Wen Li's expression turned slightly cold as she looked out the window again.
The malevolent aura emanating from it was a sign that the tomb's collapse was not an accident.
Wen Li took a deep breath: "Could you please ask the staff stationed near the tomb if they were injured? Does Professor Mu know about this?"
Wu Chi was taken aback, not expecting that Wen Li would still be able to think clearly and ask if there were any wounded at this time.
Over the past few months, Wu Chi has witnessed Wen Li's growth and is very obedient to her instructions. Before his mind could even process what was happening, he had already said, "I asked around, and no one works in the tomb at night. Professor Mu has already headed towards the tomb, and he asked me to inform you."
Wen Li turned back, took the clothes, and headed to the restroom. She came out in less than a minute: "Let's hurry up and go too. Oh, and remember to call the police."
"What?" Wu Chi thought he had misheard.
"Call the police. The collapse of the tomb is unusual. I suspect it was man-made."
Wu Chi's heart skipped a beat, and he exchanged a glance with Su Mingzhang beside him.
Su Mingzhang quickly took out his phone: "I'll call the police right away."
After calling the police, the three of them headed towards the tomb with practiced ease.
They walked in such a hurry that even in the freezing cold, sweat beaded on their faces. They passed through the bamboo forest that obscured their view, and by the time they reached the base camp, the wind and snow had soaked their sleeves.
Mu Shuxin and several other experts were counting heads when they saw Wen Li and the others approaching. Mu Shuxin quickly waved to them.
After walking over, Wen Li asked again, "Is anyone injured?"
Professor Mu shook his head, but a hint of worry appeared on his deeply lined face: "No one was injured, but the entire mausoleum collapsed."
They unearthed tens of thousands of artifacts from the tomb, but even so, at least half of them were not moved in time. Now that the vast mausoleum has collapsed, it will probably take dozens of times more time and manpower to clean up those artifacts.
Wen Li understood Professor Mu's implied meaning and comforted him, "At least the vast majority of things have been preserved."
After speaking, Wen Li lowered her voice: "Professor Mu, the collapse of the tomb is a very bad omen, but this place is a dragon vein with excellent feng shui. The earth's veins could not possibly change suddenly, so a sudden collapse definitely indicates a problem. I'll have to trouble you and the other seniors to take everyone back first."
Mu Shuxin's heart skipped a beat, and she looked at Wen Li in shock.
Xie Zhan then emerged from the gourd.
Upon learning that his lair had suddenly collapsed, the ghost was utterly terrified.
His remains are still inside!
"That son of a bitch! He dared to trespass on my territory! Wen Li, you better find the culprit and teach them a lesson they won't forget!"
Xie Zhan kept chattering away, and Wen Li finally lost her patience: "Shut up."
Mu Shuxin watched as Wen Li spoke to thin air once again; they had become familiar with each other over the past few months.
Knowing that the emperor who was always by his disciple's side was a chatterbox, he was probably furious to see the tomb destroyed.
The local police arrived at this point and helped Mu Shuxin evacuate the archaeologists.
Wen Li discreetly left the crowd and went to check the situation near the tomb.
The entire cemetery is very large; it takes at least an hour to walk around it.
Sure enough, halfway through the journey, Wen Li discovered burnt talismans and bloodstains at the entrance of one of the passageways.
Wen Li checked the entrance to the tunnel and found it to be completely dark inside. However, when she turned on her flashlight, she could see that the tunnel had not completely collapsed.
"Xie Zhan, go ahead and scout ahead to see if we can get in."
"Okay." Xie Zhan was preoccupied with avenging his family, so he nodded and walked into the passage without thinking. But less than three seconds later, he turned back and said timidly, "It's too dark. I'm a little scared."
Wen Li: "...Why are you, a ghost, so afraid of the dark!"
Xie Zhan felt extremely wronged.
Wen Li continued, "Don't blame me for not warning you. It's likely that someone has set up an array in the tomb to protect you. In the end, not only will they not be able to send you to be reincarnated, but you might not even be able to keep your soul."
After saying that, Wen Li glanced at him lightly: "Don't you want to see Jiang Yihuan anymore?"
Xie Zhan shuddered, then rushed into the half-collapsed tunnel, leaving only the words, "Wait for me!"
After a while, Xie Zhan came out panting, his face filled with terror.
Before Wen Li could speak, Xie Zhan said, "Wen Li, you really didn't lie to me. There really are people inside, and they're after me. I almost got caught when I went in just now."
Wen Li's expression hardened, and she quickly asked, "Did you see how many people there were?"
Xie Zhan recalled, "There were so many, at least twenty or thirty people. Luckily, I ran fast, or I would have been killed by them. But they were shouting something about capturing the Ghost King... were they talking about me?"
Wen Li gave Xie Zhan a look.
Xie Zhan understood.
He is the Ghost King.
but……
"Me? The Ghost King?"
Which ghost king is more pathetic than him? He directly kowtows and begs for mercy to an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl.
Seeing that Wen Li was silent, Xie Zhan felt a sudden, tight grip on his chest, which had been feeling like it had no heartbeat. He clutched his chest and ran behind Wen Li, looking around warily. He asked anxiously, "At least say something! I've done my part these past few months, even if I haven't done anything particularly remarkable. I still want to live to see Huanhuan. Why don't we just leave?"
"You can't leave." Wen Li said calmly, "Your and Jiang Yihuan's remains are still inside. You haven't been reincarnated yet, so others can use your remains to control you. Besides, can you tolerate anyone touching Jiang Yihuan's remains?"
