Chen Cang blinked.
Wen Li stared at his neck, and even though they were far apart, she could still smell the faint floral fragrance emanating from him.
Wen Li... Could Wen Li have fallen for him?
But he had neither money nor face; the only thing he could offer was two hundred yuan left for living expenses.
Can I see what's on your neck?
Wen Li's voice was tender and soft, and Chen Cang blushed. He couldn't hear a word Wen Li was saying.
It wasn't until his roommate nudged his arm that Chen Cang realized what was happening: "What?"
Wen Li had already distanced herself from Chen Cang, and pointed to his neck: "I want to see what you're wearing around your neck."
Chen Cang then realized he had made a misunderstanding and was extremely embarrassed. He hurriedly took off the thing around his neck and handed it to Wen Li.
Wen Li took the object, a plaque about half the size of her palm, covered with colorful and intricate patterns. The small plaque was painted with mineral pigments depicting clouds, mountains, seas, flowers, birds, trees, and a Buddha statue in the center, exuding an imposing aura and encompassing everything.
After glancing at it, Wen Li respectfully returned the item and asked, "Are you Tibetan?"
Chen Cang shook his head.
Wen Li explained, "The thing you're wearing around your neck is called a Tibetan Thangka. The Buddha image on it is Padmasambhava, and it's used to ward off evil spirits."
Chen Cang immediately widened his eyes and gripped the Thangka tighter in an instant.
“My grandfather made me wear this when I was little. He did say it was for protection, but I never knew it was so effective. I thought it was fake.”
“There are indeed many fakes on the market, such as tsa-tsa and dzi beads, which are the most common fakes. But your Thangka has been blessed by a master. Wearing it with sincerity will ensure your lifelong safety and well-being.”
Chen Cang immediately and carefully put the Thangka around his neck.
He explained, “This was given to my grandfather by a lama he rescued in Tibet when he was repairing the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. My grandfather is 97 years old this year and can still eat, drink and sleep well every day.”
“That master is truly capable,” Wen Li said. “Because you have the protection of Guru Padmasambhava, everyone in the dormitory except you was possessed by a demon. And because of the protection of the Thangka, you were able to wake up your possessed roommate.”
Chen Cang opened his mouth in shock, staring at Wen Li in disbelief.
"Then, what do we do now? Will that ghost come looking for us again?"
Wen Li nodded, and Chen Cang and his roommate felt like the sky was falling.
They never imagined that they would inexplicably attract the attention of a vengeful ghost.
“That vengeful ghost probably didn’t want to harm you,” Wen Li suddenly said. “It must have had some unfulfilled wish in its previous life.”
Chen Cang was taken aback: "So, all we have to do is help him fulfill his dying wish?"
Wen Li nodded: "That's how it is in theory."
"What do you mean by 'theoretically'?" Chen Cang had a bad feeling.
Wen Li: "Ghosts who can linger in the human world are usually quite stubborn in life and may not be easy to talk to. There is also another possibility... that they may have forgotten what their wish was."
Having caught so many ghosts, Wen Li has probably figured out what those ghosts wandering in the world are like.
Wen Li immediately replied, "Let's take it one step at a time."
Chen Cang and his roommate looked utterly desperate: "If possible, could you please catch the ghost as soon as possible?"
Wenli:? ? ?
Chen Cang looked utterly devastated: "Final exams are coming up soon, and we're medical students..."
Wenli:......
That night, Wen Li rented a house near the school. Chen Cang had taken her to the boys' dormitory during the day, so that she could get there immediately if anything happened in the dormitory.
Sure enough, by 3 a.m., the world was completely quiet, and most of the college students who had stayed up all night were already asleep.
While waiting for news from Chen Cang, Wen Li looked at the documents in her hands.
Soon, Wen Li's phone rang.
Chen Cang: "Master, Wu Zhihuai has been possessed again. He's shouting that he wants to go back, and he's already heading downstairs!"
Chen Cang: "Master, come quickly!"
Wen Li immediately opened the door and quickly arrived at the wall near the school. Seeing that there was no one on either side, she climbed over the wall and entered the school.
Apart from a few dim streetlights, everything inside the school was quiet.
Meanwhile, Chen Cang and his roommates followed nervously behind the possessed Wu Zhihuai, their hearts pounding in their chests.
Wen Li told them that if their roommate was possessed again, they should not disturb him and should let him do whatever he wanted as long as there was no danger.
In just a few minutes, Wu Zhihuai, who was possessed, had already tiptoed to the iron door of the hall.
That night, the dormitory manager locked the main gate. Wu Zhihuai reached out and grabbed the iron gate, but couldn't open it for a long time. Gradually, his grip tightened, and he held the iron gate harder and harder.
Wu Zhihuai's voice grew increasingly agitated: "I want to go back... I want to go back..."
My roommate behind me was so scared he almost fainted.
Chen Cang secretly sent a message: "Master (crying), when will you be able to come? That ghost can't get out and is starting to go crazy!"
The next second, Wen Li appeared at the iron gate, slightly out of breath.
When her roommate saw Wen Li, her face lit up instantly.
Chen Cang lowered his voice and asked, "Master, Wu Zhihuai was possessed about ten minutes ago. The possession is still the same as that day; we can't wake him up no matter what we do."
Wen Li nodded.
Her gaze was fixed on Wu Zhihuai, who was emanating a thick ghostly aura. What the others couldn't see was that behind Wu Zhihuai was a man with a charred face, wearing tattered cotton clothes, with a wound the size of a bowl cut into his stomach, exposing his intestines, and with no healthy flesh on his arms and legs.
"I want to go back..."
The ghost continued walking forward, but was locked by the iron gate, and the sound grew louder and louder.
Chen Cang hurriedly said, "Master, if we make too much noise, we might attract the attention of the dormitory manager."
As soon as he finished speaking, Wu Zhihuai, who was possessed, suddenly pounded on the iron door violently, making a loud clanging sound.
