Chapter 74 "Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together."...
Pei Xuan suddenly grabbed Jiang Ling'er's wrist, so that the tip of the blade was just hovering over the pale, thin skin on her wrist, where faint blue veins could be seen.
The young Taoist's voice, as beautiful as jade striking jade, was unusually somewhat out of control:
"You idiot, do you want to die?!"
"I won't let a bug control me. I'd rather die than accept that kind of freedom." Though her words were resolute, Jiang Ling'er's eyes remained unusually calm, brimming with unwavering determination. She added at the end, "And also, I'm not stupid. Don't you dare call me stupid again!"
Pei Xuan: "..."
Pei Xuan was glared at again but didn't seem to care. It felt like a small animal's claw had scratched his chest, making him feel uncomfortable. His long eyebrows twitched and then furrowed even more tightly.
It's still a carnivorous, vengeful, and unapproachable little beast.
He paused for only a moment, the strange feeling quickly vanishing, like an illusion. A habitual, nonchalant smile played on his lips as he took a packet of powder from his pocket and placed it on the table where the two of them were leaning against each other: "This is a calming powder that can incapacitate ten oxen. When Chunhua is restless and agitated from the pain, I feed her a little. It certainly won't work if it's a poison that can incapacitate a small poisonous creature, but this isn't poison; it's a good remedy."
As Pei Xuan spoke, he slowly released his grip on Jiang Ling'er's wrist, but not completely. Instead, he turned her wrist, the blade pointing directly at her heart. He lifted his long eyelashes, his phoenix eyes deep, and stared intently at her:
"Undoing the Heart-to-Heart Gu is simple; all you need is a drop of the heart's blood from the person who consumed it. The key question is, can you bring yourself to do it?"
Jiang Ling'er's response was to break free from his hand, take the calming powder from the table, and leave without looking back.
Pei Xuan was left alone, silently watching her receding figure for a long time, until that slender figure disappeared into the street corner, before turning his head and coldly snorting at the donkey:
"Look at her, she's so...unreserved." What an impolite girl.
Chunhua reciprocated by nestling her head affectionately on the young Taoist's arm, letting out a low hiss.
-------------------------------------
Jiang Ling'er was seriously ill for three days, and the little poisoner stayed by her bedside without changing his clothes for those three days.
Even people made of stone sometimes doze off.
Jiang Ling'er took advantage of the moment when the little poisonous creature couldn't control its shallow breathing and secretly slipped out to meet Pei Xuan.
When she returned, night had fallen, and the inn was plunged into a chaotic darkness.
The little poisonous creature opened its mouth in this darkness, which resembled a muddy swamp:
"I thought you would never come back."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ling'er paused and lit the candle with a tinderbox.
The candlelight was dim, but enough to illuminate the small, dark room. Yet it couldn't brighten the good complexions on their faces.
The little poisonous creature was more clingy than she had imagined, and getting rid of him wouldn't be easy.
Jiang Ling'er was seriously ill for three days, and the little poisoner stayed by her side without changing his clothes, seemingly also seriously ill for three days, as even the ghostly flames on his body had dimmed considerably. In the candlelight, their equally pale and thin faces, and even thinner waists, with their long robes hanging loosely on their bodies, truly resembled two beautiful ghosts gazing at each other through the dim firefly.
“I saw… you and that Taoist priest. The first thing you did when you opened your eyes… was to go find him. Are you two very close?”
The candlelight was dim and could not illuminate the darkness in the little poisonous creature's eyes. It also hid Jiang Ling'er's fair face in the dim light, making it impossible to see her expression.
She hadn't figured out how to reply to him yet.
Fortunately, the little poisoner didn't press the matter. That's not like him.
Jiang Ling'er frowned slightly.
Normally, he would definitely get to the bottom of things.
Little Poison dared not ask what happened on that stormy, dark night three days ago, nor did she dare ask what that stinky Taoist priest from the Lingxiao Sect had said to her.
I dare not ask.
He dared not, and could not, break through this barrier.
After a long silence, the little poisoner finally moved. He slowly walked towards Jiang Ling'er, cautiously as if afraid she would refuse. He wrapped his arms around her waist, and when he sensed the resistance from the person in his arms, he felt as if he had been pricked by a needle. He hugged Jiang Ling'er even tighter, as if he wanted to melt her into his bones, and smiled.
Behind Jiang Ling'er's back, in a corner untouched by the candlelight, a cruel smile lingered:
“I saw you feeding that stupid donkey. You treat that beast better than me.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ling'er frowned even more deeply and remained silent.
The arms that rested on her waist felt like shackles binding her. She could only suppress the urge to push him away by clenching her teeth, her hands hidden in her sleeves clenched tightly, and the veins on her arms bulging like mountains.
