Chapter 119 Eating Peking Duck

He Tingchuan took Yun Jin on the bus to the roast duck restaurant he thought was delicious.

This was Yun Jin's first time visiting the capital city depicted in the book. It was different from the capital city she remembered. This was a capital city that had not yet been developed, with low-rise buildings and courtyard houses everywhere.

The people on the street were dressed in black, gray, and blue, which was very characteristic of this era.

Yun Jin and Xiao Niangao looked out the window. He Tingchuan looked at her and saw that she was very interested and enjoying herself. He Tingchuan said, "I'll take you and your daughter to have a good time sightseeing during this period."

"Want to climb the Great Wall?"

Yun Jin nodded: "But I can't climb too far. If Xiao Niangao goes too, you'll have to take full responsibility for the whole trip."

"I'll take responsibility, I'll definitely take responsibility for my daughter." He Tingchuan was in a good mood.

"Going to the Forbidden City?"

"good!"

"Shall we go for a stroll in the garden?"

"Go wherever you want, we'll go. You could sell us and I'd still count the money for you." Yun Jin clung to He Tingchuan's arm and acted coquettishly, making He Tingchuan's lips curl into a smile.

"Tsk!"

Before He Tingchuan could say anything, the old woman next to him couldn't help but say, "Can't you two tone it down a bit in public? Your cheesy behavior is really an eyesore. There's more than just your family on this bus. Aren't you ashamed?"

Yun Jin retorted, "We're legally married, we have a marriage certificate. Saying a few cheesy things isn't illegal, is it?"

"Besides, who says couples can't say sweet nothings to each other? It's not like it's for you to hear. You don't have to listen. Don't whine and complain just to get attention!" These words left the old woman speechless for a moment.

Yun Jin didn't want to listen to anyone lecturing her anymore.

He Tingchuan's eyes turned slightly cold: "Auntie, just tell me if you have any opinions."

The old woman stopped He Tingchuan with a menacing look in her eyes, and he chickened out.

Seeing the young couple's attitude, the old lady couldn't say anything on her own.

She wisely kept quiet.

Upon arriving at their destination, Yun Jin and He Tingchuan got off the bus carrying Xiao Niangao. As soon as they left, the old woman spat, "Shameless! The world is going to the dogs. That woman has no shame."

The older sister-in-law standing nearby said, "They didn't say anything. Besides, they're husband and wife, not having an affair. It's their freedom to say whatever they want. You can just ignore it."

"That's right, that's right."

"The baby they're holding is so cute!"

"They're so succulent, they look so easy to care for!"

aunt:"......"

The restaurant recommended by He Tingchuan, a local, was indeed delicious. The roast duck was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the side dishes were tasty. Yun Jin ate more than a dozen pancakes by herself; she had a really good appetite.

Little Niangao was eager to do it herself, but unfortunately she was too young to eat roast duck.

They ate almost all of the roast duck, and He Tingchuan packed up the rest to take back to the dogs in the compound.

Since they were already there, and there was a shopping mall nearby, He Tingchuan and Yun Jia decided to go there to get some jadeite rough stones. They figured they should at least buy some gifts, so they went to a pastry shop and bought some pastries that locals liked.

I also bought some handicrafts for He's parents, which I brought from their place of residence, but they were still a bit thin.

After strolling around for a while and almost spending all their tickets, the couple reluctantly took their sleeping baby back home.

While they were enjoying their leisure time, He Zizhen and her parents almost had a falling out at home.

He Zizhen packed her things to leave, and her parents didn't try to stop her. They watched her walk away with her schoolbag on her back, but He Ziqian stopped her, saying, "What are you doing? Go apologize to your grandparents. Just apologize to your aunt when she comes back, and that'll be the end of it."

"You're still a child, your aunt won't hold it against you."

"I don't want to! I don't want to apologize to people from the countryside!" He Zizhen retorted stubbornly.

Mr. He spoke up: "Going back two generations, my grandfather also came from the countryside. Do you think you're superior just because you were born in Beijing?"

“That’s because I have a good grandfather,” He Zizhen said proudly.

Mr. He laughed angrily: "Yes, you have a good grandfather, so you can look down on people?"

That's what He Zizhen meant.

Seeing that she showed no remorse and was still so self-righteous and arrogant, Mr. He said harshly, "It seems that I've been too good to you and you don't know how hard life is in the countryside."

“Well then, there are still some spots left for going to the countryside this year. You don’t study hard, so why don’t you go to the countryside early to get some experience? Let’s go to the Northwest.” In a fit of anger, Father He decided to give his rebellious granddaughter a good lesson.

Sister-in-law He panicked: "Dad, Zizhen is only 14 years old!"

“She’ll never know anything even at 24, so it’s better to let her suffer a little beforehand,” Mr. He said firmly.

Sister-in-law He could only turn to her mother for help: "Mom, Zizhen was raised by you, how can you bear to let her go to the countryside?"

Going to the countryside is tough; anyone who's been there knows.

Many people in Beijing were unemployed and sent to the countryside. Sister-in-law He was glad that she had a job early on and that her two children hadn't been sent there either, thinking she could escape this ordeal. Who knew that her father-in-law would actually send his daughter to the countryside for the sake of a daughter-in-law from the countryside.

Sister-in-law He absolutely disagreed.

Mother He didn't want her pampered granddaughter to go to the countryside. She had experienced those hardships when she was young, and she didn't want her granddaughter to go through them again.

Mother He said, "Apologize to your grandfather, and apologize to your aunt when she comes back. As long as your aunt isn't angry, we'll still be family. There's no need to mention going to the countryside."

He Zizhen looked at her grandfather: "Are you really going to send me to the countryside?"

"If you don't repent, I'll send you to get some training." Mr. He was waiting for He Zizhen to soften her tone.

He Zizhen burst into tears: "Fine, you despise me now that you have another granddaughter? Fine, I'll go to the countryside. What's the big deal? You're just biased anyway!"
