Chapter 11 Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Conflicts: An Age-Old Problem

"Mom, my sister has finally been found. Shouldn't we have a huge family reunion dinner?"

Shu Xueyin knew that Shu Lingyi's initiative to hug her was to prevent her from hugging Yu Mowan, so she wisely changed the subject.

She proposed the family reunion dinner for two reasons: first, to let Yun Yun and the others know that she genuinely welcomes Yu Mowan back; and second, to probe their thoughts and gain a better understanding of their perspectives.

Yun Yun and Shu Xueyin had been adoptive mother and daughter for many years, so Yun Yun knew more or less what Shu Xueyin was thinking.

"It depends on what Wanwan thinks. If she prefers to keep a low profile, then she can simply invite the family members to a meal to celebrate her being recognized."

The clouds seem to conceal a path that is both real and illusory.

What they feared was that if Shu Xueyin found out, she would run to Fu Rong and pretend to cry, causing the banquet to be canceled. So they decided to take a surprise attack.

She will naturally find a way to make the banquet happen on that day.

Shu Xueyin looked at Yu Mowan.

"Does my sister want to do it?"

She asked with an innocent and sweet expression.

Without giving Yu Mowan a chance to answer, she continued, "I wanted my sister to do it, so that everyone would know I have a beautiful older sister."

Yu Mowan knew how to retort. She raised an eyebrow and said calmly, "Then let's do it."

Look how good she is as the older sister; she's the one who best fulfills her younger sister's wishes.

"..."

Shu Xueyin almost couldn't maintain her smile.

"Forget it, let's not do it. I don't like too many people."

Yu Mowan glanced at her out of the corner of her eye, then changed the subject.

Shu Xueyin felt like she was on a Ferris wheel, her emotions fluctuating wildly. Her round almond-shaped eyes widened slightly, somewhat incredulous: "Sister, have you really thought it through? You really don't want to do it?"

As soon as she said it, she realized she had been too eager and quickly tried to save face, saying, "Sister, I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted you to have a big celebration so I could introduce you to many of my friends in the industry."

"Then let's do it..."

Yu Mowan's words made Shu Xueyin's heart leap into her throat, but she said lightly, "Let's not do it, it's too boring."

"..."

Shu Xueyin was furious.

She felt that Yu Mowan was just playing her for a fool.

"Sister, it's okay. Whether you do it or not, it's the best thing for me."

After a while, Shu Xueyin composed herself and said in a doting tone, "I love my sister."

"Since you're new to the Shu family, would you like me to show you around?"

She pointed outside and spoke in the manner of the lady of the house.

Yu Mowan declined, saying, "No need. I just sat on a plane for several hours and I'm tired and want to sleep."

Shu Xueyin didn't insist.

"Mom, let's go, don't disturb my sister's sleep."

She naturally and affectionately took Yunyun's hand, "When my sister wakes up, we'll take her sightseeing and let her meet her family."

Yun Yun's body stiffened slightly; she didn't like the mother-daughter relationship that Shu Xueyin was portraying with her.

"Xueyin, your sister is new here and I'm worried she might have trouble sleeping in the new bed. I'll stay here with her. You and Chu Xiao can go out."

Yun Yun calmly brushed Shu Xueyin's hand away and said.

The five Shu brothers were very perceptive and said to Shu Xueyin, "Xueyin, let's go, we want to drink the rose tea you brewed."

Shu Xueyin seemed oblivious to Yun Yun's resistance to her intimacy, and left with the five of them.

After everyone left, Yun Yun frowned and looked down at the arm that Shu Xueyin had linked with.

Yu Mowan handed her a bottle of perfume.

"This is my homemade perfume. Spraying it on will eliminate the smell left by others on you."

Seeing Yun Yun's suspicious look, Yu Mowan casually offered an explanation.

Yun Yun was slightly taken aback, then smiled and accepted the perfume she was given.

After the perfume faded and the lingering scent of Shu Xueyin remained on her arm, she looked up at Yu Mowan, "Wanwan, can you tell that I'm resistant to her?"

"I prefer to observe."

Yu Mo Wan Dao.

Her experiences over the years have made her accustomed to observing before speaking; the people and things around her easily catch her eye, allowing her to quickly judge and make decisions that benefit herself.

Upon hearing this, Yun Yun felt a pang of pain in her heart.

What must her daughter have gone through to develop such a cautious and meticulous personality?

"Wanwan, you've worked hard."

Yun Yun raised her hand and touched Yu Mowan's face, feeling sorry for her.

Yu Mowan smiled faintly, "Mom, you may not believe it, but I am very fortunate to have had these experiences over the years."

Without these experiences, she would have become a flower grown in a greenhouse, seemingly happy, but utterly defenseless when danger comes.

Yunyun knew she was telling the truth, but her heart still ached.

“Wanwan, Mom knows you are strong, but if I could, I would prefer you to be a carefree little princess.”

Yun Yun said sincerely, "You have us, so you don't need to work too hard."

The only princess of the Shu family, with five older brothers protecting her, any other woman could walk sideways in Kyoto's high society.

Yu Mowan just smiled.

She's way past the age of a little princess.

"Xueyin is the granddaughter of your grandmother's old friend. Her parents died early, and her grandmother died while saving your grandmother. Out of gratitude, your grandmother took her back to the Shu family."

Yun Yun recounted Shu Xueyin's origins, "Originally, I advocated raising her as the child of an old friend, so that I could repay the debt of gratitude and leave a bloodline for the family. But your grandmother, for some reason, insisted that I adopt her as my daughter."

At this point, her brow furrowed unconsciously, revealing her dislike for this forced memory. "I had just lost you not long before, and I was heartbroken. I was resistant to acknowledging someone else's daughter, and I almost broke down and got into a fight with your grandmother..."

Before she could finish speaking, Yu Mowan reached out and hugged her, saying gently, "Mom, if you don't want to remember, then don't. I know you don't like them."
