Wen Li spoke softly, in a voice only the two of them could hear.
The accompanying police officer stared at her in astonishment, and it took him a while to react: "What did you say?"
Wen Li didn't have time to explain: "Let's call them over first, otherwise neither of us will be able to leave."
The cell phone lost signal as soon as we arrived in the village, and we couldn't even make a call to the police.
The police officer hesitated for a long time, but seeing the unwavering look in Wen Li's eyes, he nodded and said, "Then be careful. If you notice anything amiss, run. I'll come back to you once I find a place with a signal."
"Um."
Wen Li nodded, and the policeman turned and left.
A short while later, the village chief came downstairs. Seeing that the police were nowhere to be seen, he asked, "Where's Officer Zhang?"
Wen Li glanced at the village chief, her expression unchanged: "Officer Zhang said he has something urgent to attend to and needs to go back. By the way, may I wander around the village by myself?"
Since Wen Li had put it this way, the village chief had no reason to refuse.
Wen Li exchanged a few polite words and then strolled around the neighborhood as if admiring the scenery.
The village chief watched Wen Li's departing figure, and his gaze suddenly darkened.
The village was quite large, with about two or three hundred households. Elderly people, children, and even young people could be seen everywhere, but almost everyone kept their doors and windows closed. Wen Li only glanced at it casually and did not linger.
The village is surrounded by high mountains, with winding paths that are only one lane wide. Looking up, the lush green forests are covered with a layer of white snow, shrouded in mist, creating a vast expanse of white.
In reality, the village is located in a low-lying area, and it is shrouded in white mist year-round when viewed from the mountain. Only when the sun comes out, around noon, will the mist dissipate from the low-lying area.
People standing here don't feel this way.
Wen Li spent about ten minutes walking around the edge of the village, then turned and left, disappearing into the village.
Just after Wen Li left, Yuan Changxu, who had been drunkenly going upstairs to rest, suddenly appeared by a low earthen wall. Watching Wen Li's figure disappear completely, Yuan Changxu took out his phone and said, "Second Uncle, the cops are all gone. We must move those people as soon as possible tonight."
After saying that, Yuan Changxu hung up the phone.
He was about to turn around when he suddenly saw a figure appear in front of him, which startled him so much that he almost had a heart attack.
However, it was only after he clearly saw who the other person was that his heart truly stopped.
"It's you!"
Yuan Changxu was filled with hostility and fear towards Wen Li, who appeared before him like a ghost.
He clearly saw Wen Li disappear before his eyes just now, so why did she suddenly appear behind him?
Yuan Changxu narrowed his eyes: "What did you hear?"
Wen Li countered, "You just mentioned cops?"
"Tiaozi" was originally a slang term used by gangsters in Guangdong to refer to the police.
Wen Li's eyes were filled with frost as she looked coldly at Yuan Changxu and asked again, "And who is the person you mentioned who you transferred? Is it the person we're looking for?"
Wen Li pressed on relentlessly, giving Yuan Changxu absolutely no chance to catch his breath.
Yuan Changxu panicked for a brief moment, but quickly regained his composure: "I don't understand what you're saying, little girl. I was speaking in our hometown dialect just now. You must have misheard me."
Wen Li didn't speak, just stared straight at him.
Yuan Changxu reached into his pocket, his eyes darkening.
He tried to dial the number in his pocket without making a sound, but a pair of soft, delicate fingers pinched his arm. Although they seemed to have no strength, his hand slowly emerged from the pocket and bent in an extremely twisted way.
Yuan Changxu heard his bones breaking inch by inch, and sweat quickly soaked the back of his clothes. He was about to cry out when Wen Li suddenly stretched out her other hand, and what seemed to be a yellow talisman slapped towards him. He looked down but saw nothing.
But as the excruciating pain struck, Won Chang-wook found himself unable to scream no matter how hard he tried.
"You want to report the news to the village chief?"
Looking at Yuan Changxu's contorted face, Wen Li continued to tighten her grip: "Will you talk or not?"
Yuan Changxu shook his head frantically, his veins bulging from the pain.
Seeing this, Wen Li stopped talking and kicked Yuan Changxu in the knee, her voice low and menacing: "I'll ask you one more time, are you going to tell me or not?"
Yuan Changxu was in so much pain that he couldn't bear it anymore, but he knew in his heart that he had to deny it no matter what.
Moreover, there's only Wen Li here now. With so many able-bodied young men in their village, are they really afraid of a little girl?
Yuan Changxu nodded with difficulty and said in a hoarse voice, "I...I'll talk."
Wen Li then released the person.
Yuan Changxu collapsed onto the dusty ground with a thud, and it took him a long time to recover.
Wen Li wasn't in a hurry and waited patiently for Yuan Changxu to stand up: "Where is the missing person?"
Yuan Changxu's hand was broken, and his right hand hung limply at his chest. The intense pain stimulated his nerves, but he still spoke in a hoarse voice: "You, you come with me."
Wen Li followed behind Yuan Changxu.
As Yuan Changxu walked, he silently observed Wen Li behind him, gradually distancing himself from her.
Just as they were about to reach the center of the village, Yuan Changxu suddenly took off running, shouting, "Help—"
The sound stopped abruptly.
Because Wen Li suddenly appeared in front of him, Yuan Changxu stumbled and fell flat on his face.
He stared at Wen Li in a daze, as if looking at a monster: "You, how could you suddenly..."
