Chapter 29 Asking the Sect Master to be a Bodyguard

"What is it?"

"Here's the thing, the competition is tomorrow, and a few of us are planning to go to the market down the mountain today to buy some local specialties for our fellow disciples, and maybe we can even find some things for ourselves."

“Go ahead,” Shi Mingxiu said kindly, “Be careful.”

"Alright~!" Shi Xuan smiled happily and asked, "Is there anything the Sect Master needs? I'll bring it back for you as well."

She even knows to ask him if he needs anything; she's a polite and good child.

Shi Mingxiu: "There's nothing you need to bring, just go ahead."

Shi Xuan smiled and said, "Then we're off!" She turned and walked towards the door.

Lu Wenxing followed behind her, puzzled. Wasn't she supposed to bring the sect leader along? Junior Sister hadn't mentioned it at all. She must have been joking after all.

The two left the room in the blink of an eye, and had already taken five or six steps outside. At this moment, Shi Xuan suddenly said to Lu Wenxing, "Second Senior Brother, I heard that Fan Hongde is going to accompany his daughter to the market to shop. If we run into him, he will try to kill me. Do you think you can beat him?"

Lu Wenxing was so shocked by her words that he jumped up and exclaimed, "What are you talking about? He's a Nascent Soul cultivator, and I'm a Golden Core cultivator. Do you know how far apart Nascent Soul and Golden Core are? Not to mention the levels beyond my Golden Core, there's even a Nascent Soul realm in between! Are you new to the sect and don't have a complete understanding of cultivation levels yet? But even if you don't know, you should be able to tell from my appearance, right? Do I look like someone who could beat the sect leader?"

Shi Xuan actually stopped and looked him over, then shook his head and said, "He doesn't seem like it. Well then, if we run into him, let's run away."

“I’m afraid you can’t outrun him.” Lu Wenxing felt that she had a wrong perception of herself. “You should pray that you don’t run into those two. If you do, you should run first. Although I can’t beat him, I can hold him off.”

"No, Second Senior Brother!" Shi Xuan's voice was on the verge of tears: "If you die because you shielded me from him, what am I supposed to do! How can I explain this to Master when I return to the sect!"

Shi Mingxiu, who was inside the room, heard the whole thing. Although they had already left the room, how could a Nascent Soul cultivator escape the ears of someone speaking at such close range? The two of them were speaking so loudly that it was no different from them talking right next to him.

At first, it seemed to make sense, but the more I listened, the more it seemed like the two of them were putting on a show, one singing and the other harmonizing. If they kept talking, the entire sect's disciples would be in trouble.

This is truly unfair to Lu Wenxing; he still hasn't realized that Shi Xuan is setting him up.

Shi Mingxiu cleared his throat. "Shi Xuan, you two come in." His voice wasn't loud, but the two of them heard him very clearly.

Shi Xuan raised an eyebrow, immediately turned around, jumped high, and returned to the sect leader's room.

"You two little brats, talking so loudly at my door, do you think I'm deaf?"

"Hehe..." Shi Xuan scratched his head, his bright eyes looking at the sect leader, everything was understood without words.

Lu Wenxing was stunned for a moment, but in the end he was not completely stunned. Combining what Shi Xuan had said before he came, he seemed to understand Shi Xuan's intention. He couldn't help but sigh inwardly at his junior sister's cunning.

"Alright, I'll accompany you today." Although it was intentional, what she said wasn't without reason. Given Fan Hongde's fierce demeanor last night, he might actually come out and cause them trouble.

The disciples accompany the sect leader on his trips, so how could we allow them to have an accident in the outer sect? We have to protect them more than ever.

With his little scheme succeeding, Shi Xuan grinned from ear to ear, shouting slogans like, "Sect Leader is mighty! May the Sect Leader's blessings last for ten thousand generations, and may his cultivation be without any bottlenecks!"

Shi Mingxiu laughed and said, "You're so glib!"

Although he was going out with his disciples, Shi Mingxiu did not intend to show himself. He would only follow a short distance away from his disciples, hiding his figure, and would not easily make a move unless his life was in danger.

The market of Fuyuan Sect was especially lively after the six major sects gathered. Many disciples were visiting Fuyuan Sect for the first time and wanted to go out and explore.

The street was lined with shops, mostly selling pills, talismans, or magical ornaments. Shi Xuan browsed through a few shops but found nothing particularly special, so he continued further in, heading towards another street where there were many street vendors.

Most of these vendors are independent cultivators, but occasionally you can also see sect disciples returning from their training trips or ordinary people whose ancestors were cultivators.

With so many people around these days, the vendors' voices are especially loud as they try to attract customers.

Shi Xuan glanced at it and found that the items on the street stalls were much more interesting than those in the shops. Besides spiritual herbs and magical treasures, there were many other things he couldn't name.

The disciples from Hundred Herbs Peak behind him had already started buying up items, stockpiling whatever they could find that were cheaper than those from the Refining Edge Sword Sect. Shi Xuan, however, found nothing appealing; perhaps it was because he had acquired so many good things in the past that his taste had become too discerning.

"Junior Sister, didn't you say you were going out to buy things? Why haven't you bought anything yet?" Lu Wenxing had already bought three items, and seeing that Shi Xuan's hands were still empty, he asked her.

"I guess I haven't met the right item yet."

As they were talking, a plant on a stall caught her eye. The medicinal herb had dark yellow branches and pale yellow leaves that were thinner at the front and wider at the back. Shi Xuan recognized it at a glance as an old yucca.

This medicinal herb is very rare, and it's not used in ordinary elixirs, so most people who need it have to find it themselves, and it's quite difficult to find it in the market. Most importantly, if we want to refine a Resurrection Pill for our senior brother in the future, this Phoenix Tail Orchid is a key ingredient.

Shi Xuan walked over, picked up the phoenix tail orchid, and asked, "How much is this herb?"

The stall owner was a young girl, probably someone who had acquired the item through her travels. It was unclear what it was, but she had put it up for sale. She glanced at Shi Xuan, who didn't seem particularly excited about finding a treasure, and concluded it was probably just an ordinary medicinal herb.

She pursed her lips and said, "Ten mid-grade spirit stones." She was deliberately asking for a higher price, leaving room for the customer to negotiate.

For a yucca, this price is quite cheap.

Shi Xuan didn't intend to haggle with her and simply said, "Okay..."

Before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by another voice not far behind her. The female voice was soft and gentle, but the words she spoke were very unpleasant: "I'll offer twenty mid-grade spirit stones."

It's Fan Mingzhu.

She was still wearing her ethereal white dress, and gracefully walked closer, looking innocent as she said, "Junior sister, I really need this phoenix tail orchid. Please let me take this one." As she spoke, she reached out to take the spiritual herb from Shi Xuan's hand.

Shi Xuan took a step back, avoiding her hand, and sneered, "Really need it? If you need it, then it must be for alchemy. Fan Mingzhu, if you can give me a formula for an alchemy that uses this spiritual herb, I'll give it to you, how about it?"
