Little Rice Cake loves riding the train.
She became interested in the train after boarding, and when it was time to get off, she didn't want to. If Yun Jin hadn't been holding her, she probably would have stayed on the train and refused to get off.
Yun Jin was both amused and exasperated: "Doubao is still waiting for us at home. How about we bring Doubao with us next time? And next time Daddy will take us to ride the train!"
Little Niangao's attention was drawn to Doubao, so she hugged her mother's neck and followed her onto the train, without crying or fussing, saying in her childish voice, "I'll come again next time."
“Come on, Daddy brought us here!” Yun Jin nodded affirmatively.
Little Niangao looked at He Tingchuan expectantly and said in a babyish voice, "Daddy, come here!"
He Tingchuan's usually aloof face immediately broke into a doting smile: "Alright, Daddy brought you here. Little Rice Cake, would you like to come into Daddy's arms?"
"Daddy, hug me!" Little Rice Cake exclaimed excitedly.
Yun Jin held on tightly, saying, "You're carrying so much stuff, and this child is being noisy, so I can just hold him."
He Tingchuan shook his head: "It's okay, I have plenty of strength. It's just a few bags. I can carry one on my back, hold one in my hand, and even hang one on my arm. I can hold Xiao Niangao with one hand."
As he said this, both father and daughter stared at her expectantly.
With her two bright, sparkling eyes, it would be hard for Yun Jin to refuse.
"Don't move around when you're in Daddy's arms, okay? Mommy won't take care of you if you fall!" Yun Jin handed the child over.
Little Rice Cake nestled in her father's arms and happily promised, "I won't move, I'll be the best girl!"
"Yes, my daughter is the best!" He Tingchuan lowered his head and kissed Xiao Niangao on the cheek. Xiao Niangao was not stingy with her own kisses and gave her father a big kiss on the cheek.
Upon exiting the train station, Li Aiguo and his sister Li Aimei came to pick them up.
I saw them from afar and waved excitedly.
Li Aimei jogged forward and said, "Brother, sister-in-law, you're finally back! Does Xiao Niangao still recognize me?"
"Auntie Aimei!" Little Rice Cake called out loudly.
Li Aimei was delighted: "Yes, it's me! Little Rice Cake, did you miss me?"
"I missed Doubao!" She meant that she missed Doubao, but not her.
What Li Aimei heard was, "I miss you, and Doubao!"
"Auntie misses you too, can Auntie give me a hug?" Li Aimei reached out her hand.
Little Rice Cake was unhappy and turned around to hug her father, as if afraid of being taken away. This made He Tingchuan secretly happy. Sure enough, his daughter still wanted to like him more so that she wouldn't be taken away by someone else!
Yun Jin: "......"
Li Aimei wasn't angry about being rejected. Fortunately, she knew that children are like that; they are very affectionate when they are with their loved ones. And the other person wasn't stupid; they knew who was the closest to them.
Little Rice Cake Mom, Little Rice Cake Dad, and her.
As long as her parents are around, it's very difficult for me to take her away.
Li Aimei is already very happy to be ranked third. It's better than her older brother, who doesn't even rank and is not even as good as Doubao, a dog!
"Brother Chuan, the car is outside, just a few steps away. It's cold in Beijing, isn't it?" Li Aiguo took the package from He Tingchuan. He had to admit that Brother Chuan was indeed Brother Chuan, a man carrying nearly 100 pounds of weight.
Despite carrying so much luggage, I was still out of breath.
Holding a baby in her arms, amazing!
Then look at my sister-in-law, who only has a diaper bag. Brother Chuan really spoils his wife; he doesn't even let her bring anything when they go out.
He Tingchuan was cold and indifferent to everyone except his wife and daughter. He nodded and pulled Yun Jin toward the car, as if afraid she would get lost.
Yun Jin could only follow.
Li Aimei nudged Li Aiguo with her elbow from behind: "Learn from him, look how good Brother Chuan is to his wife."
Li Aiguo: "......"
Brother, you feel like a stranger to me!
How could my sister-in-law have fallen down such a short distance?
My sister-in-law doesn't look like the type to get lost!
Once in the car, the family of three sat in the back, with Li Aimei in the passenger seat and Li Aiguo driving.
The residence is not close to the train station; it takes almost an hour to drive to the entrance of the family compound. Although it is far from the city center, the transportation is relatively convenient.
Little Rice Cake fell asleep as soon as she got on the bus. Knowing she was going home, she was excited the whole way. Now that her battery was low, she went into sleep mode.
Yun Jin wanted to hold the sleeping Xiao Niangao, but He Tingchuan was afraid of tiring her out, so he told her to just carry her own small bag. He said that Li Aiguo and Li Aimei, the brother and sister, would help with their luggage.
Yun Jin could only trouble her brother and sister to go back a few steps ahead to open the door.
I haven't stayed here for a few days, but the house is just as clean and tidy as when I left, only lacking a bit of human warmth.
Yun Jin put down her bag, made the bed, and let Xiao Niangao sleep. She opened her luggage, found the fabric she had prepared for Li Aimei, and gave the pastries to Li Aiguo: "Thank you for your hard work. We'll invite you over for dinner once we're settled."
Li Aimei and her siblings felt embarrassed: "No need for a meal, we've already gotten such good food, we're getting a great deal."
"We're family, no questions asked. Just come when the time comes." Yun Jin exchanged a few pleasantries with them, but He Tingchuan still had to light the stove and fetch hot water, so he didn't have time to entertain them. He gave Li Aiguo a look that told him to get lost.
Many people saw them return along the way, and neighbors came to visit. Yun Jin reminded them not to be too noisy, as Xiao Niangao was sleeping.
We took out the candy we bought, and each of us took a handful. The five or six pounds of candy we bought were gone in no time.
Sister-in-law Gao and the others had a good relationship, and Yun Jin even gave her a box of pastries. These were famous pastries in the capital, and they were very sweet. In this era when oil and sugar were scarce, pastries were very popular, unlike people in later generations who only found them cloyingly sweet and didn't like to eat them.
Sister-in-law Gao was surprised to find pastries, but accepted them somewhat embarrassedly and extended a lunch invitation: "Let's eat at home for lunch, just some noodles, it's no big deal to cook an extra batch."
"No need, I haven't finished the food I brought on the train." Yun Jin declined the lunch invitation, knowing that they were short of food and she felt bad about eating and drinking for free.
