Chapter 90 We're Getting Married, Long Time No See

Chapter 90 We're Getting Married, Long Time No See

Fu Yanli looked up in disbelief, very slowly, following the source of the aura to the shadow in the corner of the office, hidden by heavy curtains.

There, at some point, a blurry outline appeared.

The figure leaned lazily against the wall next to the French windows, the faint light filtering through the curtains from outside obscuring his face; only a tall, slender silhouette was visible.

And at the tip of that person's finger, there was clearly a speck of scarlet, flickering uncertainly.

A familiar posture.

A familiar scent.

Fu Yanli's heart pounded, and blood rushed to his head, bringing a dizzying ecstasy and an incredulous tremor.

He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He could only stare intently at the silhouette in the shadows, as if the other person would suddenly disappear in the blink of an eye.

The man seemed to sense his overly intense gaze; the crimson fingertips twitched slightly. Then, a cool, almost provocative, languid voice, all too familiar to him, rang out in the silent office:

“President Fu,” the voice paused, as if considering the long-unspoken title, before slowly adding, “...long time no see.”

It's Xu Wenci!

It really is him!

He didn't disappear! He's back!

Fu Yanli almost staggered around the desk and rushed towards that corner.

He didn't even care about maintaining his domineering CEO demeanor; all he wanted to do was confirm whether this was just his own hallucination.

As he approached, the figure in the shadows gradually became clearer.

Xu Wenci was still wearing the same slightly casual shirt and trousers she had worn before they parted ways, with two buttons undone at the collar, revealing her beautifully shaped collarbone.

He leaned against the wall, his posture languid, as if he were just taking a short nap. A cigarette was between his fingers, but he didn't smoke it, letting the crimson glow burn quietly in the dim light, sending up wisps of thin white smoke.

He raised his eyes again to look at Fu Yanli, who had rushed in front of him. His amber eyes appeared exceptionally deep in the shadows, and there seemed to be a hint of a smile, almost imperceptible, like shattered ice, within them.

Their eyes met.

All sounds seemed to vanish in an instant, leaving only the somewhat disordered breathing of each other and that faint smell of tobacco.

Like invisible threads, they tightly bound the two together.

Fu Yanli stopped a step away from Xu Wenci, breathing rapidly and his chest heaving violently.

He stared at the face before him with almost greedy eyes, at those familiar eyebrows, nose, and thin lips.

Looking at that face, which appeared somewhat hazy yet incredibly real behind the smoke.

A thousand words stuck in my throat, finally turning into a trembling, almost choked whisper:

"Xu Wenci..."

Xu Wenci looked at Fu Yanli's reddened eyes and his lips trembling slightly with excitement, and did not answer immediately.

He sighed very softly, almost imperceptibly, then brought the cigarette between his fingers to his lips and took a drag.

It was exactly the same afternoon I remembered.

Fu Yanli blinked.

Xu Wenci leaned forward slightly.

The distance was shortened again.

Fu Yanli did not dodge; in fact, he instinctively went to meet him.

Then, Xu Wenci gently blew the faint smoke from his mouth onto Fu Yanli's face.

It was still that familiar, aggressive tobacco scent mixed with his own cold aura.

But this time, Fu Yanli did not hold his breath, did not cough and hold his breath, did not feel panicked, only a huge sense of satisfaction that almost overwhelmed him, and the ecstasy of regaining what he had lost.

Those unspoken and inexplicable emotions seeped into my limbs and bones along with the smoke, filling the huge void in my heart.

The smoke dissipated.

Xu Wenci lowered his eyes, looking at the clear longing and uncontrollable joy on Fu Yanli's face, and the faint curve of his lips finally became more pronounced.

He reached out and, with the hand that wasn't holding the cigarette, gently brushed across Fu Yanli's eye, wiping away the non-existent moisture.

He didn't always see Fu Yanli crying.

However, from now on... Fu Yanli will no longer suppress himself because of the domineering CEO code.

“Yes,” he responded gently, “I’m back.”

Fu Yanli could no longer hold back. He suddenly reached out and grabbed Xu Wenci's wrist, which was brushing past the corner of his eye, with such force that he almost crushed the bones in Xu's wrist.

It was as if only this real tactile sensation could confirm that none of this was an illusion.

"You won't leave again?" he asked, his voice carrying a deep unease he himself was unaware of.

Xu Wenci let him hold him and did not break free.

He turned his hand over, made a fist, and touched Fu Yanli's clenched fist.

It's the same as when we discussed cooperation before.

But you can't.

They can no longer just be partners.

Fu Yanli was stunned.

He belatedly coughed several times.

Only then did I realize that I still couldn't stand the smell of smoke.

Xu Wenci had already turned around and opened a small window.

He turned around, looked up, and explained expressionlessly, "I came back specifically to put on an act with you."

"What play are we going to put on?" Fu Yanli coughed, his mind going blank.

"I told you, I want to marry you, and then get a divorce." Xu Wenci turned his head and looked at the neon lights outside the floor-to-ceiling window.

Fu Yanli hummed in agreement, but couldn't help raising his eyebrows excitedly. Following Xu Wenci's gaze, he tried to calm himself down, but couldn't suppress the corners of his mouth: "Then we'll have to put it on the agenda as soon as possible."

After a long while, he withdrew his gaze and looked back at Xu Wenci's face. Looking at the profile of his face softened by the smoke, and at the warm crimson at the tip of his fingertips, his tense nerves finally relaxed completely.

