Yun Jin finalized the new stall location and went back to tell Gao's sister-in-law, Li Aimei. They knew the place; they had lived there for several years, so how could they not know that vacant lot?
Unexpectedly, Yun Jin chose that.
Yun Jin noticed their lack of enthusiasm, so she explained, "Don't be fooled by how you feel now. Once we tidy up and set things up a bit, you'll see."
After saying that, Yun Jin asked Gao's eldest daughter to watch over Xiao Niangao while the three of them went to check on the area. The weeds and other debris on the open space had been cleared away.
Many rural women also helped weave curtains from dry straw to build a thatched house.
Of course, not the ugly kind, but the modern style that fits Yun Jin's aesthetic.
A low fence made of wood and bamboo was built around the open space, giving it a rustic, bourgeois feel.
The open space was paved with stones, all pebbles carried from the riverbank. For just two cents a meal, the half-grown kids who had nothing to do during summer vacation could work hard.
Soon, the ground was covered with pebbles, and Yun Jin even drew a picture shape, with ducks, rabbits, cows, horses, and puppies.
When Xiao Niangao woke up, Gao Min brought her over. Seeing so many pebbles and sand, she happily dug in the sand and played with the stones.
A lot of villagers were hired here and worked enthusiastically. Others, seeing this, asked curiously what was going on.
Only after asking did I learn that this land would be used by Yun Jin for setting up her stall. She had signed a ten-year lease, and the right to use it for those ten years was hers. Everyone in the village who had a say in the matter knew about this.
They've even hired villagers to do the work. They're happy because they've earned money, and they don't mind if Yun Jin uses their land.
In just one afternoon, the open space was transformed into a romantic and bourgeois barbecue stall. Gao's wife and Li Aimei couldn't believe that it had been set up right under their noses.
They stared in disbelief, utterly amazed, their eyes filled with excitement as they looked at Yun Jin, wishing they could hug her.
They did just that.
Sister-in-law Gao cradled Yun Jin's little head: "What were you thinking? Your brain is too sharp!"
"This stall is so beautiful now, I want to live here!" Li Aimei exclaimed.
Yun Jin smiled smugly: "Now you know how pretty you are, right?"
The two nodded: "Beautiful, beautiful, so beautiful!"
Are you satisfied?
"Satisfied, very satisfied!"
Looking at the two people who were particularly captivated by her charm, and the little rice cake nodding along, Yun Jin felt incredibly proud and accomplished. She smiled and said, "Grand opening tonight! Everything is 20% off! Don't miss out!"
The villager, who had happily received his wages for the day but hadn't left yet, asked, "What 20% discount?"
"Having a late-night snack is 20% off. Guys, want to stay for a drink? If you do, I'll give you a 50% discount." Yun Jin invited warmly, making sure no one could take the money away.
The guys, who hadn't even had their money yet, heard about the 50% discount—meaning half price on barbecue—and wanted to know what barbecue was. They all planned to bring their wives and kids to have a meal, broaden their horizons, and see what it was all about.
When He Tingchuan and Li Aiguo delivered the chairs and benches that Yun Jin and the others needed, they almost didn't recognize them. They had promised to set up a stall in the open space!
They thought the beautiful place in front of them, which resembled a resort, was lovely, even the foxtail grass tied to the fence looked good.
He Tingchuan looked at Yun Jin, who was smiling and waving, her eyes sparkling and radiant. His heart pounded wildly for her every time he saw her.
He Tingchuan was deeply moved again.
Little Niangao ran over and hugged He Tingchuan's leg: "Daddy, why did you take so long? There are so many customers in the shop. We're going to get rich, we're going to get rich big time!"
The last few words were whispered to He Tingchuan by Xiao Niangao.
He Tingchuan: "..."
Great! My daughter knows what it means to get rich at such a young age. It's true that the word "getting used to it" doesn't come from nowhere.
There are two money-grubbers in his family.
A big spender had a little spender.
"Daddy Rice Cake, you've worked so hard. I'll roast a big chicken leg for you later!" Yun Jin greeted him with a fawning smile, showering him with sweet words that made He Tingchuan feel so sweet that he became her slave, lighting the stove, setting the table, and arranging the stools according to her requests.
After he finished his work, Yun Jin wrung out her handkerchief and handed it to him to wipe his sweat, which drew the attention of many people who secretly admired the good relationship between the couple.
Those who thought Yun Jin was still unmarried, seeing that she was not only married but also had a military officer husband, couldn't show their ulterior motives.
That makes sense. How could such a beautiful, young, and capable woman not be married?
They're overthinking it.
Li Aimei had already set up the stove to grill fish and meat, and Li Aiguo was helping her grill as well.
There are many people today, so we prepared two barbecue grills, and the other one is a spare.
He Tingchuan had already started stir-frying crayfish. Watching the crayfish, which they didn't like, being put into the pot, with the rich oil and hot pot broth, they were almost overwhelmed by the aroma.
The noodles are placed at the bottom, topped with crayfish, and then a spoonful of broth is added. The taste is absolutely amazing.
As soon as the lobster noodles were served, the villagers and residents from nearby residential compounds came out to find food and, without saying a word, picked up their chopsticks and started eating.
Sister-in-law Gao's fried noodles, fried rice noodles, and fried rice also began to be served one after another.
Yun Jin placed a flurry of orders and grilled the food with great enthusiasm. They selected a bamboo basket full of what they wanted to eat and waited for Li Aimei and her brother Li Aiguo to grill it.
From the start of setting up the stall until 10 p.m., I can finally take a break.
