Unfortunately, she was of low status and her words carried little weight. She couldn't even listen to Granny Wu's advice, let alone Lianxin, a maid with no influence. Such a plea would only further enrage Madam Su.
“Innocent! What’s so innocent about her? I’m the most innocent one. If it weren’t for her husband, he wouldn’t have ignored me for so many years. Qian Youxue had been lying in bed for several hours and was getting worried when Lianxin still hadn't returned. She got up, intending to go out and check, when Chunhua walked in.
"Is Miss looking for Lianxin?" Chunhua asked with a smile as she brought in a late-night snack.
"Yes, she's been gone for two or three hours, why hasn't she come back yet?" Qian Youxue wanted to get information about Lianxin from Chunhua.
Chunhua put down the plate and handed a bowl of soup to the young lady: "I saw Lianxin an hour ago. She said she was going back to the other courtyard to get some things for you, and she probably won't be back so soon."
To get something?
Qian Youxue didn't remember instructing Lianxin to fetch anything.
"This is a late-night snack that Madam instructed us to prepare for you. Please drink it while it's hot," Chunhua urged the young lady with a smile. Her task was to get the young lady to drink the soup.
It smells so good!
Smelling the aroma, Qian Youxue touched her stomach, feeling hungry again. It was strange; she was getting hungry faster and faster. Swallowing hard, she picked up the spoon and gulped down the food.
As the soup in the bowl dwindled, a barely perceptible smile appeared on Chunhua's lips. She got up, walked to the incense burner, reached out and stirred the incense sticks, secretly sprinkling some on them.
Qian Youxue finished her meal absentmindedly, put the bowl down, patted her stomach, and realized she was actually full. She was full after just one bowl of soup—what was going on?
"Miss, please rest well. If you need anything, just call me and I'll be waiting in the courtyard." Chunhua stepped forward, collected the bowl, bowed to her mistress, and left.

Qian Youxue yawned and stretched, feeling her eyelids getting heavy. She felt sleepy after eating, a pattern she'd been following for the past few days, which she found unusual, yet she couldn't resist the exhaustion and fell asleep sitting on the bed.