He lowered his head, reached around Xu Wenci with one hand, stubbed out the cigarette between his fingers, and threw it into the trash can.

Xu Wenci squinted, pushed Fu Yanli away, took off his coat briskly, frowned in disgust, and smelled of smoke.

Fu Yanli naturally noticed Xu Wenci's little trick, but still mischievously pulled Xu Wenci into his arms, gently rested his forehead on Xu Wenci's shoulder, smelled the reassuring scent of tobacco on him, and closed his eyes.

"Then it's settled."

We promised each other we'd get married.

Xu Wenci was held tightly in Fu Yanli's arms, his nose bumping against the other's shoulder, which still carried the cool fragrance of the office, but now mixed with the lingering tobacco scent on his body, creating a strange yet intimate fusion.

His body stiffened for a moment, and he subconsciously tried to push him away, but Fu Yanli's arm held him tightly, with an undeniable force and a slight tremor of... barely perceptible relief.

This subtle tremor, like a feather, gently brushed against Xu Wenci's heart.

His pushing motion slowed down, and in the end, the hand that was originally going to push him away only symbolically rested against Fu Yanli's chest, its fingertips unconsciously curling up slightly.

Xu Wenci hummed in response, his voice muffled against Fu Yanli's shoulder, slightly slurred and strained, as he tried to maintain his nonchalant facade.

Then, he plopped down on the sofa, crossed his legs in a pretentious manner, and said in a teasing tone, "Brother, you have a boyfriend and didn't tell us... I'm going to tell Mom..."

Xu Wenci paused for a second, tilted his head, and a barely perceptible look of surprise flashed in his eyes. Before he could see Ye Chuying, Fu Yanli turned his head back and pressed it back onto his shoulder.

"Alright, I'll take him tonight." Fu Yanli smiled, but his eyes held a hint of doting affection.

Ye Chuying had already seen the person her brother had a crush on. She gave her brother a look and said, "Brother, Mom said she's cooking tonight. You and... Xu Wenci... are in for a treat."

Hearing this address for the first time in a long time, Xu Wenci stepped out of Fu Yanli's embrace, his eyes momentarily moist.

It feels so warm.

“Brother, your secret relationship with Xu Wenci has been going on for so long, Mom is getting impatient,” Ye Chuying turned to Xu Wenci and winked, greeting him somewhat awkwardly, “Hello, Brother Xu Wenci.”

"Besides, Aunt Xihe and Mom have been worried that if you two don't go public soon, Mom will have to go public for you..." Ye Chuying said angrily to Fu Yanli, looking disgusted.

"Alright, alright," Fu Yanli rolled his eyes at Ye Chuying, then gave her a wink, signaling her to hurry up and leave. "If you're just passing on a message, then hurry back."

"Okay." Ye Chuying rolled her eyes at Fu Yanli in a childish manner.

With a knowing, playful smile, Ye Chuying turned and left, thoughtfully closing the door behind her and leaving the two of them alone again.

After the door closed softly, a subtle silence once again fell over the office.

The intimate atmosphere that had been abruptly interrupted had not completely dissipated; the air still seemed to retain traces of tobacco and the ambiguous mingling of their breaths.

Xu Wenci stood there, his eyes slightly lowered, seemingly still processing the impact Ye Chuying had brought about regarding "home" and "mother".

The long-lost calls of "Brother Xu Wenci" and "Aunt Xihe" were like a key, inadvertently unlocking a frozen corner in his heart. The warm current that surged out made his eyes sting, yet he was also filled with a sense of bewilderment.

Fu Yanli did not miss the fleeting moisture and stunned look in his eyes.

He didn't rush up to him forcefully like before, but instead looked at him quietly for a few seconds, then reached out and gently took his hand, which was hanging by his side and slightly curled up.

Fingertips touched, carrying a warm pressure.

Xu Wenci's eyelashes trembled slightly, but he did not break free.

"Were you scared?" Fu Yanli's voice was deep and gentle, with a hint of reassurance. "My mother... she doesn't dislike you." He paused, then added, "She's just worried about me."

Xu Wenci nodded, his eyelashes fluttering slightly.

He knew.

"...The smell of smoke hasn't completely dissipated yet." Finally, he turned his face away, somewhat awkwardly making up an excuse, but his voice was much softer than before.

Fu Yanli chuckled softly, readily releasing his hand and turning to walk towards the dressing room: "Wait for me to change. Next time, there will definitely be clothes for you in the dressing room."

As he reached the door, he turned back to look at Xu Wenci, who was still standing by the window, the afterglow of the setting sun casting a warm golden glow on him.

“By the way,” Fu Yanli said with a smile and his eyes shining brightly, “Mom’s macarons are absolutely amazing, even better than those of a five-star pastry chef. You’ll definitely love them.”

Fu Yanli would definitely like it.

Xu Wenci didn't turn around, but just looked out the window and gave a very soft "hmm".

Author's note: Only one chapter left for a happy ending.

I might update today, but I'm a bit busy and might not be able to find the time. I might update tomorrow instead.

But the main story will definitely end on November 22nd.

My mom has been quite busy lately, but she seems more worried than I am about my writing causing me stress. She keeps asking me all sorts of questions: How are you eating? Why are you staying up so late again? Are you taking your medication? Does your back hurt?

But it doesn't matter now, just one more chapter and the main story will be finished. [Sunglasses]