"Are you planning to never talk to me again?" The hand that was holding her waist began to wander, the fingertips caressing her waistline with lingering affection, the thin lips lightly touching her fair earlobe, and at the same time the voice suddenly became much deeper, "You know, I can't live without you anymore."
Suddenly, two fingers pinched her chin and lifted it up.
It hurts a lot.
When I looked up, I was met with a pair of deep, dark eyes.
The little poisonous creature gave her no chance to escape; its handsome face, as beautiful as a lotus, stared at her expressionlessly.
"Say you love me."
Jiang Ling'er gritted her teeth, her lips pressed into a thin line, and remained silent.
The hand gripping her chin tightened, the little poisonous creature drawing closer, its warm breath brushing against her face. Her beautiful, pale face faintly glowed with a hint of madness.
"Tell me you can't live without me."
Jiang Ling'er: "..."
Jiang Ling'er endured the sharp pain in her jaw, turned her gaze away, and refused to speak or look at him.
Little Poison: "..."
The little poisonous creature stared intently at the beautiful yet stubborn face before it, then suddenly smiled and released its grip. Its voice was muffled, somewhat hoarse, and tinged with self-mockery:
"If you knew that what lay ahead was a one-way street, a dead end... tell me, what would you do?"
The little poisoner pressed further: "She tried so hard to survive, should I send her to her death, or..."
People who walk different paths cannot make plans together.
Jiang Ling'er finally spoke.
These seven simple characters divided the Chu-Han border.
As soon as he finished speaking, the little poisonous creature turned deathly pale, all color draining from its face.
His pale face made his bloodshot eyes stand out even more, especially the beauty mark under his eye, which was so bright red it looked like it was about to drip blood.
No one spoke, and the atmosphere became extremely tense. It was Jiang Ling'er who laughed first:
"What are you talking about? Are you hiding something from me?"
The little poisonous creature's eyes flickered, as if it couldn't believe what it was hearing: "You... I thought you..."
"Ah, that scoundrel Taoist priest did say some things that made me angry, but compared to him... I've only known him for a few days? And how long have we been through thick and thin together? Besides, we made a pinky promise, didn't we? Of course I believe you, you know me." Jiang Ling'er scratched her hair in frustration, but as always, she had a bright smile and seemed carefree. "I don't lie, do I?"
The little poisonous creature stared blankly at the person in front of it, a faint light gradually appearing in its dark eyes... as if it had been saved.
Jiang Ling'er's smile faded slightly as she stared intently at him:
"So, is there anything else you're hiding from me?"
The little poisonous creature's long eyelashes trembled, and it remained silent for a moment. It opened its lips, but ultimately said nothing.
Jiang Ling'er looked at him quietly, then suddenly smiled.
When the little poisoner leaned closer to her, she turned her head away, avoiding his kiss.
"It's getting late, go to sleep."
The candle was extinguished.
The little poisoner's hand remained frozen in mid-air for a long while before it whispered, "...Hmm."
The two lay down fully clothed, each lost in their own thoughts, dreaming different dreams while sharing the same bed.
Jiang Ling'er turned over, her back facing the little poisonous creature.
In the end, he still said nothing.
Jiang Ling'er felt utterly heartbroken and gritted her teeth, clutching the medicine packet in her palm.
Meanwhile, the little poisoner repeatedly savored what Jiang Ling'er had said... "Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together."
He turned his head to look at Jiang Ling'er's back, which was turned away from him. His fingertips ran through her long, raven-feather-like hair, watching strands slip through his fingers...
Are you trying to tell me that we're not in the same industry...?
Are you leaving me?
Just as the strand of hair was about to slip through his hand, it was grabbed tightly!
The little poisonous creature had a gloomy face and its eyes were filled with a faint red mist.
-------------------------------------
It wasn't until Jiang Ling'er recovered that Little Poisoner had time to deal with his own affairs.
He had seen the wounds on Jiang Ling'er's body from the battle, and after a moment's thought, he had a clue.
The old venomous creature's beloved king cobra had been lurking in Qing Shi Town. Luring the snake out of its den and finding its lair wouldn't be difficult.
Luo Chong panicked for a moment when he saw the little poisonous creature, but he quickly concealed it:
"Senior brother, you've finally found me! I was just wondering when you would arrive..."
I told you not to touch her!
With the same ruthless methods as the old poison master, Luo Chong's neck was snapped before he could finish speaking, and he was thrown to the ground like a rag!
He didn't even have time to beg for mercy.
The little poisonous creature's sinister eyes swept over the surrounding scoundrels, uttered a single sentence, and then strode away:
"I won't run away anymore. Let the old man come see me."

Author's Note: Some things aren't solved simply by talking them out. Little Poisonous is adept at understanding people's hearts; he knows that talking it out means… separation. Even if he had spoken up sooner, there wouldn't have been this journey. He and Jiang Ling'er aren't on the same path, at least not at this stage.
