua turned around and said, "I'm leaving the children in your care. I have some things to take care of in the village."

The middle-aged man waved and left.

Several children stared at the two people who had just arrived.

"Brother, why is your hair yellow? Are you a foreigner?" The child skipped and jumped around Duan Mufeng, his face full of curiosity.

Duan Mufeng forced a smile at the playful children in front of him, "This was dyed by my older brother."

"Was it dyed with pigment?"

"Brother, what's your name?"

The children kept asking questions, one after another.

Duan Mufeng's lips twitched, but he patiently answered each question one by one.

He's terrible at dealing with kids.

Wen Yanyu looked around the courtyard for a while, when suddenly a child tugged at his clothes.

The little girl grabbed a bunch of flowers and offered them to him, saying, "Here are some flowers for you."

"Sister, what's your name?"

Upon hearing this address, Wen Yanyu was taken aback. She knelt down to accept the bouquet and smiled, saying, "Thank you for the flowers. My name is Wen Yanyu."

"Also, I'm the older brother, not the older sister."

The little girl delivering the flowers paused, her gaze lingering blankly as she looked over the long hair.

"elder brother?"

"Yes, brother."

"Brother! Brother! You're so beautiful! I thought only girls could be that pretty."

Wen Yanyu let several curious children surround him and look him up and down.

[Although...hahaha, how could I mistake her for my older sister?]

[It's a child's stereotype, haha, that all girls with long hair are older sisters.]

I thought only girls could be that pretty, hahaha, I'm laughing so hard!

[But what did these kids do? Why are their faces and hands so dirty?]

[The kid's probably just playing house in the dirt.]

In just over ten minutes, I had played various roles in the cycle of reincarnation and had come into contact with all kinds of children, so I knew how to deal with them.

Wen Yanyu quickly became friends with the children in the yard thanks to the candies and chocolates she brought in her bag to deal with low blood sugar.

Several children gathered around Wen Yanyu.

Their eyes were shining brightly, and they regarded him as their leader.

Duan Mufeng was happy to be at ease, so he pulled up a stool and simply sat down in the yard to laze around.

He would occasionally exchange a few words with Wen Yanyu.

Wen Yanyu braided the hair of the child closest to her, then glanced at the children surrounding her and looked at the small house with its door half open, where she vaguely saw the figure of a little girl.

Adhering to the principle of not leaving any child behind, Wen Yanyu patted her clothes and got up to go see.

A little boy tugged at his sleeve: "Brother, you don't need to worry about Xiaohua. She doesn't like playing with people, and her personality is super weird. Just leave her alone."

Wen Yanyu paused for a moment, then squatted down and grabbed the child's wrist: "Why did you say that to her?"

The little boy pouted: "Her personality is really strange, and she's also very troublesome."

Several children nearby suddenly spoke up as well.

"She doesn't talk much whenever I try to play with her."

"Yes, and she also needs her brother and grandfathers to take care of her, she's an absolute savior!"

Listening to the children talking amongst themselves.

Wen Yanyu frowned as she listened, her tone unusually stern: "Xiaohu, and you guys, you can't talk about other children like that anymore. It's very impolite, and that child will be sad if they hear it."

The little boy turned his head away: "Oh, I won't say anything more."

The children exchanged glances and then fell silent, grumbling softly.

Wen Yanyu glanced at the children, then turned and walked into the house.

I pushed open the slightly ajar door, letting the sunlight stream back into the room.

"Hello, I'm Wen Yanyu. What's your name? Why don't you come out and play with us?" The gentle voice was like the clouds in the sky being crushed, softly drifting into our ears.

Having already heard the conversation outside the door, the little girl panicked upon hearing this voice again and instinctively shrank back. However, there was no wall behind her, and she stumbled and was about to fall off the bench.

A pair of hands steadily supported her, then gently released her.

She raised her empty eyes, her gaze aimless as she looked at the person in front of her.
